The Michigan.gov website good overall, but DIFS is awful.
The Michigan.gov SOS office is very helpful when it comes to renewing drivers' licenses and license tags and checking voter information. I give it a 20 star 🌟rating. Michigan SOS Jocelyn Benson has done a great job for all the years in there. She is a great Gubernatorial candidate in 2026. She also earns 20 stars 🌟!!
However, my opinion of the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services is very low. See below for my analysis:
MI Department of Financial and Insurance Services (DIFS) is totally awful. I filed two complaints against Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company (MOO) for their denial of dental services done at University of Michigan Dental School (UMDS). One of my complaints was correctly reversed in my favor by Sophia Cantrell (File#246566-001). However, the other one was denied in error, even though I provided compelling documentation to prove my complaint was legit. It was handled by Niquel Cleaveland (Complaint File # 246379). She really blew it!
Also, just two days ago, a DIFS Departmental Technician named Angie Moon denied a complaint I filed against the University of Michigan Dental School (UMDS), because UMDS is refusing to refund me $72.84 that they owe me. I contacted UMDS several times over the last two months, but they just ignore me. In Angie Moon's denial, she failed to explain the reason for denying my complaint. She did enlist her supervisor's opinion, who also denied my complaint, and stated that their agency only handles complaints against insurance companies, but not providers. Well, insurance companies are providers too, of insurance coverage. They both really blew it!
Michigan DIFS is not that helpful in my opinion. They deserve a -10 🌟 rating!
