Summary

Fixes bugs in the live Box Egress Proxy cases that T79 and T82 run. These cases could not pass, or could not prove anything, on a live proxy. No product code changes.

  • Lookup after destroy. min box audit <name> does not resolve a removed box. Both revocation cases now keep the id from before the destroy.
  • Mixed output. Showing <name> (box <id>). goes to stderr, and two calls merged it into the JSONL file with 2>&1, which crashed the Python check.
  • min secret list check. The list prints one field per line, so the same-line check never matched.
  • Log level. The lane's RUST_LOG hid the bep serve INFO records that round two reads. bep_live_gate now exports bep=info, because an earlier case can replace RUST_LOG and some cases restart the proxy themselves. This also fills the bep.log diagnostics the cases print on failure, which were empty.
  • Colour codes. bep.log holds them, and they split kid= from its value. rt_bep_log_since strips them.
  • Stale skips. Two legs skipped on #2525, which is closed. bep_r3_config_dir_rule_reaches_bep_serve now runs: a rule that only --config-dir holds refuses the mint. The round-two injection note now points at bep_store_reference_end_to_end.

Test plan

Run on the manual macOS lane, with a live proxy and a GitHub sign-in, one case at a time. The final reruns used binaries built from befda07d with #3003 applied. The script under test is this branch's:

  • bep_destroyed_box_values_refused_within_60s: passes
  • bep_destroy_with_proxy_down_refuses_by_attachment: passes
  • bep_r3_config_dir_rule_reaches_bep_serve: passes, and no longer records NOT RUN
  • bep_round_two_conditions_closed with E2E_BEP_QUARANTINE=1 and E2E_BEP_KEY_REPLACE=1: store rules, key and quarantine legs pass. The cohort leg records NOT RUN, because it runs on native Linux only.
  • bep_store_reference_end_to_end: now reaches its request and fails with store_item_disabled. That failure is a keychain denial, tracked in gominimal/inbox#1200, and not something this change addresses.

just ci was not run. The change touches only scripts/session-e2e.sh.

Refs #2564 and #2500. Both stay open until results are posted from main.

Generated by Claude Code

bep_destroyed_box_values_refused_within_60s and
bep_destroy_with_proxy_down_refuses_by_attachment could not pass on a
live proxy. `min box audit <name>` does not resolve a removed box, so
both now keep the id from before the destroy. Both also merged stderr
into the JSONL file with 2>&1, so the "Showing <name>" line broke the
Python check. stderr now goes to its own file.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The E2E script updates BEP logging and secret checks, uses saved box IDs for post-destroy audit queries, and captures audit stderr. It also changes store-injection reporting and adds an executed check for activation with a rule available only through --config-dir.

Changes: BEP end-to-end proof updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Log and secret checks
scripts/session-e2e.sh
The live gate adds bep=info to RUST_LOG when needed. The secret-list check looks for the upstream within two lines after the secret ID. BEP log filtering strips ANSI color codes, and the store leg uses the filtered log to find its startup record.
Destroy-revocation audit checks
scripts/session-e2e.sh
The proofs save box IDs before destruction and use those IDs for post-destroy audit queries. The second-box audits capture stderr and include it in failure diagnostics. The proxy-down proof checks that the removed box has zero revocation records.
Store and config-directory proof coverage
scripts/session-e2e.sh
The store-injection subleg is no longer marked not run. The config-directory proof creates a rule in a temporary directory, runs activation with --config-dir, and checks for refusal with the expected explanation.

Explanation

The title "fix(e2e): let the live Box Egress Proxy cases reach their checks" follows the Conventional Commit form and names the main change. The PR fixes bugs in the live Box Egress Proxy e2e cases so they can run their checks. The changeset touches only scripts/session-e2e.sh, and the objectives confirm that the fixes address those cases. The title is specific and accurate.

Explanation

The description is mostly complete. It includes a detailed summary, linked issues, test scope, test results, known failure context, and an explicit note that no product code changed. It does not include the required Checklist heading or explicit confirmations for documentation and breaking changes.

…ecks

Four more faults kept live proxy cases from proving anything:

- `min secret list` prints one field per line, so the store case's
  same-line check never matched.
- The lane's RUST_LOG filtered out the `bep serve` INFO records that
round two reads. The VM lane default now carries bep=info.
- bep.log holds colour codes, which split `kid=` from its value.
  rt_bep_log_since strips them.
- Two legs still skipped on #2525, which T98 closed. The config-dir case
now runs: a rule only --config-dir holds refuses the mint. The
round-two injection note points at bep_store_reference_end_to_end.

NIT · correctness · confidence 0.50 · in proof_bep_destroy_with_proxy_down_refuses_by_attachment

The audit call now uses the id in $pd_web_id, but the failure text still prints min box audit $pd_web. The same holds for the messages at the later $pd_web and $dv_web lines. A person who copies that command gets a lookup failure for the removed box. Print the id in these messages.

First verify this against the code yourself. It is model output and
may be wrong. If it is wrong, or the tradeoff was deliberate, say so
and change nothing.

👍 useful · 👎 noise — react to tell the reviewer. Replying works too, and says more.

proof_github_only_allowlist replaces RUST_LOG before the BEP cases run,
so a lane default would not reach them. bep_live_gate now exports
bep=info, which also covers the cases that restart the proxy themselves.

The failure messages named a removed box, which `min box audit` cannot
resolve. They now print the id.

Use a fixed-string match for the upstream row.

A valid dotted host is interpreted as an extended regular expression. An incorrect upstream: value can therefore pass the two-line assertion. Match the exact row emitted by min secret list instead.

Update the upstream-row assertion in the min secret list check to use a
fixed-string exact-row match instead of an extended regular expression, so host
characters such as dots are treated literally and only the expected upstream
value passes.
