Security and Investigations

AI powered, personalised travel risk management application where cutting edge technology meets a commitment to safety

About us

Kowroo is closing the gap between how safe people feel and how safe they actually are. In a world where over 80% of safety incidents go unreported, Kowroo bridges the disconnect with real-time, personalised risk awareness—powered by AI, data intelligence, and crowdsourced insight. The data exists. The intelligence exists. What’s been missing is the technology to connect them. Kowroo is that missing layer. Built for business travel, but with a vision far beyond it, Kowroo delivers dynamic, location-specific safety insights tailored to each user’s profile, context, and surroundings. It empowers travellers to make smarter decisions and enables companies to meet their duty of care with up-to-date, actionable risk information. As more users engage, Kowroo is creating the first true map of real-world safety insights and perceptions—offering not just a view of where people are at risk, but how they feel about their environments. With a unique data model combining behavioural, contextual, and crowd-sourced inputs, Kowroo has the potential to enrich global navigation platforms like Google Maps and Apple Maps—bringing emotional and situational awareness to the digital world. Travel is just the beginning. Safety, at scale, is the goal. Kowroo is an Enterprise Ireland supported Commercialisation Fund project at Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics, Dublin City University.

  • The shift from Travel Risk Management #TRM to People Risk Management is no longer just a theoretical conversation. A growing number of security professionals are asking what it looks like in practice. But there’s a difference between believing the model needs to change and being willing to put your organisation, or your own credibility, behind something new. We understand that dilemma. The leaders shaping what comes next aren’t taking reckless bets. They’re finding sensible ways to test a better approach. That’s why we designed the 30-Day People Risk Design Partner Programme differently. It isn’t about making a big technology bet. It’s about giving forward-looking security teams a controlled way to explore what #PRM could look like using their own use cases, with no major implementation and no commitment to buy. Because the answer to the risk of doing something different isn’t to do nothing. It’s to find a responsible way to test it. Is it just me, or are we seeing more and more posts about the need to move from Travel Risk Management to People Risk Management? I agree with the direction. But there is one thing I keep noticing. There is a lot of discussion about what needs to change, and far fewer practical options for organisations that want to start changing it today. We often say that change takes time. That is true. But people have been talking about this shift for years. So perhaps the problem is not that security leaders need more convincing. Perhaps the problem is that trying something new still feels too risky. Building a new approach internally takes time, people, and budget. Buying unproven technology can mean putting your own credibility on the line. And established providers aren't always in a rush to rethink the systems their businesses were built around. So organisations stay with what they know, even when they know it is not giving them a true picture of people risk. There is a certain irony in all this. We work in risk, but the route to testing a better approach can feel unnecessarily risky. That is something we want to change. We are opening the next phase of Kowroo’s 30-Day People Risk Design Partner Programme. It is a practical way for organisations to explore a different approach using their own use cases, without a major implementation or a commitment to buy. Kowroo turns real-time threat intelligence into personalised, coordinated action, connecting what matters with who matters, cutting through the noise, and getting the right support to the right people at the right time. We are inviting organisations to work alongside us, test the approach, and help shape what comes next. Interested in exploring whether it could be relevant to your organisation or know someone who might be interested? • Most travel safety tools rely on macro-level data: "Spain is low risk." But real-world risk isn't static, and it certainly isn't uniform across an entire country. Real travel risk intelligence must be: Hyper-local - Distinguishing between a city centre event, neighbourhood petty crime, and rural environmental hazards. Dynamic - Updating in real time as conditions change throughout the day. Personalised - Delivering context that matters to the specific traveller and their surroundings. On a recent trip from Barcelona to Costa Brava, Kowroo proved what context-driven safety looks like in practice, shifting seamlessly from urban crowd and crime awareness to rural wildfire precautions. Shape the Future of Travel Risk Intelligence with Us We are currently onboarding a select group of forward-thinking travel managers, security directors, and HR leaders into our Design Partner Program. As a Kowroo Design Partner, you’ll get: Early access to our platform and real-time risk engine. Direct input into features tailored to your team's Duty of Care requirements. Dedicated support and custom integration options. Interested in elevating your organisation’s travel risk management? Send us a message or email us directly to discuss design partnership opportunities. #TravelRiskManagement #DutyOfCare #CorporateTravel #PeopleRiskManagment #Kowroo #DesignPartnership

