Pie Tax Reviews 

This is my first year using Pie Tax, and I’m genuinely impressed. I used to pay an accountant £575 every year just to do my self-assessment and claim tax relief on pension contributions. This year I did it myself through the app, and it was simple and straightforward.

What really stood out: SEIS loss relief wasn’t initially available as a feature, and Richard was very responsive and added it to my tax return for free.

Customer service has been friendly and easy to reach via online chat, and booking an appointment is quick and hassle-free.

Would definitely recommend if you want to save on accountant fees without sacrificing support.

So as part of being a new business owner and a complete novice to tax. Having pie tax has probably been one of the best ideas I’ve had to dealing with my taxes.

I wasn’t really sure how to submit tax and how to do all the workings out and expenses but using the app is really easy and if your struggling they have a team of people who are there to help!

I personally pay them to do the submitting of tax for me and then i add there fee as an expense.

Very Helpful staff still waiting for them to contact me as I explained to them that I have experience in Mechanical Engineering on Jaguar Cars I'm entitled to 34.2% paid me in shares.

Great user experience. Full support in ap and via WhatsApp to field any questions you have along the way.

Very useful site, very helpful and nice staff. Always quick to help or point you in the right direction if they can't help directly.
ie CIS registration but the did talk( write) me through the process. And with all the right personal information (NI/UTR/ HMRC id number all done and dusted in one morning.

Answered all my questions we answered in short space of time unlike my experience with rift refunds that i used for ten years and they suddenly blew me of after keeping me waiting for months just to get simple answers . I would highly recommend pie to trades men and women excellent service thank you for your help

I downloaded this app and inputted all my personal information because the HMRC website said it had SA106 and SA109 forms available for my tax return. Although those forms aren't available for self-completion on the platform yet, I had a call with Richard who successfully helped me complete my tax return. The process was smooth and easy and Richard was very friendly and knowledgable. Thanks!

Hello there I find this app really easy to use as I’m not very tech savvy to. I’m a sole trader/cis so it dose all the work for you working out how much tax your getting back or how much you owe it’s free to👍 and the is a fee if you still need help with your returns

If your self employed this is a must have app,it’s an accountant in your pocket and they are always there to help

Absolutely amazing app — I’m genuinely so pleased I started using the Pie Tax app! It’s incredibly easy to use and makes tracking all my income and expenses simple and stress-free.
What really stood out to me is their customer support — super quick to respond and always kind, polite, and helpful. I also used their accountant service to file my tax return, and the whole process was fast and seamless. My tax assessment was submitted within just a few days, and I didn’t have to send loads of documents separately because everything was already stored in the app.
This was especially important for me as I’m in the process of looking to buy a property — having everything filed so quickly made a huge difference. I was able to keep my mortgage broker in the loop, and the whole process felt smooth, efficient, and stress-free.
It honestly saves so much time and effort. You can use it freely, pay monthly, or pay in one go for tax return support — so there are options for everyone.
Overall, a great experience — 10/10. I’d highly recommend it!

A very easy to understand and use app makes taxes very simple

Fraud company. They took our payment for video editing services and never paid us. We are owed 4 months of payment, and they still haven’t cleared the dues. They are not replying to our messages and are completely ghosting us.
It’s a shame for a big company to behave like this. I never expected this from them.
If anyone needs proof, please inbox us — we are ready to share it.

Awful unprofessional experience

The 2 stars are because eventually, after 3 months, they technically provided a self-assessment return draft... but tha experience was horrible.

I get that they were busy and all (maybe think about that before taking my money), but I explicitly told them that I didn't want them to wait until the very last week because I also have my job and personal situation; and I needed to review everything, provide any corrections and pull the money into the right account to pay.

Everyone to their own and maybe trusting a random company to deliver 5 days before the deadline is good enough for you.... my levels of stress made me hire a popular UK alternative who cost me THE SAME and delivered BEFORE THEM, taking just 4 days for the entire process and communicating me warnings and questions effectively (the alternative company; not Pie, sorry)

The app-ONLY experience is also not my cup of tea, in general, but even less when the app is not perfect and it lacks clarity on what services you already hired. It kept offering upgrades on top of the chat window, all the time, even when I was on the medium tier already.

The "Date of experience" is when I got my draft; the documents were sent to them 3 months before and I never got any proactive updates (imagine 3 months chasing and fully trusting that you'll be saved on the last minute by someone that you don't know at all)

Closing: I'm sure that they made an effort and had great intentions; the number on the draft made sense and surely just needed some checks on my part.... but I ended up paying to another provider and the experience is lightyears apart. I can't recommend this service.

I took out a 7 day trial which ended on the 3rd of February. On the 3rd I tried to cancel the trial to which turned out to be impossible! I phoned, emailed 3 times, tried the in-app chat... nothing! At 2.30om they then charged my account! So Halfway through the 7th day not even the end of a working day and conveniently no one to communicate with as to how to cancel the trial. Even if I did want to use the app, it doesn't fill me with confidence that you could communicate with anyone if you really needed to.

Edit....thank you pie for contacting me and giving me a full refund with no hassle! Very much appreciated.

I am really having trouble with team really bad service and I paid for DIFM for me and wife for 2 years that’s 125x4 =500 going to drain no real advise no effort of correcting or missing info even after repeated attempts to correct now look like I have to pay late fees as well.

Update: They have done all the calculation correctly but did on last day. But now overall happy that I dont had to pay late fees.

Edit- following my original 2 star review, the team reached out & corrected the assessment. It’s still unclear what technical error caused the issue to begin with, but it’s all resolved & I managed to submit & pay my self assessment before the deadline.

I can’t fault the follow up assistance, I hope that will be the default for all users in the future before they leave a poor review;)

I was so excited for this app & it syncs with banking app which was really helpful. Sadly fell totally flat when my submission went through to HMRC as 0 & both parties are unable to amend or correct it.

So, left having to submit a paper amendment after literally hours of on hold & ineffective customer support on both parties. Cannot recommend less.

It was absolutely straightforward and easy to use the app. This was also the fastest I have ever been in getting my taxes done. They have done a brilliant job making an intuitive app.

Honestly a game changer. I’m rubbish with this side of running a business. Pie has made doing my tax return this year the easiest it’s ever been. So simple, so smooth. Easy to use app means I’ve submitted my tax return the earliest I’ve ever done it in Jan before! Yay! Thanks Pie! 😘

I knew I’d got it wrong when it said the tax office owed me money on my self assessment. I used the service where pie did my entire taxes for me and I didn’t have to worry about a thing. My workings out were wrong. Very wrong. I’m glad to have let Pie tax catch it before going into HMRC fine territory.

Thank you to the team at Pie Tax. I’m going to stick with you just for peace of mind.
