worst homework there can be. why the HELL is it 300 Sparx Reader Points??!! This thing is made for 'leisure reading' but it feels more like reading as a chore! like before this corporate slop, it took me like 30 minutes to do all my homework, maths and science. now we have this!! like this thing is genuinely making kids hate reading! reading is for leisure! not for chores! like honestly getting 300 srp takes me like 2 hours and you can't even choose your own book to read. they give you. guess what. 4 CHOICES. This website honestly sucks, you get questions after reading a page of a book and they are so bad. If you get 2 questions wrong it lowers your SRP. And don't get me started on the books I absolutely hate them. It does not give me any enjoyable books. I'm literally reading Percy Jackson 1, 2 & 3 right now. And guess what? The only good books I've seen is an Alex Rider book and Alice in Wonderland. Everyone hates my english teacher for making us do this website for english homework. But seriously, they've given me a book which they said it got a 4.6 star rating and honestly the reviews of this book called "Prima Donna Pony". Google said this book is really good and guess what my opinion on this book is? Its terrible and it makes me wanna die of cringe. -20/10. And I swear, theres more worse books than this cringe book I've read. Theres one about a guy with an ear that farts and a new kid that has transfered to a new school. They are so boring. This needs to be fixed. The good book franchises Ive seen are Percy Jackson, Captain Underpants and Harry Potter. My favourite Harry Potter book is the deathly hallows one. I need this homework website removed from my school now!!!

SparxReader ruined reading, I like reading in general but sparxreader makes it a long, boring and monotonous experience. 300SRP takes over an hour to get, I have other things like my GCSEs to work on.

I am a trainee pilot. I was about to land my first plane then I realised my sparx reader was due. Without doubt, I crashed the plane to open my school chromebook and complete my sparx reader. I am now in a wheelchair, but I did my sparx! I cannot afford my hospital bills. Your welcome miss!

Spark is so shite I feel bad for the 2 million+ kids who do it because it doesn’t help comprehension or do anything else that it apparently does. Honestly I think it has decreased the amount of time kids spend reading for pleasure.

this is absolute pain when it comes to homework, this is the pinnacle of torture when you give kids this do to at home, this should be banned in every country due to the unfairness and repetition. this is a cash grab.

I do want to read more but it's when I'm obligated to do so when I don't want to (this is because I have ADHD)
This review is about the fact that I have ADHD because it does not consider our mental way of working as we can't go back to the text when answering questions and that we are being timed on the questions. My biggest problem with this is that I have to put twice as much work into my reading as everyone else as I have to read things 5 times to fully process it (no I'm not slow in the head I just have ADHD) and it takes me longer than the average time to do it. I do like the concept of this app but it would help for mental setbacks to be considered.

it is always glitching and takes me forever to finish my homework

do you like making kids cry? every single time i have done my sparx reader i have broken down into tears. you only get three book swaps and a lot of the books are about bereavement, violence, threat, and loss. high school is a common time to lose loved ones so it is a very sensitive topic. in addition to this, sparx reader is an utter waste of time. it takes at least half an hour to do and there isn't even a benefit. you're only allowed a limited amount of options to check the definitions of words! nobody likes sparx. these are our golden years and we should not have to spend our days reading boring ahh books! it is cruel and pointless. get a grip and learn some empathy.

Sparx reader overcomplicates reading and causers students anxiety and stress, Sparx reader is THE WORST homework you can set your students here is why:

1. Question answering
At the end of every page you read have to answer questions, most the time the questions are very vague or arn’t related to the text WHATSOEVER, and if you get 2 wrong you fail and have to read it again and because of failing two questions you looks out on 75% of SRP (Sparx Reader Points)

2. Books are absolute Rubbish
The books are the worst things I’ve ever seen not gonna lie, you get a choice of 3 or 4 books to choose from And no matter what you choose I can guarantee the book will be a horrible read, no books you know eg. Harry Potter, just neiche unknown books, still the book choices have no choice. I got to choose between some dress make over, Unicorn Book and a crime book as someone who dosnt like crime and dosnt want to read about dresses…