I was in Spain this weekend, and put Kowroo to the test. Spain is low risk for many, but that is not a guarantee. Having reviewed my personal characteristics, Kowroo determined my risk level was in fact, low. But its advice and support did not stop there. In Barcelona, both the city and my overall risk were rated "Low". But Kowroo went beyond this generic rating, looking at me and the context around me. It flagged hyper-local opportunistic theft in specific areas I was in and notified me about likely crowd disruptions from an upcoming Pride Parade. Additionally, the advice changed a few hours later, based on an incident occurring that day and my exact location in Barcelona. Like me on my travels, my risk exposure did not remain static. After a short drive to Costa Brava, my overall risk was still deemed to be "Low", but the priority completely shifted. Kowroo alerted me to recent nearby wildfire activity, reminding me to monitor local road closures and keep an eye on evacuation routes. Same country. Same traveller. Same risk level. Completely different advice based on very different relevance. Real-world safety isn't binary or static. It's dynamic, micro-located, and personal. • "Data should inform our decisions. It should never become the decision." In her latest thought leadership piece, our CEO Sheelagh Brady challenges a massive corporate pain point: using risk ratings as a shield to avoid making hard leadership calls. Security shouldn't be the "Department of No." Its real job is to: Translate risk appetite into practical controls. Help leaders understand the consequences of their choices. Ensure business objectives are met responsibly. At Kowroo, this philosophy is baked into everything we do. Read Sheelagh Brady full post below.

Too often, security professionals talk to security professionals, while business leaders talk to business leaders. We stay within our respective circles, even though the decisions themselves sit across leadership, operations, HR, legal, finance, and the board. If we want to change how organisations navigate volatile environments, we need to bridge that gap. So, I would especially value perspectives from outside the security echo chamber: Does this reflect how your organisation makes decisions about risk and opportunity? What do business leaders actually need from security to help them move forward responsibly? And to those in my network: I would be grateful if you consider sharing this with a CEO, CFO, or senior leader who helps decide what the organisation is trying to achieve, and what risk it is prepared to accept in getting there. I would genuinely value hearing what they challenge, question, or see differently. #PeopleRiskManagement #TravelRiskManagement #RiskGovernance #SecurityLeadership #Kowroo

  • As the World Cup moves into its final stages, the travel risk picture does not disappear. It concentrates. Fewer matches. Higher stakes. Bigger crowds around key fixtures. More emotion. More last-minute movement. More pressure on transport, accommodation, tickets and hospitality. For organisations with employees, executives or clients on the ground, this is exactly when Duty of Care becomes harder, not easier. Mega-events do not just create more risk. They create more noise. Alerts, headlines, road closures, fan gatherings, protests, scams, transport disruption, security restrictions, all happening at different speeds, in different places, with different levels of relevance to different people. A city can look “normal” at one level, while risk is shifting underneath. During the final stages of a mega-event, attention and resources often concentrate around the main event footprint: stadiums, fan zones, VIP routes, transport hubs and official hospitality areas. That concentration is necessary. But it can also make the wider risk picture more uneven. Neighbourhoods outside the official security perimeter may have reduced visibility. Transport networks may be stretched. Hotels, restaurants, taxis, airports and entertainment districts may all be dealing with higher demand, more movement and less margin for disruption. For corporate travellers, this matters because they are rarely only moving between the hotel and the stadium. They are attending client dinners, taking taxis, changing plans, moving late at night, working around road closures and making decisions in unfamiliar environments. The challenge is not simply knowing that something has happened in a host city. It is knowing whether it matters to a specific person, in a specific location, at a specific time, and being able to communicate with them quickly if conditions change. That is where static travel alerts can fall short. They can tell you that a city is affected. They do not always tell you whether your people are affected. That is the problem Kowroo is built to help solve. Kowroo turns fragmented risk information into personalised, localised guidance, helping organisations understand what matters to their people when travel environments become more complex. Because in a mega-event, the value is not more information. It is relevance. #WorldCup2026 #DutyOfCare #TravelRiskManagement #PeopleRiskManagement #CorporateSecurity #Kowroo

