About the Jam:

Hey there! Do you have a Touhou story idea that's been rolling around in your head for a while, but a knife-throwing maid keeps stopping time before you can write/execute it? Or maybe you already have a draft/prototype going, but you've put it on pause and it's been lost to the void of an interdimensional backdoor since? Or perhaps you've just stumbled upon this jam, and would like to take it as a chance to brainstorm a sensational Touhou story, befitting that of Bunbunmaru Newspaper? Whatever the case may be, this jam is for you!

Here, you will have a two-week submission period to create/continue and submit a Touhou story/fanfic in any medium; whether it be in the form of a word fic, slideshow, video, fangame, etc... the (starry) sky's the limit! What's your Gensokyo tale to tell?

Possible Mediums:

To give you an idea of what form your Touhou story could take, here are a few examples/recommendations:

  • An AO3 fic or word document
  • A series of images/comics
  • A presentation slideshow
  • An MP4/Youtube video
  • A zine PDF
  • A piece of interactive fiction (using engines like Twine)
  • A visual novel (using engines like Ren'py)
  • An RPG (using engines like RPGMaker MV)
  • A webpage/website (using a website builder, web framework, or just plain HTML/CSS/JS)
  • An ARG
  • Physical media (e.g scrapbooking, clay sculptures, etc) (Be sure to scan/photograph/record it in a way that the content is visible!)

Of course, this list is not inclusive of every medium; if you have a medium not listed here that you would like to use to tell your story, go ahead!

RULES:

  1. Your entry must be uploadable to itch.io, whether it be through a downloadable file, a link/embed on the project page itself, etc. It must also be free to access in its entirety.
  2. Your entry must be largely based on Touhou.
  3. Follow ZUN's guidelines in regards to creating derivative Touhou fanworks (Guidelines).
  4. No hateful/bigoted/NSFW content is permitted in your entry.
  5. List any content/trigger warnings for your entry at the top of the project page.
  6. Taking/modifying assets from other sources to use in your entry is allowed; so long as you have the proper permissions/licenses to do so.
  7. The use of generative AI (including in third-party assets) in your entry is prohibited.
  8. Most importantly, ensure that this event is fun, friendly, and safe for everyone – participants and audience included.

FAQ:

  • Does this jam rank entries/have a voting period?
    • Nope! All entries will not be ranked, and there will be no voting period. This jam is just to motivate people to start working on/finish their Touhou stories, so if you manage to submit an entry, that's already a huge win!
  • Can I submit an incomplete/work-in-progress entry?
    • Yes! Even if in an incomplete/WIP state, your entry can still be submitted to the jam for people to read/experience. Who knows – you may get some valuable feedback that can help you polish it up! In general, you can consider your entry your prize for working on it.
  • Do we have to work solo or in teams?
    • You can choose to either work solo or in a team for your entry! Joining multiple teams for the jam is also allowed, but please do not overwhelm yourself while you're at it.
  • How do we form teams?
    • You may choose to either create a post in the Community tab requesting for team members/a team, or you can form teams through external platforms (e.g an outside group of friends, an unaffiliated Discord server, etc).
  • Can a single person submit multiple entries?
    • Yes! But again, like the previous answer, please don't overwhelm yourself.
  • Are PC-98 characters/locations allowed?
    • Yes!
  • Are OCs allowed?
    • Yes! However, please still prominently feature the setting of Gensokyo and/or the canon characters of Touhou in your entry. OCs may be the focus of your story or be used as background presences.

How to Submit:

To submit an entry, just follow these steps:

  1. If you don't have one yet, create an itch.io account. Ensure that you are logged in for the subsequent steps.
  2. Click the big 'Join jam' button at the top of the jam page. You can do this anytime before or during the submission period.
  3. During the submission period, create a project page for your entry. Ensure that you add all necessary downloadable files, descriptions, links/embeds, etc to it. Once that's done, make sure that the project page is Published/public.
  4. Once your project page is ready to be submitted, click the 'Submit your project' button at the top of the jam page. You will be guided through the submission process, where you can then select the project page you want to submit as an entry.
  5. Voila! You have successfully submitted an entry. Repeat steps 3 onward for any subsequent entries.

Also, after the submission period, be sure to check out the other entries that people have submitted! You can also leave a comment on some of them if you're so inclined.

Enquiries/Teambuilding:

For further jam enquiries or teambuilding, do direct them to the Community tab. For jam enquiries, the organiser will get back to you ASAP.
