Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; 1 finding(s) above severity 'nit' rule out APPROVE.
Scope matches the title: two spike records for the box-networking plan (SP1 macOS loopback alias, SP2 cohort cgroup classifier) plus their artifacts — eight new files under docs/spikes/, no code or spec changes, as both docs state.
Clobber none: every file in the diff is new; git log on the touched paths shows no recent fix reverted.
Correctness I verified the factual claims rather than taking them on faith. Every code citation in both docs checks out against the tree and the pinned hakoniwa rev 0810ffa (cloned and read): the ordering hazard is real — the child unshares all namespaces in one unshare() (runc.rs:126 → runc/unshare.rs:30, Namespace::Cgroup => CLONE_NEWCGROUP confirmed in unshare/namespace.rs), and the parent's cgroup placement (command.rs:466, scope named hakoniwa.slice:hakoniwa:<pid> keyed by pid, cgroups.rs:40) happens only after; sandbox2 cpu_weight/booted_with_systemd (lib.rs:701/1121) and the unconditional Cgroup-namespace unshare (lib.rs:506); NetworkMode::HostNet → sandbox2::HostNet → NetPlan::host(); the rpc.rs:2959 egress rejection on HostNet; the net/policy.rs/dns.rs/proxy.rs 127.0.0.1 hard-coding; scripts/install.sh userns remediation; and "guest daemon is pid 1" (build-initramfs.sh). All GitHub references resolve: 1453/1454 are the SP1/SP2 spikes, 1470=T10, 1471=T11, 1482=T38, 1492=T40 (dynamic ingress), 1494=T22 — so the SP2 doc's action item 8 genuinely corrects the plan's assumption line, which does say "T38 and T40 narrow" (issue #1454 body). Committed artifacts reproduce exactly inside the markdown, pass sh -n/py_compile, and the plist is well-formed XML; the spike-directory naming matches the plan's deliverable paths. One real defect found: the loopback alias script's idempotency guard never matches (finding below).
Not checked: anything needing a build or a macOS / Linux-6.17 host — the measured transcripts (nft counters, bind timings, domain threaded behavior, browser/resolver behavior) are experimental records I cannot reproduce here; the macOS re-add error text (SIOCAIFADDR: File exists) is asserted from platform knowledge, not measured.
What ran
10 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. sh -n on dev.minimal.loopback.sh and verify-after-reboot.sh — exit 0 · self-reported
Both scripts are syntactically valid sh.
2. python3 -m py_compile bind-probe.py — exit 0 · self-reported
bind-probe.py compiles.
3. xml parse of dev.minimal.loopback.plist — exit 0 · self-reported
plist is well-formed XML (plutil unavailable on Linux).
4. Extract fenced blocks from 2026-09-22-macos-loopback-alias.md and diff against committed files — exit 0 · self-reported
All five artifacts (plist, script, resolver, probe, verify script) match their markdown reproductions byte-for-byte.
5. Reproduce the case-pattern guard: present=$(printf '127.0.0.1\n127.0.64.1\n...'); case " $present " in *" $addr "*) — exit 0 · self-reported
With newline-separated present (as awk '{print $2}' emits), the guard prints NO MATCH even for an address present in the list; with space-separated present it matches. The idempotency check is dead code.
6. git clone souk4711/hakoniwa + checkout 0810ffa; read runc.rs, unshare.rs, namespace.rs, notify.rs, command.rs, cgroups.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
Verified the ordering hazard, CLONE_NEWCGROUP mapping, single-unshare-then-notify sequence, and pid-keyed scope name; citations accurate (doc cites runc.rs:124, actual call at :126).
7. Read sandbox2 lib.rs:506/701/1121, sessions lib.rs:32, minimald net/provider.rs:30, sandbox2 network.rs:266, minimal autospawn.rs:400, minimald rpc.rs:2959 — exit 0 · self-reported
All tree citations in both docs verified accurate.
8. curl api.github.com for issues 1437/1453/1454/1470/1471/1482/1492/1494 — exit 0 · self-reported
All referenced issues exist with matching titles; #1454's assumption line does say 'T38 and T40 narrow', so the SP2 doc's correction is real; #1492 is dynamic ingress, unrelated to narrowing.
