Pretty disappointing.

Music recommendations are solid, but using the free version is frustrating. You're hit with 30 second ads every few tracks and skip limits. On top of that, basic functionality like crossfade and organizing your queue are locked behind a paywall, and the app feels buggy. (I personally recommend YouTube Music or for the same price use Apple Music)

Spotify got much worse.

4-5 Ads after 2-3 Songs, songs sometimes start seconds after the original beginning and sometimes a couple of seconds delay when song ends. Overall a really bad music app. This started only a couple of weeks/months ago tho.

Useless customer service

So many issues with their app. Cna you get help with those issues? No

They'll send exactly one email telling you to do something that you've already told them you've tried, and then ghost you. Absolutely useless customer service. It doesn't surprise me that their Trustpilot profile is under investigation for something they've done.

App sucks

App sucks. They play way more adds than your actual music. They put 3 commercials for every 1 song you want to listen. They just started doing this so people upgrade. It's ridiculous, this wasn't happening before. They keep pushing people to pay for app again. App is absolute garbage!!!!.

I have been using Spotify for years and the app itself is great, however the payment system is SHOCKING! If the payment fails, they notify you and if you correct it on your banking it takes up to a WEEK for them to put the payment through again! They need to up their online game for payments!

Extremely disappointing experience with…

Extremely disappointing experience with Spotify Premium Family support.

I have been a Spotify customer for several years and I manage a Premium Family plan allowing up to 6 members. My plan currently has only 4 members, yet Spotify is now preventing me from adding any new members.

The issue was reported to Spotify Support on August 29, 30 and 31, 2026.

Several different people have successively encountered the same restriction. In the most recent case, the invited member was rejected before even being given the opportunity to enter the household address.

After numerous exchanges with Support, Spotify eventually informed me in writing that the restriction resulted from an “automatic risk detection” and later referred to an “automatic protection”.

I repeatedly requested:
– the precise reason for the restriction;
– the date and event that triggered it;
– the contractual rule involved;
– how long the restriction will last;
– the conditions required for it to be lifted;
– and a genuine human review of the decision.

I have received no precise answer to any of these questions.

On August 30, one Spotify adviser wrote:
“We unfortunately cannot lift this restriction.”

When I asked for the official reason, the adviser replied:
“The official reason is that I do not have any more information to provide you.”

Yet only a few hours later, the same support service told me:
“Don’t worry, your problem will be resolved.”

Then, following another review, Spotify eventually stated:
“This action is blocked by an automatic protection that we cannot disable.”

This is precisely what I find unacceptable: contradictory answers, promises that the problem will be resolved followed by refusals, numerous changes of support advisers, and still no concrete explanation as to why my paid subscription is being restricted in this way.

I have kept the emails, screenshots, names of advisers, dates and times of the conversations. I am attaching several screenshots so that anyone reading this review can see that it is based on Spotify’s own written responses, not simply on my allegations.

After several hours spent trying to obtain an explanation and a solution, the issue remains unresolved.

A formal complaint and notice have been sent to Spotify. If no satisfactory solution is provided, I will pursue the appropriate steps with the relevant authorities and consider the legal remedies available to me.

I will, of course, update this review if Spotify ultimately provides a genuine solution.

As of today: issue NOT RESOLVED and an extremely unsatisfactory support experience.

Free trial charged

Free trial automatically renewed without enough warning. Cancelled immediately and asked for a refund — they refused. Didn't use the service but still lost £12.99. Be very careful — they make it hard to get your money back even when you cancel right away.

I've been using Spotify since its early beta release. But I will be cancelling my family subscription shortly.
The UI has got progressively worse over the years with no ability to modify this.
The Android app has become very glitchy and uses an enormous amount of device storage.
Today I've tried to add member to the family plan, only for this rejected due the address not matching the account address.
I'VE ENTERED THE EXACT SAME ADDRESS but it kept rejecting it.
Total shambles.
Everyone, do yourself a favour and don't waste your time and hard earned money on Spotify.
I'm moving over to YouTube Music now... it has its issues and frustrations, but at least it functions.

Spotify's desktop app stopped producing audio, no support or refund

Spotify's desktop app stopped producing audio on my Mac while all other audio worked normally. I contacted support, where a bot (which refused to identify itself as such) declined a refund for a service that was not functioning, offered no compensation, and presented only two options: perform an indefinite amount of unpaid labor troubleshooting, or cancel moving forward. When I asked to speak with a human agent, I was denied. When I indicated I would send the chat transcript to the FTC and our state's AG office, I was transferred to a human agent.

The human agent offered no meaningful support, including suggested a fix of reinstalling the app, did not work. The reinstall does not clear a hidden local config directory that was the actual source of the problem. I resolved the issue myself after ending the support session and spending considerable individual effort.

If you have the same problem (desktop app silent, browser or other audio works fine), quit Spotify, open Terminal, run rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Spotify, and relaunch. You will need to log in again, but it resets the corrupted audio routing config that a normal reinstall leaves in place.

A company that charges $23.53/month for a family plan should be able to diagnose its own software failures, not recite refund policy while its product sits broken.

Not sure why it gives you the option to…

Not sure why it gives you the option to have a 1star review when it won’t accept one ! This should be 1 star not 2 !!!
Pay for the family plan and wow cannot believe how shockingly bad this app is! Not sure why people rave about it as all it’s done so far is freeze, stop playing music and knocking off and play the same songs again and again just on a different order! You try adding new songs to your playlist to come back the next day and they’ve gone or been replaced with a shot copy! You ask for other types of music and yet again it freezes n cuts you off which then becomes a distraction while driving! I think sound clouds free version gives you better options just a shame about the adverts!

For an app that only has ONE real job

For an app that only has ONE real job, playing music, Spotify does an incredible job of making the experience absolutely horrible.

My account currently looks like it's been shadowbanned or something, and as always, it happened completely out of nowhere for no apparent reason.

The app demands an absurd amount of GPU/System attention/resources for something that should just play audio, constantly introduces unnecessary features that arrive broken, adds dominant functionality that interferes with other applications (such as screen recordings, Spotify just ends them), and somehow can't even play music if my headset is configured with a higher-quality audio format than whatever Spotify happens to support. That alone should be a major red flag. In this case, it simply refuses to play anything at all.

Whatever problem you're having, the troubleshooting journey always seems to start the same:

• Reinstall through the Microsoft Store? Still broken.
• Reinstall using the standalone installer? Still broken.
• Clear the cache? Still broken.

And the list of troubleshooting steps you're expected to go through just to fix an application whose primary purpose is clicking "Play" on a song is honestly hilarious.

I do absolutely nothing with Spotify except listen to music. I don't use videos, social features, recommendations, AI features, or any of the other extras they keep adding. I just want to play music. Yet somehow the application continues to break in the most random and frustrating ways imaginable.

The most frustrating part is that this isn't even a new problem. I was dealing with this kind of nonsense years ago, and now, years later, it feels like absolutely nothing has changed. Different, but also similar bugs, same bad experience.

At this point, I'm simply done with the platform.
