From Classroom to Career-Ready: 40 Young Trainees Begin Their Work-Based Learning Journey Over a month into their five-month Dual Work-Based Learning (Dual WBL) journey, 40 young trainees from Preah Kossomak Polytechnic Institute (PPI) and Industrial Technical Institute (ITI) have transitioned from classroom theory to hands-on practice across partner enterprises under the guidance of industry mentors. Before stepping onto the workshop floors of 7 partner companies, trainees completed foundational modules in workplace safety, digital literacy, professional communication, English, and other essential skills—all part of a curriculum co-designed by companies and TVET institutions and validated by the national standards authority. Supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), endorsed by The ASEAN Secretariat, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Helvetas, the ASEAN-Swiss TVET Initiative (ASTI), supports the integration of dual Work-Based Learning into national TVET systems.  For employers, WBL means more than hosting trainees. It helps build a stronger pipeline of skilled workers while supporting productivity, workforce readiness, and longer-term business growth. For trainees like Manor, WBL turns classroom learning into practical skills, recognized qualifications, and real career opportunities, while helping young people like him across Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar build the skills needed to shape the future of work. 📸 A memorable day at the 5th Annual Gender Platform! Stakeholders from the public sector, private sector, and civil society came together to engage in meaningful dialogue on advancing gender equality and creating safe working environments in Cambodia’s garment, footwear, and travel goods sector. Held on 22 September 2026, this event was honourably opened by H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs and closed by H.E. SOVANN Vannaroth, Acting Minister of Labour and Vocational Training. It featured insightful discussions, a keynote speech by H.E. SOUS Sinoun of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, various presentations by key experts, and collaborative breakout sessions focusing on critical topics such as gender-based violence, women's empowerment, and the importance of skills development as Cambodia approaches its Least Developed Country (LDC) graduation. From producing to processing: What Cambodia can learn from West Africa’s cashew success West Africa, particularly Côte d'Ivoire, has shown how a country can build on its strength in cashew production to develop a stronger processing industry, attract investment and create more value at home. Cambodia has a similar opportunity. As one of the world’s largest producers of raw cashew nuts, the country is looking to strengthen domestic processing and capture more value from its growing cashew sector. Last week, the Cambodian delegation, together with representatives of the EU-German CAPSAFE project, started its visit to Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire to see how policies, investment, technology and partnerships have contributed to the development of West Africa’s cashew industry and to explore what lessons could be relevant for Cambodia. Key highlights of the visit include: 🔹 Visiting cashew processing facilities to see value addition in practice 🔹 Exploring innovation and technology at the Cashew Innovation and Technology Center 🔹 Visiting local cooperatives and seeing how different actors connect across the value chain 🔹 Engaging with government and industry on policies, sector regulation, investment attraction and sector transformation 🔹 Connecting with the wider global cashew industry at the African Cashew Alliance Conference The visit is supported by the EU and Germany through the EU-German CAPSAFE project, implemented by GIZ Cambodia. Strengthening Responsible Sourcing in Cambodia! The Responsible Sourcing Hub Cambodia (RSH) project, together with Fuchs Gruppe (DF World of Spices SE) and ofi (via Märsch Importhandels GmbH), facilitated Provincial Kick-Off Workshops in Tboung Khmum and Kampong Thom provinces on the 16th and 18th September 2026. The aim of this public-private partnership is to support smallholder cashew and pepper farmers in applying climate-resilient production, post-harvest practices, and traceability. Over 140 participants came together over the course of 2 days to discuss key areas of cooperation to improve compliance with and access to high-quality and international markets. A key focus of the workshop is to introduce RSH Cambodia to the targeted Agricultural Cooperatives (ACs), Commune Agricultural Officers (CAOs), farmers, Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forests and Fisheries (PDAFF), and other relevant stakeholders. Together, participants built a shared understanding of the project, its planned activities, and the roles of relevant actors involved. The Responsible Sourcing Hub Cambodia (RSH) is a public-private partnership between Fuchs Gruppe (DF World of Spices SE), Märsch Importhandels GmbH, whose activities in Cambodia are implemented locally by ofi (Olam Food Ingredients), and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.The project is part of the develoPPP programme, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