  • Really grateful to Jack Parnell for such kind words. His support and feedback during Kowroo’s beta phase have meant a great deal to us. We still have a lot to do, but encouragement like this reminds us why we started. If you’d like to learn more about what we’re building, we’d be very happy to have a conversation.

One of the things I keep coming back to as we build Kowroo is this: Duty of care cannot treat everyone the same. Two people can face what looks like the same risk and experience it very differently. Yet too often, we blame the person for how they respond, instead of asking whether the system understood them in the first place. For me, this is where people risk management (#PRM) needs to change. It has to become more individualised, but still delivered at scale. That is the line in the sand for us at Kowroo. As we take a step closer to launch, we’d love to speak with organisations who know there is a better way to deliver duty of care, and want to help shape it. Lets rethink risk management together. #DutyOfCare #PeopleRiskManagement #TravelRiskManagement #CorporateSecurity #Kowroo

In this post, our founder Sheelagh Brady reflects on one of the ideas at the heart of what we are building: Duty of care cannot treat everyone the same. As we move towards launch, we’re looking forward to working with organisations who know there is a better way to deliver for their people, and we are exciting to work alongside them to help shape it. #DutyOfCare #PeopleRiskManagement #TravelRiskManagement #CorporateSecurity #Kowroo

When we started building Kowroo, it came from a very simple realisation: location-led safety is a blind spot. Traditional risk management misses the human being, or, at the very least, often prioritises the needs of the security manager over the person travelling. For that and other reasons, we shifted the focus to People Risk Management (#PRM) in what we are building. The need for PRM is a long-term argument that has yet to fully gain traction, largely because there are vastly different requirements between buyers and users, and between the travellers themselves. But more significantly, two people can stand on the exact same street corner and experience totally different levels of vulnerability. And the question has often been: if we acknowledge this, how do we respond at scale? That is why I am incredibly proud of what we are building. We aren't just mapping locations; we are putting individuals at the heart of the safety equation. But we aren't proclaiming to have all the answers on day one. The best solutions, the ones that actually protect people, are built on real human insights. That's why we want to co-design the future of PRM. We want your feedback, experiences, and insights, especially from those who believe a people-first approach at scale isn't possible. Help us shape a tool that tackles the hard truths and truly meets actual needs, however competing they may seem. If you think this is exactly what the industry needs, or if you think we're crazy to try and scale it, I want to hear from you. #PeopleRiskManagement #DutyOfCare #CorporateSecurity #FutureOfWork #Kowroo

Risk does not start with a place. It starts with a person. For decades, organisations have built risk assessments around context: the country, the city, the journey, the incident, the threat environment. All of that matters. But it is not enough. Because two people can be in the same place, at the same time, facing the same external conditions, yet experience very different levels of risk, confidence, vulnerability, and need. That is where People Risk Management begins. It asks a different question. Not just: “What is happening there?” But: “What does this mean for this person?” And that shift pf perspective always mattered but was often ignored. Now we have no choice. Because the world of work has changed. People are no longer simply “in the office” or “on a trip”. They are moving between homes, offices, airports, hotels, client sites, events, cafés, and unfamiliar cities. Work now happens across locations, time zones, and contexts. That makes location-led risk management harder. But it also exposes something more fundamental: location was never the whole story. The real question is not only where someone is. It is who they are, what they are doing, what is happening around them, how exposed they are, and what support they may need in that moment. That is the shift from Travel Risk Management #TRM to People Risk Management #PRM At Kowroo, this is what we are building towards: personalised, people-centred safety intelligence that helps organisations understand risk from the perspective of the individual,  wherever work takes them.