9. rg NET-078/079/080/122/123/003 in docs/specs/18-spec-box-networking.md — exit 0 · self-reported
Requirement numbers and the open question both docs reference exist with matching text.
10. rg apparmor_restrict_unprivileged_userns scripts/install.sh — exit 0 · self-reported
The cgroup doc's claim that install.sh remediates the userns restriction is accurate.

Scope matches the title: two spike records for the box-networking plan (SP1 macOS loopback alias, SP2 cohort cgroup classifier) plus the SP1 artifacts (plist, alias script, resolver file, bind probe, install/verify scripts). Docs-only; the second commit (f0c01f2) records the SP1 root-install run and fixes install.sh's too-early checks. Clobber none: git log --oneline -5 -- docs/spikes/ shows only the two new commits; no recent work reverted. Correctness I verified every code-tree citation in both docs against the tree and all check out: cpu_weight/booted_with_systemd/.unshare(Namespace::Cgroup) in crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs:701/1121/506, NetworkMode::HostNet at crates/sessions/src/lib.rs:32 mapped at crates/minimald/src/net/provider.rs:30, minimald run --detach --instance-num 0 in crates/minimal/src/autospawn.rs, the HostNet-egress rejection in crates/minimald/src/rpc.rs, and for SP1 expose_request's 127.0.0.1 literal (net/policy.rs:104), the LOOPBACK const and register_host_net/register_own_ip (net/dns.rs:47/140/152), and bind_listener (net/proxy.rs:157). All four scripts pass sh -n/py_compile; I simulated the alias script's idempotency and count logic and they are sound; the committed artifacts match the docs' 'reproduced here in full' reproductions byte-for-byte, and both docs follow the existing spike structure (2026-06-20-wireguard-implementation.md). No secrets in the diff (gitleaks hits are in the untracked local .minimal/minimal.toml, not the PR), no dependency changes. The two technically notable points — LaunchOnlyOnce meaning a partial alias install is not retried until the next reboot, and the launchctl bootstrap race in install.sh — are already raised by the open coderabbit threads on dev.minimal.loopback.plist:15 and install.sh:8; the second commit already mitigates the race (sleep 2 plus switching the evidence from launchd state to the daemon's own log line), and the doc's own probe design treats a partial range as 'absent' so the interim covers the window. The two coderabbit threads on the cohort doc are already answered by the doc itself (Finding B + action item 6 cover the rule-rewrite-vs-move point; Findings D and H cover delegation). Not checked: hakoniwa's internal ordering claims (runc.rs:124, command.rs:466 — it is a pinned git dependency not checked out here), shellcheck (not installed; sh -n passed), and the reboot/three-browser root run, which needs a person with root by design.

Verification log
1. rg -n 'cpu_weight|booted_with_systemd' crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
Both SP2 citations verified at exactly the cited lines: cpu_weight at 701, booted_with_systemd fn at 1121.
2. rg -n 'Namespace::Cgroup|unshare' crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs; rg HostNet in sessions/provider — exit 0 · self-reported
.unshare(hakoniwa::Namespace::Cgroup) at lib.rs:506 with IgnoreCgroupSetupFailed; NetworkMode::HostNet at sessions/src/lib.rs:32 mapped to sandbox2::HostNet at net/provider.rs:30 — all as the doc claims.
3. rg -n 'instance-num|detach' crates/minimal/src/autospawn.rs; rg egress in rpc.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
autospawn.rs:405 .args(["run", "--detach", "--instance-num", "0"]); rpc.rs rejects 'egress policy is only valid for an own-IP PTask, not HostNet' near line 2959.
4. rg -n 'LOOPBACK|expose_request|bind_listener' crates/minimald/src/net/{dns,policy,proxy}.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
SP1 citations all present: dns.rs:47 LOOPBACK const + register_host_net:140/register_own_ip:152; policy.rs expose_request builds local '127.0.0.1:{port}'; proxy.rs:157 bind_listener.
