Interfuse is a web development and information technology company founded by Nick Niesen in 2008 in Middleton, Wisconsin. The original Interfuse project consisted of several divisions, including Interfuse Mobile, Interfuse Motors and Interfuse, which represented products sold through various online marketplaces. As these projects expanded, Interfuse LLC was established to manage the company's growing collection of online properties and technology.
History of Interfuse
During its early years, Interfuse transitioned from operating online retail projects into web development. The company designed and developed numerous websites and custom web applications, with one of its most significant projects becoming Madison Liquidators.
Interfuse developed much of the technology behind the Madison Liquidators ecommerce platform as the business expanded from a local office furniture dealership into a nationwide online retailer. The project provided a practical environment for developing and refining ecommerce, search, database, content management, advertising and other web technologies.
As development requirements for Madison Liquidators became more established, attention returned to the original Interfuse project. The acquisition of the interfuse.com domain provided a permanent home for the next generation of Interfuse and became the foundation for developing a broader collection of interconnected information services.
Interfuse.com
Interfuse.com is designed as an expandable information platform where people can search for information, explore related subjects and contribute knowledge. Rather than functioning as a single-purpose website, Interfuse consists of multiple services that can operate independently while also sharing information and functionality across the platform.
Users can create free accounts and contribute information to areas of Interfuse that support user participation. The platform is designed to continually expand as additional topics, images, references, relationships and other forms of structured information are added.
Interfuse Knowledge Base
The Interfuse Knowledge Base is an open information resource designed to organize information about virtually any subject. Topics are arranged hierarchically, allowing broad subjects to contain increasingly specific sub-topics while related articles connect subjects at similar levels of the hierarchy.
Registered users can contribute new topics or suggest modifications to existing information. Articles can contain references to external sources, images and other supporting information. Changes can be reviewed and tracked so that the Knowledge Base can continue to expand without discarding the history of previous contributions.
Interfuse Image Library
The Interfuse Image Library provides a dedicated system for publishing and organizing images. Each image can have its own title, description, summary, supporting page content and source information, creating an individual information page rather than treating an image simply as a file.
The Image Library operates as an independent Interfuse service but is also integrated with the Knowledge Base. Images can be attached to Knowledge Base topics as header images, collected into article galleries or inserted directly into article content. This allows visual information stored within Interfuse to be reused throughout related areas of the platform.
Search and Information Discovery
Interfuse provides search functionality to help users find information within the Interfuse Knowledge Base. Users can search for topics directly or discover information by navigating through the Knowledge Base hierarchy, including categories, related articles and sub-topics.
As the Knowledge Base grows, these relationships help connect broad subjects with increasingly specific information and provide multiple paths for discovering content throughout Interfuse.
The Interfuse Project
The broader Interfuse Project is an ongoing effort to build interconnected web applications around information, search, publishing and online services. Individual applications are designed to provide useful functionality on their own while sharing a common platform that allows information and services to work together.
Interfuse continues to develop new tools and expand its existing services with the long-term objective of creating a large, interconnected information platform capable of growing across subjects, data types and applications.
