AGENTS.md: stop teaching min commands this repo's sandbox does not have - #634
Conversation
Every `min` spelling in this file had drifted from the shim it describes. Against a current unstable sandbox, bare `min` reports: min add [--session|--build|--runtime] <packages> min task run <task name> min package search <query> min package build <packages> min package patched-build <package name> min check min materialize --output <path> [--arch <arch>] <output name> So this file was wrong on five counts: `min search` is `min package search`, `min run <task>` is `min task run`, `min patched-pkg` is `min package patched-build`, `min add --task` has been dropped, and `min build` / `min test` are not shorthands that exist. It also documented `min check --profiles`, for a feature that has since been removed; there is no profiles/ directory in this repo. The file already told agents to trust bare `min` over itself, and it drifted anyway, because a written-down spelling is what a reader reaches for first. So stop writing them down. The tool surface belongs to the daemon and its reference; this file keeps the repo conventions that are genuinely ours. Describe each workflow step by intent and point at the two live sources (bare `min`, and the sandbox-operations reference). Keep the sequence, which is a real convention here: check, build patched, then check again so the output-dependent checkers actually run. Also add the two behaviours an agent cannot guess and will get wrong: that installing and recording a dependency are separate actions whose bare-install behaviour differs between a session and a task sandbox, and that interactive tasks are host-only. Step 5 recommended the patched build for speed without naming the cost. Say that its dependency builds come from cache, and point at a full build when the result has to reflect a dependency's current sources. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

The problem
AGENTS.mdtranscribed the in-sandboxmincommand surface, and parts of it no longer match any daemon. Verified by running each command inside a real task sandbox, and against the bareminoutput of a current unstable sandbox:AGENTS.mdsaidmin patched-pkg <pkg>min package patched-buildmin build/min testshorthandsmin check [--profiles], "packages/profiles/stacks"profiles/directory in this repomin add --task <task>min search <term>,min run <task>An agent following the first three fails outright.
The fix
The file already carried "Running
minwith no subcommand prints the authoritative list... Trust that output over this file if the two ever disagree." It drifted anyway, because a written-down spelling is what a reader reaches for first and a disclaimer does not stop that.So stop writing them down. The tool surface belongs to the daemon and its reference; this file keeps the conventions that are genuinely ours.
