Flood resilience is becoming an increasingly important issue for households and communities across Ireland. Allianz Ireland welcomes the publication of Insurance Ireland’s Flood Taskforce report, Keeping Irish Homes Insurable, which brings forward a number of practical recommendations on how Ireland can respond to the growing challenge of flood risk. We would particularly like to thank John Ryan our Chief Underwriting Officer, for his leadership of the Flood Taskforce, and all those who contributed their expertise and perspectives to its work including Majella McDonnell, Jane Kidd, Justyna Banasik ACII, Katherine Weinegman, and Markus Aichinger. The report underlines the importance of taking a long-term, collaborative approach — one that brings together Government, industry and other stakeholders to strengthen resilience and support the continued availability of insurance for homes at risk of flooding. Today marks an important step forward in the conversation around flood resilience in Ireland, with the welcome publication of Insurance Ireland’s Flood Protection Gap Proposed Solution. We’re proud that our Chief Underwriting Officer John Ryan, who led the Insurance Ireland Flood Taskforce, and our Head of Quantitative Risk, Majella McDonnell played an important role in helping bring this work to fruition. The report sets out a practical framework for improving resilience and supporting a more sustainable pathway to insurance for households in areas at risk of flooding. We welcome the establishment of the Government’s Flood Insurance Protection Gap Working Group and look forward to continuing to work with Insurance Ireland, Minister Robert Troy, wider Government and other stakeholders to turn these proposals into meaningful action for homeowners and communities across Ireland.

Could flood risk become as familiar to homebuyers as a BER rating? New Allianz Ireland research, featured in The Irish Times, shows that 78% of people support the introduction of flood assessment certificates when homes are sold. It’s a simple idea with a bigger purpose: giving people clearer information about flood risk, helping homeowners understand what they can do to protect their properties, and recognising those who invest in making their homes more resilient. Insurance can help manage the consequences of flooding, but long-term resilience depends on reducing the underlying risk too. As climate risk grows, Ireland will need a stronger focus on adaptation, prevention and shared responsibility if we are to help keep homes protected and insurable for the long term. That means homeowners, insurers, Government, lenders and local authorities working together to reduce risk before flooding happens. We were incredibly proud to support a landmark moment for Irish athletics at last week's Morton Games. Congratulations to Orla Comerford on an outstanding performance, setting a new T13 European Record of 11.72 in the inaugural mixed-classification Para 100m race. It was a remarkable achievement and a moment that deserved to be seen on one of Ireland's biggest athletics stages. At Allianz Ireland, we believe inclusion is about creating opportunities, not separate moments. Working alongside the Morton Games team, we were delighted to support the introduction of a world-class Para 100m race as part of the main programme, recognising elite para athletes as exactly that: elite athletes. A huge thank you to the Morton Games organisers, and especially Meet Director Noel Guiden, for embracing the vision from the outset. We also want to acknowledge Sinéad Galvin for her passion and determination in helping make it happen. Most importantly, congratulations again to Orla. Yesterday, our Chief Financial Officer, Samantha Kearney, joined colleagues from across Ireland's financial services sector for the launch of Ireland's Women in Finance Charter Annual Report 2026. Launched by EU Commissioner Michael McGrath and Minister of State Robert Troy, the fourth annual report highlights the significant progress being made in improving female representation across Ireland's financial services sector, while recognising there is still more to do. At Allianz Ireland, we believe diverse teams make better decisions, better reflect the customers and communities we serve, and help build a stronger business. That's why we're proud to be one of the 104 signatories to Ireland's Women in Finance Charter and remain committed to improving female representation at every level of our organisation.
