Active Water Leaks and 7 Failed Repair Attempts
We hired EcoTech Windows and Doors for a brand new exterior door system, but the project has turned into a total installation failure. The unit suffers from active water leaks through both the glass insert and the threshold sill. This continuous water ingress is soaking our subfloor and vapor barrier, resulting in water pooling on our basement floor and causing ongoing property damage.
Over five months, EcoTech sent service representatives to our home seven separate times. Their visits included multiple inspections by senior technical supervisors, hinge adjustments, caulking, and even a full frame removal and reinstallation. Despite these repeated attempts, their team failed to resolve the core structural defects, and the constant teardowns have left our brand new door system visibly worn, damaged, and held together by layers of patchwork.
Expecting a homeowner to absorb ongoing water damage while a contractor conducts endless ineffective investigations is completely unreasonable. Senior supervisory staff have already proven incapable of delivering a working product. We have now stopped permitting temporary patch repairs on an actively leaking unit.
Prospective buyers should research Consumer Protection Ontario, independent review platforms, and local forums before signing a contract with EcoTech. You will find a clear pattern of other homeowners dealing with identical installation failures, persistent water leaks, and warranty delays. Any public reply from EcoTech asking us to reach out to management is just a PR tactic. Management has possessed our photos and documentation for months, yet they refuse to resolve the issue properly.
RESPONSE TO ECOTECH - Sep 1, '26
---
EcoTech states this matter is not closed on their end. However, after 7 separate repair visits between March and August 2026 - including a full frame removal and reinstallation - the door continues to actively leak water into our subfloor during rain events. Furthermore, EcoTech representatives confirmed in writing that required flashing and drainage components were omitted during installation.
Because five months of temporary patch attempts have failed to stop active leaks and left a brand-new unit looking scuffed and heavily worn, we have requested a formal, permanent resolution. Our contact details remain on file, and EcoTech is welcome to reach out directly if they are prepared to offer a proper settlement.
If reasonable contact to resolve this matter is not made in a timely manner, we will proceed directly with formal legal action.
Thanks,
