Japan Remotely helps people move to Japan while keeping their existing remote income. We specialize in the paths most relocation guides skip: the ones that let you immigrate to Japan while staying employed by a company abroad, often through an EOR in Japan (employer of record), or by structuring your situation so the income you already have keeps flowing once you arrive. Most guides to working in Japan assume you need a local job or that you have to start a company from scratch. For remote professionals, that advice misses the point. Our focus is helping you build a real life in Japan without giving up the career and income you already have. We work across the full range of Japan immigration questions: which Japan visa fits your situation, how the Highly Skilled Professional and Business Manager routes compare, how to think about tax residency, and how EOR arrangements let you live in Japan while working for an overseas employer. Whatever your starting point, we help you find a realistic path. Our founder, Nick Woolsey, is an American in Fukuoka City with more than 20 years of experience living in Japan and JLPT N1 Japanese fluency, so the guidance is grounded in how Japan immigration actually works, not generic checklists. We work in tiered consulting bundles, so you pay for the depth your situation needs. If you want to make the move to Japan and build the life in Japan you actually want, without rebuilding your career from zero, that's what we help you do.

Working with Nick at Japan Remotely was a great experience. Nick worked with us one on one to identify a personalized approach to securing our path into Japan. At the end of our journey, Nick provided us with an Action Plan that helped us map out our steps. Working with Nick was a great experience!
My experience with Japan Remotely has been overwhelmingly positive. Nick is very detailed in his approach and easy to work with. I had originally thought through my 'best approach', which likely would not have worked out well in the long run. Nick provided great perspective and has great lateral thinking skills which provided more options with a likely higher success rate than my narrow approach. At the end of the day Nick is looking for the best fit situation, not just the path of least resistance which I think is invaluable to making a significant move like uprooting and migrating internationally. He provided excellent support both before and after the move that was significantly helpful. I can't recommend Nick and the Japan Remotely team enough!
Japan Remotely delivered outstanding support for my planned August 2026 relocation to Tokyo with my 25-year-old son for the GLOBIS University MBA program. Their expert guidance on HSP visas, financial planning, lifestyle adjustments, and integration tips was clear, practical, and highly detailed. As a retired IT leader transitioning to Japan, I appreciated the realistic advice on job opportunities post-MBA and preparation resources. Professional, responsive team. Highly recommend for anyone moving to Japan remotely or for studies.
Nick was great to work with. He had a very complete approach for looking at moving to Japan. Ultimately we took his advise on location that fits our lifestyle in Japan. I must say I could not have picked a better location without him. I had actually previously lived in Japan for 15 years and it was still refreshing to work through a fulltime transition moving to Japan in a completely new area. Purchased our home without ever visiting our prefecture but I am so happy with the results.
It's not only suggestions and a plan on your move to Japan. they provide an array of resources that might help get established.
Nick provides a unique, highly personalised experience, helping me navigate the visa pathways to enter Japan on the best visa for my purposes. His expertise in the field of Japanese immigration, through all of its evolving complexity, comes from his own personal experience with the country. Japan Remotely has a structured, easy to understand system, tailored to each individual's situation. I have found working with Japan Remotely incredibly beneficial and highly rewarding. I could never have done this without Nick alongside, every step of the way. Easily my best decision in moving into my future.
