Routing-Key: inbox-route/I_kwDOSUhdos8AAAABUwHLvg

An own-address box whose --ingress list publishes the same host port
twice (or maps to box port 0) activates without error, then fails at
attach because gvproxy's static forwarder cannot bind the same host
port to two destinations and port 0 is reserved.

This adds PolicyError::DuplicateIngressPort and
PolicyError::InvalidIngressPort variants, rejects duplicates (by host
port and protocol; TCP and UDP on one host port are distinct gvproxy
forwards and both stand) and box port 0 in validate_policy, and
rejects box port 0 in parse_ingress_mapping with matching wording.

Verification

  • cargo fmt --all --check — clean
  • cargo clippy --workspace --locked -- -D warnings — no new warnings
  • cargo build --workspace --locked — passes
  • cargo test -p sessions -p minimal --locked — 5 new tests pass,
    1 pre-existing failure (legacy_network_spellings_parse_with_hint,
    unrelated)

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Ingress mappings now reject internal port 0, which is reserved.
    • Policies now reject mappings that use the same external port on the same protocol.
    • Invalid ingress mappings are reported before network-mode compatibility is checked.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Ingress mapping parsing now rejects internal port 0. Session policy validation rejects internal port 0 and repeated external ports, including reuse across TCP and UDP mappings.

Changes

Ingress Validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Reject internal port zero during parsing
crates/minimal/src/cli.rs, crates/minimal/src/tests.rs
parse_ingress_mapping rejects internal port 0. A regression test checks for an error containing port 0 is reserved.
Validate ingress ports in session policy
crates/sessions/src/lib.rs
PolicyError adds errors for duplicate external ports and internal port 0. Record::validate_policy checks these conditions before network-mode compatibility. Tests cover duplicate ports across mappings and protocols, internal port 0, and error precedence.

Large valid ingress policies can make session validation excessively slow, so the duplicate check should be made linear before merging.

742-757: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Use a linear duplicate check.

port_mappings has no application-level count limit. CLI construction accepts every mapping in args.ingress, and SessionConfig deserializes the policy from RPC input. A valid list can contain all 64,512 non-privileged u16 host ports. The current scan can therefore perform billions of comparisons before finding no duplicate.

Use a HashSet while preserving the current first-in-list duplicate selection:

♻️ Suggested refactor
         if let Some(external_port) = self.policy.ingress.as_ref().and_then(|ingress| {
-            ingress
-                .port_mappings
-                .iter()
-                .map(|mapping| mapping.external_port)
-                .find(|&port| {
-                    ingress
-                        .port_mappings
-                        .iter()
-                        .filter(|m| m.external_port == port)
-                        .count()
-                        > 1
-                })
+            let mut seen = std::collections::HashSet::new();
+            let mut duplicates = std::collections::HashSet::new();
+            for mapping in &ingress.port_mappings {
+                if !seen.insert(mapping.external_port) {
+                    duplicates.insert(mapping.external_port);
+                }
+            }
+            ingress
+                .port_mappings
+                .iter()
+                .map(|mapping| mapping.external_port)
+                .find(|port| duplicates.contains(port))
         }) {

Returning directly when seen.insert fails would change which duplicate is reported. The two-pass HashSet version keeps the current result and runs in O(n).

Replace the repeated full-list counting in the ingress duplicate check within
the policy validation method with a linear HashSet-based check. Preserve the
current behavior of reporting the first duplicated external port in list order,
rather than returning whichever duplicate is encountered first.

…checks

TCP and UDP on one host port are distinct gvproxy forwards, so only a
repeat on the same transport is a duplicate. Moving the static mapping
checks into validate_port_mappings brings validate_policy back under
clippy too_many_lines, and the duplicate scan is a single HashSet pass.
