some comments

- **View the group library** on your local Zotero desktop app or in your remote library.
- If you are working on a new topic, **create a new subcollection** under the relevant header (train-the-trainer-open-research or teaching-materials-for-novices).
- **Save all of your future references** in that subcollection. Zotero syncs the group library with the online storage, and your collaborators can see and access the new references you added. If you are revising a topic, make sure to **add the references** to the correct subcollection.
- **Ensure** that the local group library **is synced** with the remote group library.

specify here to not sync attachment due to lack of space?

You have now collected all of your references in a subcollection in the Zotero group. For the Train-the-Trainer repositories, there is a `reference.bib` file stored in the assets folder at the root of the repository. That reference file contains all references relevant for the program (not just for individual topics). When you add new references to the group (in Zotero Desktop or to the remote group), you need to **update the reference file inside the repository folders** from the LMU Open Science Center Zotero account. To do this, there are two options:

- **Manual export**: In the Zotero desktop app, right-click on the group library and choose *Export Items* or *Export Collection*, see [here](https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/exporting) for support. Save the `reference.bib` file in the corresponding repository. *Note that you will have to do this manually everytime you add or change a reference*.

change a reference that is used in the quarto tutorial or quarto slides your are creating.

- **Automatic export via BetterBibTeX**: To avoid the manual export, you can install the [BetterBibTeX extension](https://retorque.re/zotero-better-bibtex/) to **automatically generate and export** the `reference.bib` file from yout Zotero desktop app a soon as there are changes to your Group library. Check out the [installation steps](https://retorque.re/zotero-better-bibtex/installation/index.html), and the [automatic export documentation](https://retorque.re/zotero-better-bibtex/preferences/automatic-export/index.html). Once you have the extension installed and perform the automatic export via BetterBibTex, tick *Keep updated* in the export menu. This way, whenever someone adds a reference to your group library, and you open your local Zotero, the `reference.bib` file is generated from scratch and saved in the destination folder you chose.
