Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 263 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people faced frequent flight cancellations and significant delays, often receiving little notice and struggling with rebooking or obtaining refunds. Customers consistently reported issues with customer service, describing staff as unhelpful, unresponsive, and difficult to reach, with some finding the booking systems clunky or unreliable. Reviewers also noted a general lack of professionalism and a cold, distant attitude from many employees, both on the ground and in the air. However, some customers also noted positive interactions, particularly highlighting specific staff members who were compassionate, caring, and provided exceptional assistance. These positive experiences often involved attentive in-flight service or helpful support during assisted travel, making potentially stressful situations much smoother for a few travelers.

Paying for NOTHING

I am extremely disappointed with how SAS has handled this matter.

After changing my flight to an earlier date, I contacted SAS customer service to confirm whether my purchase of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) would still qualify for the EuroBonus points and the Conscious Traveller step. The advisor clearly reassured me that changing my flight would not affect my eligibility and that I would receive everything I had paid for. Based on that information, I completed my journey expecting exactly that.

Unfortunately, I received neither the EuroBonus points nor the Conscious Traveller step. I have since contacted SAS multiple times, yet the issue remains unresolved, and I have not been offered a refund for a product that ultimately provided none of the promised benefits.

What makes this even more disappointing is that I have been a loyal SAS customer for more than 10 years and have flown with SAS far more than the average customer. Loyalty should mean something. Instead, I feel that my concerns are being ignored and that SAS no longer values long-term customers.

I paid for a service based on the advice given by a SAS representative. If that advice was incorrect, SAS should take responsibility by either honouring what was promised or refunding the amount I paid. I should not be expected to pay for a product that delivered none of the benefits I was assured I would receive.

I sincerely hope someone at SAS takes ownership of this case and resolves it properly, because the level of customer service I have experienced falls far below what I have come to expect from an airline I have trusted for over a decade.

Flight Disruptions and Unsatisfactory Customer Service

The departure from the U.S. was delayed multiple times before the flight was ultimately canceled and moved to the next day. The following day brought even more delays. Then, on our return trip, our flight was canceled and we were rebooked on a connecting flight instead of the nonstop flight we had originally booked. Got worst seats despite booked and selected seats months ago. To make matters worse, our family's assigned seats were removed, and we were scattered throughout the plane.

Throughout the entire experience, no one I spoke with showed any empathy or even offered a sincere apology. The attitude seemed to be that this was just normal, with no concern for the inconvenience caused and no meaningful compensation offered.

The only option we were given was to cancel our trip and accept a refund. That doesn't make up for a ruined vacation or the money already spent on other travel arrangements and reservations.

Overall, this was an extremely disappointing experience. I plan to share the details of what happened on multiple review sites and with the appropriate departments so others understand that when something goes wrong, this airline offers very limited assistance or accommodations for its customers.

To top it all off, it was nearly impossible to reach customer service. The automated phone system never provided a way to speak with a live representative, making an already frustrating situation even worse.

Trash airlines

Our flight was delayed, due to technical issue with aircraft, therefore we missed our layover and had to spend 8 hours in CPH airport. We were provided a hotel, that's nice, but our luggage was taken to other airline and we couldn't get it for a night, therefore we did not have any medicine, clothes, cosmetics and other things with us. Customer support said, it's Iceland Air concern since they have our luggage, but ofc Iceland Air wasn't working at that time anymore, since flight was delayed so much. In the hotel we had to purchase everyting, because rooms did not have basic amenities like toothbrush or toothpaste, or even vanity kits. We asked for reimbursement, but SAS takes up to 6 weeks to process any complaints, which is ridiculous. Other airlines do it in one day, they care about their customers. I never had such bad experience in my life with airline, everything looks amazing, staff smiles, but customer support is useless and they just want to blow you off, blaming everyone else for their incompetence. Never again, I would rather don't have any vacation and work whole year than fly for holidays with SAS.

SAS Flights outbound and homebound cancelled last minute

SAS Flights cancelled both on way from Dublin to Stockholm (7 hours notice) causing a 1 day delay and return flights from Oslo to Dublin with a 2 day lay over (we had already gone through security when we received the cancellation email). What a mess.
We had to organise alternative flights and hotels ourselves in most cases. Compensation site only allowed for 4 submissions, obviously not enough for 2 days meals and 2 hotels for the return hold ups.
Customer feedback is non existent. Will we ever get compensation for a ruined trip? Will NEVER FLY SAS again.
Reason for cancellations? We were told at the airport that SAS crew were striking but this was never confirmed.

Who needs Ryanair if there is SAS.Stear clear if you are not obvious…

Stear clear if you are not obvious Scandinavian (read: obvious blonde).
Who needs Ryanair when there is SAS?

Flight attendants who definitely prefer Norwegians even when they messed up to the other correct passengers.

Late evening flight Bergen to Stavanger, no stress and even though the flight attendants managed to be selectively rude, discriminative and overcomplicate something from zero.

