If CIBC sucks then simplii must be sucker!!
I applied,
Waited a week or more and they mailed me the card and I done the verification successfully but I can't use the card or sign up for online banking.

I have broke the card and threw it away. They seems to be scam too.

🚨 MY EXPERIENCE WITH SIMPLI FINANCIAL — I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM

I want everyone to know what just happened to me because, honestly, THIS IS CRAZY.

I opened a brand-new Simplii Financial account after seeing an advertisement online. Everything seemed fine at first.

As my first deposit, a friend sent me $2,500 CAD by Interac e-Transfer.

I then tried to transfer some of my own money to my other bank account with TD.

That’s when everything went wrong.

Simplii completely blocked my account from making transfers. No e-Transfers. No bill payments. Basically, I couldn't move my own money.

They told me I needed to verify my identity. I DID.

I spent over 3 hours on the phone with them trying to get this resolved.

Still nothing.

My account has now been blocked for 2 WEEKS, and my money is still stuck in the account with no way for me to move it.

For the past two weeks, I've called Simplii every single day. And every day, I seem to get another explanation or another reason why they can't unblock my account.

At one point, they even sent me a barcode and instructed me to go to Canada Post with my passport to verify my identity.

I DID THAT TOO.

I have literally done everything they asked me to do, and my account is STILL blocked.

At this point, I am completely frustrated and exhausted. I understand that banks have security and fraud-prevention procedures, but keeping a customer's money inaccessible for two weeks after they have completed every verification step is completely unacceptable in my experience.

I opened this account expecting a simple banking experience. Instead, I've spent hours on the phone, made trips to verify my identity, and called every day trying to get access to my own money.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND SIMPLII FINANCIAL based on my experience.

If you're thinking about opening an account with them, please think twice. My experience has been an absolute nightmare.

Simplii Financial: I just want access to my money and for this issue to finally be resolved.

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. Constantly different answers from reps, limit increases are an absolute joke. Every 6 months evaluated and after a year only release $500 of funds. One manager released a hold on a cheque, the other refused to on weekly paycheque with a trusted employer and cleared cheques on a consistent basis. Multiple pre authorizations that were reported “Account frozen” when my mortgage lender, and home insurance lender tried taking payments and simplii had no answer as to why?

Long story short, this is not the bank to deal with if you’re looking for financial stability, and security. My husband and I ended up closing all our accounts with them after 6 months of constant issues arising. Some of the staff are very helpful, but majority have no clue and they don’t follow a policy whatsoever. It was more of a headache to bank with them than anything. Anywhere but here is my honest recommendation.

Reprisal after reporting Simplii to the FCAC and requesting call recordings as per PIPEDA

DoorDash broke a promise to refund me, so I called Simplii to start a dispute. The manager refused, claimed DoorDash wouldn't pay anyway, and then threatened to block my card by falsely filing it as "unauthorized fraud" if I insisted on disputing it.

I told her she was on a power trip and she got upset, exclaiming "Excuse me!"

I filled a previous complaint against Simplii with the FCAC and also requested recordings of the abusive calls that previously occured. They are bound by PIPEDA to provide them and though they agreed, they have been delaying the process ignoring emails, not answering calls while claiming they're waiting for me to be verified to provide the audio.

Their behavior towards me seems like a form of reprisal. You can't block someone's card for filing a dispute with a merchant.

Lasted 2 Weeks

I managed to stay a customer for all of 2 weeks. I didn't find their online platform to be particularly good (they're owned by CIBC, but there's a massive difference in platform quality). But, more importantly for me, the transaction limits they placed on my account were utterly ridiculous. $500/day limits. Sorry, no. I'm not a high schooler, I'm an adult who makes a good wage and has bills to pay and things to purchase.

Simplii will make you homeless

Simplii will make you homeless. I was told to go to the post office just to change my phone number on my online account, after being logged into the secure portal already, they said i need to get a text to the old number to confirm the new one... what? i provided proof it was me trying to edit my account, i was still denied. Then they locked my acount and told me to send documents of ID, which i sent 5 government documents, more than they asked, they are still playing games and withholding funds from me/ someone on government assistance, for no reason. they also play mind games with ur personal info, i have a hard to pronounce legal name, so over ten years ago i had them have a nickname on file, its never been an issue to respect that or find my file because its been noted for years, until i have an actual problem, then they use it as an excuse to treat me like im an international spy. if they dont want to deal with you, they will pretend the call dropped or pretend they cant hear you, even if u can hear yourself echo in the feedback. that just happened to me. Ive never been disrespectful to them, and they take kindness as an excuse to abuse your time. They only take security seriously if you act like you need anything legit from them. im not just some angry customer. ive been with them since i was 14. if 5 governemtn documents with names and security info arent enough to declare someones ownership of an account, what the "F" else is there to do? how is forcing me to go to the post office more legitimate? i strongly suggest you avoid these guys, dont reccomend them, and warn people away from them.

WILL NOT KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT SAFE

I have been banking with simpllii financial and PC financial before they were taken over by simplii for 25 years now. I have all my products and services with them. My bank account has been compromised 3 times this year. When I call in to report all the fraud charges they keep you on hold forever and they are so rude and take zero responsibility for keeping your accounts safe. I have an RFID wallet, don't use my debit card online and keep all passwords safe. The issue is clearly on the bank side but they refuse to take any sort of responsibility for the fraud. Clearly their bank is not secure which us very worrisome. When you ask to speak to a manager they tell you there is no managers working an that it will be 2 to 3 business days for one to call you back and 10 days for the fraud dept to get back to us. An absolute disgrace from a financial institution

Simplii makes you jump through hoops…

Simplii makes you jump through hoops that other on line institutions do not. The application process is designed to get you to use a credit card.
I ended up calling (after completing my application) to ask if they could send the card and pin to my summer address instead of my permanent address. The person had to check with a manager - the answer came back no. I said fine. Before I had the chance to activate my account I got a call from a manager telling me he wanted additional information - for security purposes in order to add another address!
I said that was only a question not a formal request and therefore no longer necessary. To which he said they would not open my account.
The number of “hoops” Simpli makes you go through compared to EQ or Tangerine is ridiculous.

