fix(sandbox2,minimald): cap each box's pty count and raise the guest pty limit - #1892
Conversation
…pty limit Each box's devpts instance is mounted without a per-instance max=, so it draws from the one kernel-wide PTY counter (kernel.pty.max minus kernel.pty.reserve). One box opening PTYs until the kernel refuses starves every other box and the session host's own shells. Remount the box's /dev/pts with max=BOX_PTY_MAX (1024) in the pre-exec closure, before the credentials drop, where the box's user namespace still holds CAP_SYS_ADMIN over its mount namespace. The remount is best-effort: a refusal is recorded in the closure report and warned, and the box still runs on the shared pool. Raise the guest's kernel.pty.max to 65536 so several boxes at their cap plus the host's shells fit, also best-effort. Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com>

…emount A devpts remount resets every option it is not given to the kernel default (ptmxmode=0000, mode=0600), and MS_REMOUNT without MS_NOSUID and MS_NOEXEC clears those flags. Remounting with data "max=1024" alone left the box's /dev/ptmx (a link to pts/ptmx) unopenable for its unprivileged user. Restate hakoniwa's ptmxmode=0666,mode=620 and nosuid, noexec along with the cap, and drop the in-child tracing call that ran between fork and exec.

…rove the remount in a box Remount the box's devpts before the classifier cover and append any refusal to the cover line, so the one-line closure report no longer loses the cover (or the tmpfs-fallback warning) to a devpts line. The daemon says each part of a combined line. A new box test checks /dev/pts carries max=BOX_PTY_MAX, keeps nosuid, noexec and ptmxmode=666, and that the box user opens a PTY pair.