Boarding passes in hands we found our 2 priority windows seats were occupied and instantly called for the flight attendants. Happens a lot, normally takes seconds to solve.
Nope.

Instead of checking our boarding passes in seconds and the others in other few and asked them to actually occupy their own seats or offer other solution the ladies proceed to ... properly run a credit check on us.

Us. Not them. The 2 persons who knew perfectly they were in the other's people seats.
They just watched the show in total silence.

From outside we were the messed ones.
We who called them to help I the first place.

The both attendants not only went through our boarding passess, then they asked our names, then they check our names in their tablet and oh surprisingly... we were right.
Then without any hustle in seconds they just asked the names of the others and were discovered (another surprise) that they were wrong.

Their solutions was generously let us sit in the aisle seats we were complaining about in the first place, instead our registered 2 windows, which I gracefully declined as that's why we bothered to choose our seats beforehand.
Finally we got the window.

All this show to preserve the peace and quiet of nice Norwegian couple, who even didn't bother to book the seats they wanted and in no second even told sorry to anyone.

Cherry on top: on the goodbye exit route they had a sudden cough with me and something in the back for my companion, that stopped immediately after we passed by so they continued with the raw of happy goodbyes.

We spent three hours to get there only to find out that there was a passport issue for my wife.and they would not let get on the plane. Why could they not tell us before we went there.. I took SAS 53 years ago and they were good but now they are awful. Do NOT use them. Go anywhere else

Most disgraceful way to treat customers

I'm a frequent flyer. I travel 50% of my working time. I have done so for 30+ years. I have never had a worse experience or been treated as badly as I was by SAS on Saturday 27 June.2026:

I was booked to fly from Copenhagen (CPH) to New Delhi (DEL) via Milan (MXP) on a diplomatic mission. I had 1 hour and 5 minutes for my transfer in MXP. Flight from Copenhagen was delayed 45 mins. I informed the SAS transfer centre in the departure lounge at Kastrup and the gate staff that I had an onward booking to DEL in MXP, and was due to be picked up in DEL by Indian Gov reps. I requested help to alert Air India. Ditto flight crew. Noone did anything other than let me sit in the front of the aircraft for last 10 mins of flight so I could disembark first. We waited  25 mins for the steps in MXP. While waiting, I asked the flight crew again if I could be picked up and transferred to the Air India gate. I have an end stage osteo-arthritic knee, awaiting a knee replacement and can't run. Reply: ‘let’s see if there will be people picking you up’. Nothing happened. Disembarked, I tried to make my way to the other end of the MXP airport for the Air India flight as fast as I could on my poor knee. Eventually at gate, the aircraft was on the stand with 1 person at the gate. She refused me access to the aircraft. I pleaded with her. She did not speak English. Just said ‘no’  So I missed my flight to India. Key questions: How would I get to DEL? On what flight? Where were my checked bags?Where would I sleep in MXP? I spent 3 hours searching MXP for help. No informatio desk open and no SAS or Air India counter. I tried online. 24/7 SAS chat is an AI agent that tells you customer service is shut. I searched for phone line. Customer service out of business hours available for Gold customers only. No new flight info, nowhere to sleep, no idea where my bags were n. Nothing. SAS selss you a flight ticket and then you're on your own. Now midnight and all hotels in MXP booked, I eventually found one away from the airport. Taxis and costs to/fro. Hotel cost. Eventually new flight next morning early to Frankfurt...JOKE... 3 hours sleep. No bags. Back in MXP next morning, I eventually located my suitcase in lost property - damaged, wheel missing. SAS handling. I eventually arrived in DEL 24 hours late via Frankfurt with a broken suitcase and trade mission started without me and SAS nowhere to be found at any point. Returned from India, I write a formal complaint to SAS, demanding a refund of my ticket, damaged suitcase, overnight expenses and compensation in accordance with EC rules and get an acknowledgment email telling me to expect a reply within 6 weeks, adding insult to injury. Absolute disgrace

I'm a frequent flyer with SAS

I'm a frequent flyer with SAS, but recently the company has gone spiralling downhill with reliability and customer support. Multiple flights being cancelled and changed from direct flights to having layovers days off from the original date. Eurobonuspoints often missing, and no way to receive a compensation after damaged luggage despite doing the claim on arrival and filling in forms after forms. Impossible to get in contact with costumer support with even the chatbot saying "sorry, can't help you - goodbye". I cannot recommend SAS any longer.

STAY CLEAR!!

Shitty customer service, our flight to Alicante got cancelled less than 24 hours before departure. Was told by customer service to fill out a form and they will respond within 24-48 hours??!! Managed to find a number where we were basically told to just wait and they will fix everything. Wrong, our transfer (WHICH WE PAID FOR!) wasn't even told our flight got cancelled so we had to call ourselves and then it was too late for them to send a new one so we have to find our own way from Alicante to Benidorm. The hotel wasn't informed either, thank godness I managed to contact them myself before we got a "no show" and lost our reservation. Stay absolutely clear of this so called travel agency. Haven't heard a single word from them, no answer, no response in over 24 hours (we are already on the way to our destination as we speak). No information what so ever and the SAS staff can't help you. SAS holidays is a complete disaster

Terrible experience with SAS Airlines

Terrible experience with SAS Airlines. First time booked - never again.
Got on the same day 8 hours before travelling a cancellation notice.
Called their customer support for 1 hour. They did not offered any other alternative flights on the same day. On the next day they only offered cheap cost flights - not the direct more costly flights. Reason: We dont have them in our system. Although they were available. So there are other flights available but they dont book you too. They prefer to have you 4-5 times longer .

