refactor(minimal-client): move AskWatch into ask_dialog to break an import cycle - #2341
Conversation
attach and ask_dialog imported each other: attach needs the dialog renderer, ask_dialog only the AskWatch type. Move AskWatch (with its impl) and the is_dismissal_of helper it calls from attach into ask_dialog, making is_dismissal_of pub(crate) so attach's serving loop keeps its buffered-dismissal check. The import edge now runs attach -> ask_dialog only; no behaviour or public API changes.

The move is right and the direction is the one that breaks the cycle: AskWatch is the dialog's view, attach consumes it. Approving with one ask before merge: the seven-line comment above the use in attach.rs narrates this PR's review (who asked for a re-export, who withdrew it, the PR number). Review history does not belong in the source; a future reader has the git log. Please cut it to the one sentence that carries the design fact, e.g. "AskWatch is deliberately not re-exported here: ask_dialog is a pub mod, so its public path is minimal_client::ask_dialog::AskWatch, and a re-export from attach would re-couple the modules this split apart." (Also: as_fd still carries a local use std::os::fd::AsFd as _ now that AsFd is imported at the top of the module.)

crates/minimal-clienthad two modules importing each other:attachneedsask_dialog's renderer for its host-ask serving loop, whileask_dialogneeded only theAskWatchtype fromattach.AskWatchis a dialog's view of the ask subscription (poll fd, buffered check, line-by-line dismissal detection), so it belongs on the dialog side. This moves
AskWatch(struct and impl) and theis_dismissal_ofhelper it calls fromattach.rsintoask_dialog.rs, makingis_dismissal_ofpub(crate)soattach's serving loop keeps its buffered-dismissal check.attachnow importsAskWatchandis_dismissal_offromask_dialog, andask_dialogimports nothing fromattach. No behaviour change; no public API change beyond the two paths.Verification
cargo fmt --all --check --manifest-path target/Cargo.toml — clean
cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --locked --manifest-path target/Cargo.toml -- -D warnings — green
cargo test --locked --manifest-path target/Cargo.toml -p minimal-client — 107 passed, 0 failed
grep of the two use lines — edge one-directional: attach.rs:12 imports from ask_dialog; ask_dialog.rs has no import from attach (issue's success check)
cargo test --locked -p minimal — 527 passed; 1 pre-existing failure (legacy_network_spellings_parse_with_hint, also fails on pristine main with my change stashed, unrelated to this move)
