test(minimald): give each own-address test box its own host port - #2752
Main's CI (Linux native) lane is red on 5d339df and de32bd3: box_actor::tests::a_box_destroyed_inside_the_landing_window_is_not_resurrected fails with
FinalizeSession failed: Port 18080 is already in use on this machine by another program on this machine.
Cause
Every own-address test box in crates/minimald/src/box_actor/tests.rs declared host port 18080. Since T100 (#2725), a finalize probes a declared port at the box's published address and refuses it when something else holds it, which is the intended behaviour. nextest runs tests in parallel processes on one host, so a test that publishes at 127.0.0.1 can catch another test's box, or the host program that activation_refused_when_declared_port_is_held_by_a_host_program deliberately binds, on the same port, and refuse its own box. Before T100 the second box lost the port silently and the tests did not notice.
Fix
Test-only. Each test draws one free port (bind, read, drop, as the tree's other free-port helpers do), and every box in that test declares it, so the collision tests still put two boxes on one port. Assertions read that port back instead of the literal 18080. No assertion is weakened, nothing is marked serial or ignored, and no production code changes.
The one other literal 18080 in minimald's tests (rpc/tests.rs, create_session_rejects_static_ingress_on_host_net) is refused at create and never binds, so it is left alone.
Verification (Linux, Lima)
just test-one "box_actor::tests" -p minimald, three runs: 148 passed each time.
The whole minimald suite: 1195 passed, 2 failed, both from the VM's environment and not this change: box_runtime::tests::a_hook_launch_does_not_advise_unenforced_placement (cgroup EACCES) and net::classifier::tests::the_ruleset_rejects_udp_443_from_leaves_in_the_blocked_set (the VM's /tmp is mode 775, which the QUIC helper install refuses).
Rebased onto 1abfd90; the two commits since do not touch box_actor/tests.rs.

Tests
Own-address tests now use an available port selected at runtime rather than a fixed port. Tests within the same process share that port, and related session, collision, routing, publication, and hand-over checks use it consistently. Expected behavior and user-facing functionality remain unchanged.
Every own-address test box declared host port 18080. Since T100 a finalize
probes a declared port at the box's published address and refuses it when
something else holds it. nextest runs tests in parallel processes on one
host, so tests that publish at 127.0.0.1 in lockstep (the landing-window
tests among them) can catch each other's probe and refuse each other's box:
"Port 18080 is already in use on this machine by another program".
Each test now draws one free port, bind-read-drop as the tree's other free
port helpers do, and every box in the test declares it, so the collision
tests still put two boxes on one port. Assertions read that port back.

Walkthrough
Own-address box actor tests now select a port from 23000..24000 using a per-process lock file and a bind check. The session declaration and related collision, routing, publication, and hand-over assertions use the selected port instead of fixed port 18080.

Summary
Lease and use a per-process test port crates/minimald/src/box_actor/tests.rs
A helper selects the first lockable, bindable port in the configured range and retains its lock for the process lifetime. The own-address test declaration and related assertions use that port.
gominimal/minimal#2751: Changes the same own-address test fixtures to replace fixed port 18080 with a per-process port allocation approach.
gominimal/minimal#2754: Changes port-holder detection in host_ports_in_use to tolerate transient probe binds, addressing the same parallel-test collision from a different layer.

Merge Risk: Low · up to c35b8
The test-port lease reduces parallel test collisions, but a host listener or another user’s tests can still claim the selected port. This is a bounded test reliability risk.

Explanation
The title follows the Conventional Commit form type(scope): summary with lower-case imperative wording and no trailing period. It names the main change: each own-address test box now declares its own host port instead of the shared port 18080. It is specific and related to the changeset, so the check passes.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description covers the required template areas. The Summary area explains the cause (shared port 18080 in own-address test boxes, and the T100 finalize port probe) and the fix (per-test free port, assertions read back the port). The Testing area lists the commands run, the pass counts, and the two unrelated VM failures. The description does not link an issue with Refs: or Closes:, and the Checklist items are not ticked. It does not say whether docs were updated or whether a BREAKING CHANGE: footer applies. These gaps are minor for a test-only change, so the check passes.

Keep the selected port reserved until the first bind.
DECLARED_PORT stores only port_of(&listening_socket()). The listener binds an ephemeral port and is then dropped, so the port is not reserved. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Another nextest process or host listener can claim the port before the test uses it. The test can then fail with PortInUseRefusal or report a false collision. Use a coordinated test-scoped lease, or retry the complete setup after an actual bind conflict.

A port drawn with bind(0) and dropped is free only at the draw. Another
process's bind(0) or outbound connect can be handed it before the
finalize under test probes it. Ports now come from 23000-23999, below
the kernel's ephemeral range, and a lock file per port keeps two test
processes from leasing the same one.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
The lease logic looks right to me. The lock file is what reserves the port, not the bind probe: File::try_lock is flock(LOCK_EX | LOCK_NB) on Linux and macOS, and an flock lock belongs to the open file, not the process. Each thread-local initialisation opens its own File, so another test thread in the same process gets WouldBlock and moves on, and so does another test process. The probe's listener being dropped straight away is fine, because the finalize has to find the port free.
A few things I'd like addressed before approving, inline below. (1) is the one I care about most; (2) to (4) are smaller.
declared_port() leased a port per thread, so a call from a task on a
runtime worker would lease a second one. nextest runs each test in its
own process, so the lease is now process-wide. Lock files live in a
per-user directory, and a lock file that cannot be opened counts as
leased instead of panicking. The comments say what the 127.0.0.1 probe
and the band below the ephemeral range do not cover.

Dropped: the hunks for #2749's tests, which the line does not have at this point, and for
main-only test text. #2749 carries its own tests with declared_port() when it lands below.

…ge lands present (#2749)
Fixes a regression from T98. When a box's range probe lands present, its declared forwards,
its min net expose forwards and its listen-published forwards move from the 127.0.0.1
interim to the range address, so the name and the forward answer at one address. The host
egress gate admits the bounded range probe, the walk is contention-safe, and VM host-net
boxes dial their listeners at the guest's 127.0.0.1.
Backport of #2749.
Adapted to the line:
- box_actor.rs and box_actor/{handle,ports}.rs hunks land in session.rs, box_manager.rs and
box_manager/handle.rs hunks in sessions.rs, and box_actor/tests.rs in session/tests.rs.
The line has no box_actor/kind.rs, so its message-name hunk has no target.
- crate::traced becomes tokio::spawn, and box names become session names throughout.
egress_gate.rs gains the tracing::Instrument import that main already had.
- ANONYMOUS_SESSION becomes pub(crate) for the actor's move log lines.
- The tests' port 18080 reads declared_port(), matching #2752, which landed earlier here.
- ListenPlan gains the hostnames and session_id fields the move reads. On main they came
with NET-129's dynamic holds, which the line lacks; only the two fields come here.
Dropped because the line has no NET-129 dynamic holds:
- ListenPlan's record, release and move hold helpers, their calls in the watcher, and the
bound_address helpers that fed them. A listen forward's move needs none of them: a port
another box holds by declaration still stops the move, read through shared_port_holder.
- The test a_listen_port_whose_move_failed_releases_its_hold_where_it_was_bound.
- The dynamic-hold assertions in the runtime-publications landing test and in
a_listen_port_does_not_move_onto_a_port_another_box_holds.
- The host_net.insert in register_host_net: that field arrives with T106, next.
