fix(sessions): reject session names that are not DNS labels - #1944
Conversation
Session names are rendered into <name>.min.internal box names, so a name must be a single DNS label. Previously validate_session_name accepted spaces, slashes, dots, non-ASCII and over-long names, so sessions were created but never resolved or collided. Require an LDH label: ASCII letters, digits and '-', 1 to 63 octets, not starting or ending with '-'. Validation runs on create and on save-of-changed-name only, so legacy records still load and can be renamed to a valid name.

The autogen and task session names kept `_` and `.` from the directory or task name and had no length bound, so the DNS-label rule now enforced by the session store refused them (`min session activate` in a dotted directory such as a mktemp dir failed). Map `_` and `.` to `-` and cap the component, and rename the minimald RPC test sessions that used a space.

If a legacy non-LDH name is renamed to a valid name and the process crashes before
flush_index, the index can retain the old name. A transient read error during startup can preserve that entry whileDiskLoader::newsucceeds. When reads recover, renaming the record to the stale name makesold_name == new_nameinDiskLoader::save. The save then skips the new validator and can persist a non-LDH name. Compare the requested name with the record’s on-disk prior name; keep the indexed name for index maintenance.Suggested fix
let old_name = self.index.name_by_id(&id).cloned(); + let stored_name = self.get(key)?.record.name; let new_name = record.name.clone(); - if old_name != new_name + if stored_name != new_name && let Some(name) = &new_name { validate_session_name(name)?;🤖 Prompt for AI Agents