3. How to complete your Homework
Every time you read you get SRP (Sparx Reader Points) apparently it’s ment to be about how long youve read for 30mins for 300SRP but that simply isn’t true, there is no limit one week it took me 40 mins to do my homework the other it took 2 1/4 Hours!!! And absolutely horrendous system

If your thinking about giving this as homework for your students think again, it has ruined reading for many people in my school… If you want to make reading a horrible experience for students give them this homework

Sparks Reader Ruined Reading for Students

This is the worst platform i have ever used. It should not be used by any schools. The selection of books is terrible with none aligning with my interests at all.I got a book about the victorian era for crying out loud. and don get me started on the questions - you get one wrong even though the question made no sense what so ever probably because it was generated by ai and you only get 4 xp and when your weekly homework is 300 that makes it very difficult. Terrible platform do not use. It was designed for torturing students instead of teaching them. I gave it one star only because that was the lowest it let me go - I would give it zero stars if i could.

This subject of Sparx is MUCH WORSE THAN SPARX MATHS. For those that are reading my review for the first time, my first review was complaining on how bad Sparx Maths is. I was mad about the stuff Sparx Maths was doing. (read my review on Sparx Maths for more details) But no! this is worse, let me explain. Sparx Reader is Sparx but for reading and you might think that's ok because you get to read fun books and become really good at reading, WRONG! You see, Sparx Reader makes you read multiple paragraphs and you have to make sure you remember the entire essay you were reading, most of the time you have to answer 4 questions, sometimes 3, 2 or even 1. But if you get 2/4 correct, it's wrong so you have to do it again. And if you get at least 3/4 questions correct, you pass. Simple right? NOPE, because if you get it wrong the first time you have to get ALL questions correct, if you get 3/4 but you didn't pass first try, now you're wrong. Which makes it more stressful because you have to read the whole essay again but when you finish. You are stressing to get 1 question wrong, you already failed, and when you get enough tries, but never get full marks, you don't get any points. And the other that makes me mad is how some people need 150SRP to complete their homework when i need 300SRP. DOUBLE THE AMOUNT, and it's possible to get 900SRP. (apparently) this subject of Sparx makes people who love reading, hate it. Instead Schools should use paper or give people books to read instead of reading on a screen. Never go to a school that uses Sparx in general but if the School that dosen't use Sparx is far away, just go to a school that uses 1 subject on Sparx.

Before then, life was simple. I had hobbies, free time, and the ability to read without answering 27 questions about the emotional significance of a single adjective.

At first, Sparx Reader seemed harmless. "Just read a little every week," they said. "It'll only take a few minutes," they said. Those promises quickly disappeared as I found myself trapped in an endless cycle of reading, quizzes, and desperately trying to remember what happened on page 47 because the next question somehow expected me to know the exact reason a background character coughed.

My evenings were no longer my own. While my friends were relaxing, playing games, or watching television, I was locked in an intense battle with multiple-choice questions that all looked equally correct. Sometimes I was convinced the book itself knew I hadn't been paying attention and was plotting against me.

The emotional damage cannot be overstated. Every time I heard the words "reading homework," my heart sank. The mere sight of the Sparx Reader logo filled me with the same feeling people probably get when they realise they've left an important assignment until the last minute.

My social life also suffered. Conversations changed from "Do you want to come outside?" to "Sorry, I still have twenty-three Sparx Reader questions left." My family began wondering why I was muttering things like, "What was the author's intention?" under my breath at dinner.

Perhaps the greatest tragedy is that Sparx Reader made reading feel less like an adventure and more like an obstacle course. Instead of enjoying the story, I spent every chapter wondering which tiny detail would appear in the next quiz.

In conclusion, while this essay may exaggerate for comedic effect, Sparx Reader has certainly tested my patience, my memory, and occasionally my sanity. If future generations ever ask what true perseverance looks like, they need only watch a student completing their weekly Sparx Reader assignment at 9:58 p.m., two minutes before the deadline.

Though I survived, I will never look at an online reading quiz the same way again.
