Constant disruption and consumer and global demands for sustainability are forcing a new perspective on supply chains. Consider this an innovative form of reverse engineering: moving away from managing costs and focusing on responding to demand. Activated by “demand signals”, response networks are consumer-, not product-, centric. More simply, my team and I create demand response networks that drive sustainable impact.

Together with Mukesh Kapadia, CIO of Coca-Cola SIMA Bottler, we explored how AI-enabled commercial technologies are unlocking new dimensions of growth and profitability in the B2B landscape. This conversation was made even more impactful by the presence of the ASP OU Digital Technology team, led by Natalie Jantjies, and the ASP OU CCL team, led by Tadeo Jose Pineda Molina — two teams at the forefront of digital transformation in Asia Pacific (ASP) region. It's not a surprise that our Accenture research shows 77% of US shoppers say they plan to use it for assistance in Holiday Shopping. This shopper behavior also requires Retail companies to respond: 1. Simplify. Simplify shopping journeys by cutting the noise. Use gen AI and curated content to the extent possible to guide shoppers to the right choice, faster. 2. Recommend. Build gen AI as a shopper’s friend in this era of recommendations to enable a successful omnichannel experience. Use of AI in retail needs to be more human, inspire trust and mirror the brand’s tone. 3. Connect. Strengthen human connections by empowering store staff with advanced tools where possible and providing the training they need to use those tools confidently. Coolers run on diesel generators. Collection runs on slow bicycles or petrol motorcycles. When fuel prices climb, farmers get paid less, transport costs rise on the way in and the way out, and cooling gets more expensive too. One number moves and the whole chain feels it. Last week, Karaa Africa visited Kanyabihara Dairy Farmers in Kiruhura, Western Uganda. Their cooler runs off a mini-grid FRES Solar built there, solar power, no fuel bill swinging with the market. We placed an e-bike there too. A week in, it's already carrying almost 20% of their daily collection, electric instead of petrol. Fuel-dependent transport is a fragile link in a chain that's already thin on margin. Solar plus e-bikes takes that link out entirely.

🌐 The Foundation Paradox: Reframing the AI Race for ASEAN’s Sustainable Future ☘️ The "AI Race" is frequently presented as a zero-sum geopolitical struggle at this crucial moment for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). However, the real potential of AI resides not in "supremacy" but in "Foundational Resilience" for an area where 99% of businesses are Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and climate-related economic losses are skyrocketing. This paper makes the case that integrating AI workflows with sustainable practices has a special benefit for ASEAN countries, serving as a buffer against environmental volatility and a multiplier for productivity in resource-constrained contexts. ASEAN may turn technological advancement from a disruptor into an equaliser by emphasising existential necessities like electricity, water, and social cohesiveness in addition to "soft" AI governance. This commentary explains why improving regional infrastructure and the social contract is necessary for a $2 trillion digital economy by 2030, using frameworks such as the "Hierarchy of Engagement with AI" (HE-AI) and Amartya Sen's Capability Approach.