SO again - there were other flights but they on purpose dont offer as "its not in their system". However they are public bookable (yes expensive on short hand). So they rebook to other flights that are cheaper - not considering the impact you the traveller at all.

Totally unhappy about the customer service & experience after a cancellation. Furthermore - due to that I missed the wedding we planned to attend as all provided options were later than what we needed.

No customer service support rude check in staff, thank god for great flight crews

I booked business class for a trip to Denmark with my wife. I am disabled with mobility problems so need extra help which I got. My wife was booked to fly a few days before me and as a surprise I bought her a return ticket she tryed to cancel her first trip and the system cancelled her outgoing trip. So we now had two return tickets and no outgoing ticket. Emailed customer support looking for help nothing they could do to help told us to booked a new outgoing ticket. Not happy but have to live with it. Checking in was not good staff not helpful dismissing me with a wave of there hand. Felt I was a problem. Thank goodness for the flight crew they were wonderful made up for all the bad bits. The airline is not what it used to be even when travelling business class

Never book a holiday through SAS

Booked a holiday through SAS, mistakenly thinking we would have more protection by booking as a package rather than separate flights and accommodation. Both the outbound and return flights were cancelled by email by the flights side 8 days before departure. No email address or contact number to reply to. Received another no reply email rebooking us the following day outward and a return 2 days after the original without any consultation. Hotel not mentioned. We would have been prepared to travel from another UK airport on the original dates, if offered. Eventually found a contact telephone number and after holding for over 40 minutes spoke to someone who then said would need to call another number for SAS holidays. Did this and was told couldn't help and would need to email! Given an email address which then bounced back! Next day received an email offering us the option to keep the hotel or cancel the full holiday (but no offer of an alternative airport) and a deadline to reply by. Replied and the email bounced back! Give up! Useless! Have today received a similar email, saying if we haven't replied by 3pm, they will cancel our holiday and issue a refund. Little point in replying as no doubt the email will bounce back again.....
We have since given up trying to get to Copenhagen this weekend. Would never book with SAS again but unfortunately, if you want to travel to Copenhagen from Birmingham direct, they are the only airline available in the summer. Totally useless! Sure customer service must be manned by AI. We now need to try to claim compensation for the cancelled flights.....

Cancelled and lied in customer service

I booked my tickets 4 months in advance, and they got cancelled. They couldn't offer a rebooking so I booked a new manually.. after 14 days they suddenly just rebooked the flight. I called customer service, and they completely denied what I talked in phone with them about. Also they lied about not being able to sent a confirmation mail when I talked in phone with them. But now I understand the reason was, not to give me any documentation for later, so they could just refuse they didn't offered me any rebooking. I ended returning my new ticket from another carrier, lost 800 kr. Then now 8 days before im leaving, they cancel my flight which they rebooked again.. and now offering me an alternative a day after, also a flight which takes almost 10 hours with transit, the original flight was about 3,5 direct.

The customer service is completely helpless and don't show any interest in helping, they just tell me to send a mail, which you cannot unless you already had a flight (after the date of transport)..

This is without doubt the worst experience I ever had with a company this size, taking into consideration that I paid extra because SAS should be a stable and good airline company.
Definitely last time I ever book with sas.

Edit: after 5th attempt I actually had the pleasure of talking to one employee who finally had some skills and could rebook my flight for direct again and solved the problem, tho I still had extra cost of 700 because of their mistakes, which I probably won't get returned, but at least the last employee did a good job.

Avoid at all cost

I accidentally booked tickets for my 2-year-old daughter and me from Stockholm to Geneva instead of Geneva to Stockholm. I contacted SAS within minutes (although they make it very difficult to find their contact details) to ask if the itinerary could be corrected.
I didn't try to get a refund - I just wanted to correct an honest mistake. However, I was met with zero understanding or willingness to help from SAS. Very disappointing. Needless to say I will never book flights with them again if I can avoid it.

Avoid flying SAS if you can.

Avoid flying SAS if you can.

Our flight from Amsterdam to Japan was delayed, causing us to miss our connection. While delays can happen, what came next was even worse. SAS arranged one of the worst hotels imaginable for stranded passengers, making an already stressful situation even more frustrating.

To make matters worse, their customer service has been extremely disappointing. They simply reject compensation claims without taking any real responsibility or properly addressing what passengers experienced.

Poor service, poor handling of disrupted travel, and poor after-sales support. There are many airlines that treat their customers far better when things go wrong. I won’t be flying SAS again.
