📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Bump Bun to 1.3.14 (download URL and SHA-256s updated) and modify the build script to remove rust-toolchain.toml and patch scripts/build/deps/lolhtml.ts so the build uses stable Rust paths, with verification that the patch was applied.

Changes

Bun 1.3.14 Update

Layer / File(s) Summary
Version bump and artifact checksums
packages/bun/build.ncl
Version field bumped to 1.3.14, derived dl_base updated, and amd64/arm64 zip plus source tarball SHA-256 checksums replaced to match the release.
Build script: enforce stable Rust path
packages/bun/build.sh, scripts/build/deps/lolhtml.ts
build.sh deletes rust-toolchain.toml, applies a sed patch to scripts/build/deps/lolhtml.ts to disable the nightly -Zbuild-std/immediate-abort path, and verifies the patch with grep, exiting on failure.

🎯 3 (Moderate) | ⏱️ ~20 minutes

🐰 I hopped through lines, a tiny cheer,
Bumped Bun's number, checksums clear,
I nudged a script to stay on track,
Removed the nightly, kept things back,
Build stable now — a carrot snack! 🥕

bun 1.3.14's release build opts lol-html into -Zbuild-std + -Cpanic=immediate-abort
(nightly-only, to shave ~230KB). Our toolchain is stable rust 1.95.0, so that path
fails: "the -Z flag is only accepted on the nightly channel of Cargo". Route
lol-html to bun's existing stable -Cpanic=abort path (precompiled std) in build.sh,
with a verify-grep so a future bun build-script change fails loudly instead of
silently reverting to the broken nightly path.

Verified with a local `minimal package bun` clean-room build (MINIMAL_MEMORY=16GiB):
exit 0, lol-html builds on stable, artifact cached. See #228.

…al#734)

Every cold bun build on res-server-arm64 (c4a-standard-72) stalls at the
same line — 'zig obj -> bun-zig.{0..71}.o' — and sits there with zero cache
writes until the 6h watchdog kills the run. Three sandboxes, 2026-09-19/20/21,
two of them on gominimal#667 (which rotates bun's spec hash via rust). amd64 with 144
shards completes in ~4 min. The fast arm64 'successes' in the run history are
cache hydrations, not compiles.

bun's local profile sets -Dllvm_codegen_threads=availableParallelism()
(scripts/build/zig.ts codegenThreads); upstream CI never exceeds 8 shards and
shipped releases use 1. Pin arm64 to 8 with the same sed+verify-grep pattern
as the lol-html patch (gominimal#228). This PR's own build is the experiment: a cold
arm64 bun build either completes, or hangs again and we capture the process
tree live.
