Do NOT get a contract with American Home Shield!!!
I have had a contract with American Home Shield for decades and have only used them twice. The first time was a very long time ago and the second time was last month.
My central ac system is having issues so I requested service and of course had to pay a 'dispatch' fee of $100. Someone from a local ac & heating company came out, checked the ac unit and found no issues. Days later however, my ac unit stopped working.
This morning I contacted the local ac company and was advised to call AHS to have them dispatch someone out to my house. I was on hold with AHS for HOURS. No one ever answered the phone. There is no way to contact AHS on their website either. They have a Twitter account, Facebook account and Instagram account but no one responds to any of them.
I finally made the decision that if I want my ac unit working again which I very much do because it's incredibly hot and humid, I paid ANOTHER $100 to AHS. This is outrageous!
I am a retired senior on a fixed income and I can't be spending all of this money on service fees. I have been trying to call AHS all day long but it's the same thing. Put on hold.
They will take your money but they won't talk to you on the phone.
I decided to get a contract with another home warranty company that was recommended to me by the local ac/heating company. Same coverage, about the same cost as AHS. Three dollars less. It would have been a lot less but I opted to have my ac system checked twice yearly which is about $40 a year.
American Home Shield outsources all of their phone calls to other countries and you would think that they have enough employees answering the phone. Apparently they don't. This other company I now have a contract with does not outsource calls. They are in the US and all calls are answered in the US.
The local ac/heating company said she has never had any issues with the company she recommended and she said the company answers calls quickly. She said AHS doesn't and she has the same problems as we do trying to get someone on the phone.
This morning after all this hassle I wrote a letter to the CEO and president of AHS explaining what happened. I told him that I wanted two things. I want my $100 back and I want to cancel my contract. I'm sure I will never hear from him but I am at my wit's end with this sorry company.