Complain mismanagement 03366877 SIMPLI

When a bank's public relations team sees a review detailing a "system calculation glitch that triggers wrongful foreclosures," they often flag it for fast tracking. If they reach out to you directly through case number: 03366877. how many more customer need to be upset, to wake up the mismanaged System? I would Advise use other banks for your Mortgage to staY OUT OF AN CIRCLE YOU AS CUSTOMER EVERYTIME AT FAUL WHY YOU DONT COMPLAIN

Expired Card Replaced By Phone Agent

After discovering that my 16-year-old account was inaccessible due to nonreception of a replacement card sent to me over a year earlier, I was nonetheless able to obtain a new card client card number by phone and thereafter make a bill payment thanks to the superior knowledge and dedicated customer service skills of two Simplii Agents, Jenel and Sophia.

An absolutely "user-friendly"…

An absolutely "user-friendly" institution in so many ways and needs. I've had my moments of difficulty in dealing with the process of money management, and Simplii Financial steadfastly served me well. My customer service experience with them has been problem free despite the odd misunderstandings we've shared. RESOLVE appears to be one of their strongest attrabutes along side the nack of good guidence/direction/info. in layman's terms. I have always appreaciated the patience they render me in such respectful fashion. The AI Chat feature is a bit much to deal with and needs futher development BUT, the live agent support is wholesome/productive. I'm delighted with the relationship I've enjoyed with Simplii Financial and value them as a viable/positive/productive entity

Poor self service functionality

It's fine until you ever need to change anything to your account information. Changing the address is impossible and requires a landline (who has a landline?), AI chatbot is rather under developed, and actual humans cannot help you either when the AI bot connects with you. Friendly staff, just not able to do anything for you.

I typically reserve my energy for more…

I typically reserve my energy for more positive things, but the conversation I had with Steven this morning was a joke compared to the lovely service from manager Sarah and associate Emily. My apologies if there are misspellings, it was not intentional.

I had phone this morning as I had opened an account about a month ago and have yet to recieve my debit card. Emily and Sarah were able to assist me and assured me my card would arrive within the time-frame. There was an error with my address and upon further review of my records in my emails, I can see it was not on my end. No biggie. I told them that it was OK, I'm still happy with Simplii I just am a bit worried about constantly having to e - transfer my funds back to my old bank account because I don't have the darn debit card yet. That was all. We hung up and I hopped online to transfer funds out of Simplii that my wife had sent me to purchase some groceries to feed our family this morning. I could not log in to my account! That is when I called a second time and got Steven. Yikes. As a man, it's hard telling another man that yeah, 5 dollars is actually an emergency for some Canadian families these days. Yeah, I need it bad right now and I'm panicking because it was the last 5 bucks my wife and I had this week. We are in a recession guys. Not to mention, I'm disabled hence why we are so broke not that it was Stevens business but I chose to make it his business because he scoffed and suggested 5 bucks isn't an emergency. Buddy. Take some sensitivity training. Ultimately Steven wanted me to jump through hoops and even go through Canada Post to reverse the 5 bucks from my wife. I am disabled! I can't run around right now! Simplii needs to make sure that their clients can access their funds when they are not doing anything fraudulent. Too much red tape. Please re-train Steven in the interim. Thank you.

Simplii are simply thieves

As a new resident in Canada - I picked SimpliI after a lot of research, turns out I missed TrustPilot.

The cap of not being able to spend more than $500 a day is absurd, my account is full of money I cannot spend and that I need to spend to pay for services I need. Simplii have put a lone person in a difficult and vulnerable position and their customer services are beyond useless - Shout out to manager Natasha in particular for her condescending tone and lack of human skill.

Simplii are simply thieves with a stupid coloured bank card - Holding individuals money hostage and not making that clear when signing up. Despicable service, I'm getting rid ASAP.

Banking in Canada is the most backwards industry I have ever seen - its over regulated, staffed with idiots and not here to support the customer. What a significant negative to Canada.

Easy to reach

Using simpli financial since Oct 2011, that time it was PCF; signed up that time
While looking for no fee account with unlimited transactions and no mandatory account balances; have good experience. Recently paid bill accidentally to different company registered in my account, called at 5:20 AM to customer service; and they reversed the transaction. Big relief. Easy to reach at this hour, couldn’t stop myself without writing positive review, so I’m here.

This is the worst Bank for investments

This is the worst Bank for investments; they encourage you to open High Interest Savings account with a catch that existing customers will not their advertised rate of interest of 3.2% on the existing balance. This is a stupidity. They have your funds and they use but they treat the customers very badly.
This may be ok banking for your daily needs without any investments to save fees. PC Financial offers a better deal than this.

I have been with simplii for at least 8 years

I have been with simplii for at least seven to eight years. Unfortunately they have been absolutely terrible to deal with in recent months. Firstly I requested a certified bank cheque. Website stated 1-2 business day, however after a week with no cheque I had to forced to find a different institute to withdraw money from. On top of that I was unable to cancel my own order for a bank cheque and had to withdraw funds from my account to make sure there wasn't enough money to print it.
Finally they sent me a new card and cancelled my old card without any warning and the new card doesn't work. Customer service has been unable to do anything to fix my card. Unfortunately I will be finding a new banking service going forward