5. sh -n install.sh dev.minimal.loopback.sh verify-after-reboot.sh; python3 -m py_compile bind-probe.py — exit 0 · self-reported
All four scripts syntactically valid; bind-probe compiles.
6. python3 simulation of alias-script idempotency and count logic — self-reported
The 'case $present ' substring match has no prefix collision (127.0.64.1 vs 127.0.64.10 distinguished by spaces) and the count filter index($2,p)==1 is correct.
7. gitleaks detect --no-git --source .; rg secret patterns in .review/pr.diff — exit 0 · self-reported
gitleaks reports 2 hits, both in the untracked local .minimal/minimal.toml (not part of this PR); the diff itself is clean. Manual rg over pr.diff matches only the word 'password' in prose about sudo prompts.
8. git show f0c01f2; git show 13953ea:.../install.sh; git log --oneline -5 -- docs/spikes/ — exit 0 · self-reported
Second commit adds the SP1 root-install section and the sleep 2 + launchctl-print/log-line evidence fix to install.sh; the original first-commit install.sh indeed checked immediately after bootstrap, matching the doc's account of the race. No recent spike work clobbered.
9. Diff committed artifact files against the doc's embedded reproductions — self-reported
dev.minimal.loopback.plist, dev.minimal.loopback.sh, min.internal, bind-probe.py and verify-after-reboot.sh in docs/spikes/2026-09-22-macos-loopback-alias/ are byte-identical to the code fences in the SP1 doc's Artifacts section; install.sh matches the doc's 'Left for a person with root' command list.
10. Read threads.json and compare against doc content — self-reported
Two coderabbit threads on the cohort doc (rule-rewrite for established sockets at :206, delegation at :358) are already answered by the doc's Finding B/action item 6 and Findings D/H; the plist LaunchOnlyOnce thread and the install.sh race thread are real and remain open, so I did not re-raise them.

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; 2 finding(s) above severity 'nit' rule out APPROVE.
Scope is mostly the two spike records plus their artifacts, but the PR also carries a CI change (commit 51de7df adds .github/workflows/ci-kani.yml to the ci-linux-native path filter) whose own comment rests on a test that does not exist in this PR — finding 2. Clobber none: git log on the workflow file and the spike directory shows no recent fix reverted. Correctness two findings below: a committed bytecode cache under __pycache__/, and a workflow comment citing crates/minimal/tests/kani_workflow.rs, a file present only on the unmerged origin/chore/ci-kani-bep-filter branch. The two spike documents themselves are careful, internally consistent, and their code-symbol claims (expose_request, LOOPBACK/register_host_net/register_own_ip, bind_listener, sandbox2 lib.rs:506/1121, the SP2 with_cpu_weight-never-called claim) all verified against the tree. The already-resolved thread on dev.minimal.loopback.sh's idempotency guard is respected and not re-raised. Not checked: anything requiring a build; the SP2 doc's hakoniwa source line references are unverifiable here since the pinned checkout is not in the tree.

Verification log
1. file + ls docs/spikes/2026-09-22-macos-loopback-alias/__pycache__/answerer.cpython-314.pyc; git check-ignore — exit 0 · self-reported
Committed bytecode cache confirmed: 4041 bytes, CPython 3.14 magic 3627, timestamp of the source run. git check-ignore exits 1 — .gitignore has no pycache/*.pyc rule, so the file slipped in on a wide add 8000 .
2. rg -l 'kani_workflow' across tree (excluding target, .git) — exit 0 · self-reported
Only .github/workflows/ci-linux-native.yml and .review/pr.diff match; crates/minimal/tests/ at HEAD contains bug.rs, cli.rs, common, git_remote.rs — no kani_workflow.rs.
3. git log --all --oneline -- crates/minimal/tests/kani_workflow.rs; git branch -a --contains dd09011 — exit 0 · self-reported
Single commit dd09011 creates the file, and it is contained only by remotes/origin/chore/ci-kani-bep-filter.
4. git merge-base --is-ancestor dd09011 HEAD; git show cb384e3:crates/minimal/tests/kani_workflow.rs — exit 1 · self-reported
dd09011 is not an ancestor of HEAD and the file does not exist at base cb384e3 (show exits 128), so the test cited by the workflow comment is absent from both this PR and its base.
