fix(minimald): tell an exec why a session destroy ended it - #2351
Conversation
An exec whose session is destroyed under it -- `min session destroy`
while `min session exec` runs -- ends with a bare 137 and nothing on
stderr to say why. The daemon-shutdown path already writes such a line
("minimald is shutting down; the command was stopped"); the destroy
path had no equivalent.
Give each session actor a `destroying` CancellationToken, cancelled in
the Destroy arm before the teardown stops the host, and mirror it on
BoxHandle as `is_destroying` (read-only, like the manager's
`is_shutting_down`). Generalize exec.rs's notice seam to a closure
returning the notice bytes: shutdown first, then session destroying,
so the client gets one line ("the session was destroyed; the command
was stopped") and still sees the command's own exit status.

The destroy notice ("the session was destroyed; the command was
stopped") reached execs the destroy did not stop. Three changes:
- Cancel the destroying token immediately before stop_running, after
the destroy hooks, so an exec that ends during the hooks is not told
the destroy stopped it.
- Write a shutdown or destroy notice only for a kill-shaped status
(128 or more), so a command that exits on its own gets none.
- Skip the destroy notice for TokioExec (git receive-pack and
upload-pack). It runs on the daemon's host, and the destroy's host
teardown does not stop it.
Tests: a clean exit gets no notice, and a destroy marks the handle an
exec holds as destroying.

Round 1 of 10 on a /revise note, pushed as No Review threads the coder judged:
A Notes from the agent: Directive item 1: the token is now cancelled immediately before stop_running(false), after the destroy hooks. Item 2: bridge_noting_reason writes a notice only when the exit status is 128 or more (KILLED_STATUS_MIN). A box process reports a signal as 128 + signo. A TokioProcess killed by a signal reports 1 (code() is None), so it never gets a notice. That is the correct result, because a destroy does not stop a TokioProcess. Item 3 reproduces: TokioExec runs git receive-pack and upload-pack on the daemon's host, and the destroy's host teardown does not stop them. I added an associated const Exec::ENDED_BY_BOX_DESTROY (default true, false for TokioExec), and ExecTask::run checks it before it uses the destroy notice. The shutdown notice behaviour for TokioExec does not change. Optional item: destroy_tears_down_a_running_session now asserts that a real Destroy sets is_destroying() on the handle that an exec holds. I did not add a test that drives ExecTask::run itself. It needs a live russh Channel, and the unit tests have no harness for one. I did not run just ci, just clippy-strict or test-ignored. |

…t stop it A task runs in a hakoniwa sandbox of its own, which BoxActor::stop_running does not stop: the destroy kills only the box's host and side ops. A task that exits 137 while a destroy is in progress was therefore told the destroy stopped it. TaskExec now sets ENDED_BY_BOX_DESTROY to false, and the notice choice moves into exit_notice so a test can pin it per exec kind.

The exit status alone cannot tell a kill from a command that exits on its own with 128 or more. The bridge now stops a box exec when the destroy token fires, and only that stop prints the destroy notice. Also rewrite the is_destroying doc comment as short sentences.

Round 2 of 10 on a /revise note, pushed as No Review threads the coder judged:
A box exec prints "the session was destroyed; the command was stopped" only when the bridge stopped it because the destroy token fired. A command that exits on its own with 130 during a destroy gets no notice, and its status still passes through. an_exec_that_exits_on_its_own_gets_no_notice pins this. Notes from the agent: The exec bridge now wraps each box-exec process in StoppedOnDestroy. Its wait races the inner wait against a child token of the box's destroy token (BoxHandle::destroy_signal). The race is biased to the inner wait, so a command that already ended wins. When the token wins, the wrapper calls start_kill, records the stop, and waits for the process to end. Only that record prints the destroy notice. The status gate no longer applies to the destroy. The shutdown notice keeps its >= 128 gate, because the directive scoped the change to the destroy path. bridge and bridge_one did not change. The mock Process gets exit_on_kill, so a test can model a kill that reports 137. With -D warnings, cargo clippy -p minimald fails first in minimald-rpc/src/trace.rs:199 (clippy::chunks_exact_to_as_chunks). That error is already on the branch and is not in a file this round touched. So I ran clippy without -D warnings and checked that the changed files have no warnings. bridge_noting_reason now has eight arguments and carries #[expect(clippy::too_many_arguments)], as other modules in this crate do. I did not run just clippy-strict. |

arch-review: PASS · the full ruling
The change conforms to the design. The destroy sets a token after its hooks and before it stops the host. The bridge then ends an in-box exec through the shim's SIGTERM, grace, SIGKILL path, as architecture.md line 493 says. The command's exit code passes through, and the notice goes only to stderr. Task and host-side execs are not stopped, which agrees with line 499. One gap is outside the design: docs/reference/cli-min.md does not yet document the new destroy notice.

Document why the shutdown notice gates on a kill-shaped status: a command the shutdown stops is always SIGKILLed and reports 128+signo, so a lower status during a shutdown means the command ended on its own and was not stopped by it. arch-review: PASS · the full ruling
The new commit adds only a comment above the shutdown gate in bridge_noting_reason. The comment is accurate, and the behaviour does not change. The notice still goes to stderr, and the exit status still passes through, as architecture.md line 493 requires. The PASS on 204a9bc6 carries forward to this head.

The pump now takes input off the channel as it arrives into a held queue the bridge reads from, bounded per exec (256 MiB) and for the daemon (512 MiB): past a bound a command that reads nothing for 10 s is ended with a notice on its stderr, a command that has not started is waited for up to 300 s, and an exec holding nothing at the daemon bound waits for the others up to 60 s. A single program that closed its stdin is not charged for input it will never read, which needs the injection shim to let go of its own copy of that stdin once the command is spawned. An exec whose end comes while its command is starting ends at once, and the command a late start yields is reaped. Ported onto main across the destroy-notice work (#2351): the destroy wrapper takes an optional token so the bridge hands back one stream type for a late start, and bridge_noting_reason names the three ways an exec ends.
