Farncombe - Herald to be avoided

Chartered "Herald" from Farncombe Boat House thru Waterways Holidays. Reception and introductions was well done, and boat seemed to be adequately maintained mechanically. However, she must have been twenty plus years old, maybe double that, and has not been maintained cosmetically, resulting in a very old, tired and unloved boat. A 69 footer should not be offered on the Wey, without a bow thruster. Further there was no coffee pot, extra mooring lines, or working gauges. We would not charter from Farncombe again. You respond that the vessel was built in 2004. Oh really? Hour meter shows over 19,000 engine operating hours. Assuming a typical operating day of five hours, over the past 15 years this boat has been under way 253 days per every year. I suggest she was built many years before 2004, judging from her condition

Reply from Waterways Holidays

Dear Dave,
Many thanks for taking the time to leave feedback on your recent boating holiday on 'Herald' from Farncombe Boat House on the River Wey. Herald was built in 2004. Herald is slightly shorter than mentioned at 66ft in length and it is extremely rare for hire narrowboats on the UK canals to be fitted with a bowthruster. We will pass your other comments to the boat operator and thank you once again for taking the time to give your feedback.