5. git show 51de7df --stat; git show dd09011:crates/minimal/tests/kani_workflow.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
51de7df (in this PR's range) adds only the ci-linux-native filter entry; dd09011's test asserts ci-kani.yml names 'crates/bep/**', which this PR's ci-kani.yml does not contain — the referenced guard asserts a filter this tree lacks.
6. git diff f0c01f2 HEAD -- docs/spikes/2026-09-22-macos-loopback-alias/dev.minimal.loopback.sh — exit 0 · self-reported
Empty diff: the idempotency-guard shape on line 17 is unchanged since f0c01f2; the finding about it is already covered by a resolved thread in threads.json, so it is not re-raised.
7. grep -rn 'with_cpu_weight' crates/; sed -n 460,470p crates/op/src/specs.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
Only the definition (sandbox2 config.rs:494) and one conditional caller (op/src/specs.rs:330) where SpecBuild::cpu_weight is always constructed as None (specs.rs:468, patched.rs:66); the SP2 doc's 'nothing calls it, every sandbox stays in the daemon's cgroup' holds in effect.
8. rg secret scan over docs/spikes/2026-09-22-* (api[_-]?key|secret|password|token|private key patterns) — exit 0 · self-reported
No credentials; the 'password' hits are prose about the sudo prompt. gitleaks binary not present in the sandbox.
9. rg -n net symbols claimed by SP1 doc (expose_request, LOOPBACK, register_host_net, register_own_ip, bind_listener); sandbox2 lib.rs lines — exit 0 · self-reported
All symbols exist; expose_request hard-codes 127.0.0.1:<external_port> as documented; sandbox2 refs at lib.rs:506 and 1121 are exact, 701 is off by one (booted_with_systemd at 702).
10. git log --oneline -15 -- .github/workflows/ci-linux-native.yml — exit 0 · self-reported
Latest change is 51de7df (this PR); the preceding entries are dependency-group bumps and the R2-mirror routing change — nothing reverted.

SP1 (#1453), macOS loopback alias: partial. Measured the interim state (EADDRNOTAVAIL on every 127.0.64.0/24 address, connect times out instead of refusing), confirmed a root LaunchDaemon is the only boot re-apply route, timed 254 alias calls under 0.4 s, and drafted the plist, script and resolver file. The root install, reboot and three-browser check are left for a person and listed with exact commands. SP2 (#1454), cohort cgroup classifier: proved on Linux 6.17 / nft 1.1.5. A per-box cgroup leaf matched by `socket cgroupv2` gives each host-address box its own egress verdict without a network namespace; the daemon must be a sibling leaf, a box must enter its leaf before its cgroupns unshare, and the ruleset needs CAP_NET_ADMIN. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Record the install run: 254 aliases on lo0, every range address binds, resolver registered on port 15353. The job is LaunchO 8BD0 nlyOnce, so launchd drops it after it exits; the scripts now wait for the ifconfig calls and read the daemon's log line instead of launchd state. Reboot pending. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A workflow-only change to ci-kani.yml decides which pull requests run the proofs, and no other lane's path filter names that file, so no lane runs the workspace suite on it. Trigger the native lane on that file, so a guard test over the kani filter has a lane that executes it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… load by name After the reboot all 254 range addresses were back on lo0 24 s after the kernel started; two boxes on one port at two range addresses loaded by name in Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Adds the stand-in answerer and records the finding that a scoped answerer whose negative replies carry no SOA stalls every DNS lookup on the host; SOA-bearing negatives fixed it. Compare
