Abstract
The present invention is related to the mining industry, particularly to an electrocatalyst for producing an oxidizing agent by the partial oxidation of sulfur compounds, such as formamidine disulfide (DSFA) from thiourea (Tu). The advantage of the process and the material of the present invention over state-of-the-art processes and materials is that the inventive process and method effectively performs a partial oxidation of the sulfur compounds avoiding parasite reactions such as subsequent oxidations, as well as oxygen evolution. The present invention structurally consists in a bimetallic electrocatalyst having a molar ratio, over the support surface, of from about (0.08-1 Pt : (0.012-0.016) Pb; the preparation method thereof consists in using the sol gel technique along with a polymeric precursor.
