Good HR helps you perform better. It helps you see your potential. It helps you become a better leader. Good HR uncovers gaps alongside you. And offers brainstorms and co-created solutions so that you can achieve your goals. Good HR is a human enabler. But unfortunately there is so much bad HR out there, we don't always have the best rep. I love the shift I am seeing though. The shift that has been here for a little while now. Towards people-centered organizations. Where humans are seen as the most valuable asset. Where HR is there to enable those humans to do their best work. We need more of that! #hr #leadership #thoughts

💬 Not every important HR conversation starts with a problem. And not every meaningful HR intervention ends with a solution.💡 In my journey as an HRBP, I’ve come to realise that some of the most impactful moments happen in conversations that never make it to a dashboard, tracker or HR report. 🤝 An employee who walks in simply wanting to be heard. 🌱 Someone who is unsure about their career and needs perspective, not a prescription. 💭 A high performer who has aspirations but hasn’t found the right platform to express them. ❤️ Someone going through a difficult phase, yet continuing to give their best at work. 🚪 And sometimes, an employee who has decided to move on — but still wants to know that their journey and contribution were valued. These conversations have reinforced one belief for me: “HRBP is not just about being the bridge between business and people. It is about being the bridge between a person’s concerns and the organisation’s understanding.” As HRBPs, we work with data, metrics, performance cycles, talent reviews, retention, workforce planning and business priorities. 📊 But behind every metric is a person.👨‍🦰 Behind every resignation is a story.📖 Behind every performance concern is a context.🔍 Behind every career aspiration is a dream.💭 And behind every employee conversation is an opportunity to build trust.🤝 Sometimes, the best HR intervention isn’t a policy or a process. It is simply sitting across the table and saying: “I hear you.” 👂 “I understand.”🧠 “Let’s look at this together.”🫂 Because employees may not remember every HR process we followed… But they will remember how we made them feel when they needed us the most. ❤️ That, for me, is the essence of being an HRBP — balancing business priorities with human realities. "What if the biggest talent pool in your organisation is the one you already employ?" That was one of the key topics we explored in the latest In Goede Banen podcast from Randstad, where I joined host Rick van der Westen and behavioural scientist Oscar van Mourik, PhD to discuss the growing importance of skill-based management. In a world shaped by AI, rapid technological change and shifting business needs, job titles tell us less and less about the value people can create. That's why at Danone we're shifting from managing jobs to managing skills. The real question is no longer: "What role does someone have?" But rather: "What skills do they have, what can they learn, and where could they grow next?" For us, becoming a skill-based organisation is not an HR trend. It's about unlocking hidden talent, increasing internal mobility, making learning more targeted, and building a workforce that can adapt as fast as the world around us. Because one of the biggest talent pools in any organisation is often the one it already has. BacktoBasics | Rethinking Talent Decisions in Modern Organizations It’s interesting — and alarming — to see leading organizations lay off strong performers, struggle to retain real talent, and and then weaken those key positions by bringing in clearly less competent hires. All this while being guided by highly paid leadership teams from top global universities who are responsible for shaping strategy. If this isn’t a glaring contradiction in our corporate ecosystem, what is? During the interviews for a strategic Talent Acquisition and Development role, it was surprising — though not entirely unexpected — to see the conversation reduced to hiring numbers and monthly/annual targets. The same old-school questions, the same transactional mindset. Ultimately, it felt like Interviewer-sahab will hire whoever they’re in the mood for today. No discussion about the psychological shifts shaping today’s workforce. No honest conversation about the organization’s own gaps or challenges. Just polished narratives and rosy presentations — while expecting the candidate to magically design a “foolproof” strategy for both current and future problems. We truly are navigating a world layered with facades. where self-proclaimed ‘leaders’ seem to lose their composure at the very idea of true leadership.