Running the stand-in answerer left docs/spikes/2026-09-22-macos-loopback-alias/__pycache__/answerer.cpython-314.pyc beside it, and a wide `git add` swept it into the spike commit. The doc's Artifacts section lists answerer.py alone; the bytecode is an accidental artifact. Delete it and ignore __pycache__/ and *.pyc, so the repo's other Python helpers cannot leak one the same way. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The comment cited crates/minimal/tests/kani_workflow.rs as the workspace test that asserts the Kani lane's path filter. That file exists only on the unmerged branch behind #1537, not here, not in this branch's base and not on main, so the frozen workflow documented a test a reader cannot find. State the standing reason instead: the filter entry exists so a guard over the kani filter has a lane that runs it. Comment only; the filter entry is unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Two claims in the cgr 10000 oup-classifier spike read as measured and are not. Finding B measured only that a socket keeps the cgroup it was created in, so moving a process cannot reach its open flows. That rewriting the leaf's rule does reach them is an inference: test E rewrote the ruleset and then opened new connections, never a live one. Say so, note that a rewrite is not one outcome either (a drop blackholes until the peer's retransmit timeout, a reject refuses per packet), and give action item 6 the experiment that would settle it. Conclusion (a) offered a root-created and chowned cgroup as the layout on a host with no user manager. Finding H measured the systemd-delegated subtree and D2 ran in a tree chowned by hand; neither says who creates that root, who delegates it, or what happens across a reboot. Mark it unverified and add an action item to settle it or scope the native classifier to hosts whose user manager delegates a subtree. Findings, ruleset and counters are unchanged; only what the document claims they prove. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The spike's plist is `LaunchOnlyOnce` and its by-hand install waits a fixed two seconds. Both were fine for one measured run and neither is right for the advisory T10 ships: launchd will not retry a partial alias apply until the next boot, so one failed `ifconfig` leaves the range short for the whole session, and `launchctl bootstrap` returns before the helper finishes, which is why the first install run read 0 aliases. Record both as action items on T10, with the retry policy and the bounded poll they call for. The artifacts stay as installed and rebooted: they are the record of the run the document reports, and sections 6 and 7 read launchd's launch-once behaviour as evidence. Scope matches the title and body: two spike records (SP1 macOS loopback alias, SP2 cgroup classifier), the SP1 artifacts committed beside the doc, plus a .gitignore rule for __pycache__/*.pyc and a one-entry ci-linux-native path-filter addition for .github/workflows/ci-kani.yml. 1445 insertions, 11 files, all new except two small edits; no dependency or lockfile movement.
Clobber none: git log on both edited files shows no recent fix reverted; the pycache file that was deleted in 8f92feb is absent from the tree and the ignore rule is present and works.
Correctness I verified every code citation in both docs against the tree and, for the pinned hakoniwa rev (0810ffa3), against the upstream source at that rev. All check out: sandbox2 lib.rs:701/1121/506, sessions HostNet (lib.rs:32), provider.rs:30, network.rs:266, rpc.rs:2959, autospawn.rs:400, and the SP1 'code touched' claims (policy.rs:expose_request 127.0.0.1 literal, dns.rs LOOPBACK const, proxy.rs:bind_listener); hakoniwa cgroups/manager.rs:15 (pid-keyed hakoniwa.slice:hakoniwa:<pid>), runc.rs:124/127, runc/notify.rs:20, command.rs:466 (placement after the cgroup-namespace unshare). The reserved range and NET-122/123 semantics match 18-spec-box-networking.md. Two findings below: the loopback alias script's idempotency guard can never match (contradicting the record's own claims and action item 10's retry rationale), and the SP2 doc's 'every sandbox stays in the daemon's own cgroup' is contradicted by the local build backend, which sets cpu_weight on every build.
Not checked (needs the actual hosts, not a build): the kernel/nftables experimental claims in SP2 phases 1-3 (domain-threaded cgroup behavior on 6.17, socket cgroupv2 match semantics) and SP1's reboot-timing and browser measurements; the doc already separates measured from inferred for the former. I did not compile anything.
What ran
7 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. rg citations in crates/sandbox2, sessions, minimald, minimal — exit 0 · self-reported
sandbox2 lib.rs:701 (cpu_weight guard), :1121 (booted_with_systemd), :506 (Cgroup unshare); sessions lib.rs:32 HostNet; provider.rs:30 HostNet->sandbox2::HostNet; rpc.rs:2959 egress-on-HostNet rejection; autospawn.rs:400 minimald run --detach --instance-num 0. All match the SP2 doc's citations.
