Citibank has been fined £4.7m for breaching UK sanctions on Russia. The UK's government authority for sanctions, OFSI, found that Citi's London branch processed 970 payments worth £19.7m in breach of UK sanctions on Russia. Most of it happened in the chaotic months after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, between February and November 2022. So, what went wrong - and what can other compliance teams learn from it?
