Forward Deployed Engineering exists because enterprise AI value cannot be fully specified upfront. It has to be discovered in the client’s environment, where real workflows, hidden constraints, and model behavior become visible. Forward-deployed teams combine business judgment with deep AI engineering expertise to determine where AI belongs, build the system, and stay accountable for measurable outcomes.

This is not a service layer added to AI delivery. It is a delivery model built for how AI creates value: iteratively, in production, and in close partnership with the people doing the work.

For most enterprise buyers, sovereignty gets evaluated through the wrong lens. The real question isn’t where a model was trained, but how deeply a company’s systems have grown into a single provider’s infrastructure. A team can run entirely on frontier models built elsewhere and still control its own destiny, as long as the architecture was built with an exit in mind. GPU pricing and benchmark scores make for a compelling slide, yet total cost of ownership is what actually decides who wins. The organizations getting this right aren’t chasing sovereignty as a principle. They’re mapping their workloads and deciding case by case what to own, rent, or leave to the public ecosystem.

Most large enterprises have an AI strategy, but very few have changed how the business runs.
