fix(mctx): attribute missing read-only patch source errors - #1739
norrietaylor merged 5 commits into
Conversation
A task whose read-only patch source does not exist on the host fails at spawn with a bare "fs mapping" I/O error naming only the expanded path. Attribute it to the declaration and its owner, and stop claiming in tasks.md that a missing path is created.

Two declarations such as
~/.cfgand/home/user/.cfgcan expand to the same host path.to_fs_mappingschecks both mappings in declaration order, but thisBTreeMapkeeps the later declaration. If the first read-only mapping is missing, the error can therefore name the later declaration and owner.Use a first-entry-wins lookup that matches

Two declared patch paths that expand to the same host path (for example ~/.cfg and /home/user/.cfg) collapsed to the last one processed, which does not match the declaration order to_fs_mappings uses. Fold into the map with entry().or_insert() so the first declaration wins.

A directory mapping and a file mapping can expand to the same host path. Config::validate creates a missing read-write directory first, so a later file mapping at that path fails as "directory mapped as a file" — but resolving declarations by expanded path alone named the directory's declaration, not the file's. Keep every declaration that shares an expanded path, tagged with is_file/read_only, and pick the one that matches the specific Config::validate check behind the error's op string, falling back to the first declaration when nothing narrows it (the common case of one declaration per path).

A task whose read-only patch source (
patches.dir/patches.filewith modero) does not exist on the host fails at spawn with a barefs mappingI/O error naming only the expanded path — neither the task nor the patch declaration. This change attributes that error to the declaration and its owner (package or task), and correctsdocs/reference/tasks.md, which still claimed a missing path is created.Verification
