The Interfuse Image Library is a web-based service designed to upload, organize, describe, and publish images. Each uploaded image receives its own page within Interfuse where information about the image, its subject, source, and related content can be documented.
The Image Library operates as an independent Interfuse service but can also be used in conjunction with the Interfuse Knowledge Base. Images stored in the library can be associated with Knowledge Base articles, used as article header images, displayed within article galleries, or inserted directly into article content.
Uploading an Image
To contribute an image to the Image Library, a user must first log in to their Interfuse account. Once logged in, the user can select Upload Image and provide information describing the image and its contents.
Image submissions can include the following information:
- Title – The primary title used to identify the image and its page.
- Meta-Description – A description of the image page intended to summarize its contents for search engines and other applications.
- Summary – A plain-text description of up to 520 characters. The summary is displayed above the image on its published page.
- Page-Content – Additional information about the image or its subject. This field supports both plain text and HTML and is displayed below the image.
- Source – The name of the original source, photographer, organization, publication, or other party that should receive credit for the image when applicable.
- Source URL – A URL pointing to the original source or attribution location when applicable.
Image Pages
Each published image receives its own page within the Interfuse Image Library. The page provides a permanent location where the image can be viewed along with the information supplied by its contributor.
The image Summary appears above the image, providing visitors with a concise explanation of what they are viewing. Page-Content appears below the image and can be used to provide a more detailed description, background information, context, or other information relevant to the image.
When source information has been provided, attribution can also be displayed with the image. This makes it possible to preserve information about where an image originated while maintaining a dedicated Interfuse page for the image and its associated information.
Using Images with the Knowledge Base
The Image Library is integrated with the Interfuse Knowledge Base, allowing uploaded images to become visual resources for related topics.
Each Image Library page has a unique indicator slug within its URL. For example:
/image/internet-browser-web-address/
The indicator internet-browser-web-address can be used to associate that image with Knowledge Base content.
Images can be used within Knowledge Base articles in several ways:
- Header Image – An Image Library image can be assigned as the primary image displayed near the top of a Knowledge Base article.
- Gallery – Multiple Image Library images can be associated with an article through its Gallery field. These images are displayed as thumbnails in the article footer.
- Article Content – Images can also be inserted directly into Knowledge Base article content using standard HTML
This integration allows images to be managed independently while also being reused throughout the Knowledge Base. A single image can therefore maintain its own descriptive page while providing visual context to related informational articles.
Describing Images
Image Library submissions should contain enough information to explain what is visible in an image and why it may be relevant. Titles and summaries should identify the primary subject clearly, while Page-Content can provide additional context that would not fit within the shorter Summary field.
For photographs, illustrations, diagrams, screenshots, and other visual material obtained from an outside source, contributors should provide appropriate source information when available. Source and Source URL fields allow this information to remain associated with the image.
Building a Connected Image Collection
As the Image Library grows, it creates a collection of visual information that can be discovered independently or alongside related Knowledge Base topics. Images can document objects, places, concepts, technologies, people, processes, and other subjects that benefit from visual representation.
By separating image management from article management, Interfuse can maintain detailed information about individual images while allowing those images to be used wherever they provide useful context. Together, the Image Library and Knowledge Base combine visual and written information into a more interconnected collection of resources.