2. curl pinned hakoniwa sources; checked lines — exit 0 · self-reported
Fetched hakoniwa rev 0810ffa3 from GitHub (manager.rs, runc.rs, runc/notify.rs, command.rs, runc/unshare.rs). manager.rs:15 names hakoniwa.slice:hakoniwa:{id}; cgroups.rs:49 keys it by pid; runc.rs:124->unshare.rs:30 unshares all namespaces, :127->notify.rs:20 asks parent, command.rs:466 does cgroup setup after the unshare. Every citation in the SP2 doc's 'What the tree does today' section is accurate.
3. POSIX sh case-pattern test (dash) — exit 0 · self-reported
Replicated the guard with newline-separated addresses:
case " $present " in *" $addr "*)never matches any address, including the last one. The idempotency guard in dev.minimal.loopback.sh is confirmed broken at HEAD.
4. rg -n cpu_weight crates/; read local_backend.rs + specs.rs — exit 0 · self-reported
crates/orchestrator/src/local_backend.rs:221 sets cpu_weight: Some(...) on every local build; crates/op/src/specs.rs:329-330 applies it via with_cpu_weight into the sandbox2 cgroup path (lib.rs:701). On a systemd host build sandboxes are moved into a pid-keyed transient scope, contradicting the SP2 doc's 'every sandbox stays in the daemon's own cgroup'.
5. git diff cb384e3..HEAD | grep -E '(secret|token|password|PRIVATE KEY)' — exit 0 · self-reported
No secrets in the diff; only prose mentions of the root password prompt. Also confirmed no committed pycache/*.pyc and that the .gitignore rules are live.
6. rg '127.0.64|NET-122|NET-123|NET-010' docs/specs/18-spec-box-networking — exit 0 · self-reported
Spec reserves 127.0.64.0/24 (line 732), NET-122 advisory, NET-123 bind probe and 127.0.0.1 interim all match the SP1 doc's claims.
7. grep -rn 'ci-kani.yml' .github/workflows/ — exit 0 · self-reported
Only ci-linux-native (the new entry) and ci-kani.yml itself name the file, so the new filter entry is not redundant with another lane. No guard test over the filter exists in this tree; the comment's wording is aspirational and was already reworded from the version the prior thread flagged.

The guard built `present` with awk's `print`, one address per line, and then tested `case " $present " in *" $addr "*`, which only matches an address bounded by spaces. Nothing ever matched, so every run re-issued all 254 `ifconfig lo0 alias` calls and `added=` counted them all. Confirmed under /bin/sh and dash with a replica: not even an address that is present, and not the last one, which the wrapper's trailing space touches. Build `present` space-separated with `printf "%s "` instead. Verified under both shells that each present address now skips and that 127.0.64.9 does not false-match 127.0.64.99. Inert for what the spike measured: both recorded runs started with no range alias on lo0, so every address took the alias branch either way and added=254 present=254/254 is what the broken guard and the fixed one both produce. The claims that rest on it are not inert, so the artifact is fixed rather than left as a trap: the script header's idempotence line, and action item 10's throttled retry, which is only safe because a re-run adds just the missing aliases. The Artifacts section records the correction. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Two more places where the cgroup-classifier spike says more than it should. "No sandbox is in a cgroup of its own" is true of box and session sandboxes and false of builds: crates/orchestrator sets cpu_weight on every local build (local_backend.rs:221, applied at op/src/specs.rs:329), which is exactly the sandbox2 path the bullet cites three lines earlier, so on a systemd host each build sandbox does get a pid-keyed transient scope. Scope the claim and name the exception, which is also the path Conclusion (a) already rules out for this tree. Conclusion (a) named the native root `.../user@<uid>.service/minimald/` while finding H created `.../minimald.slice`. Use the measured path, note that the suffix is the experiment's name rather than a requirement, and say that L — the depth every socket cgroupv2 match renders — follows from whatever T38 settles on. Verdict APPROVE — APPROVE: all personas completed and nothing survives above severity 'nit' (2 finding(s) kept).
Scope matches the title: two spike records (SP1/SP2) with supporting artifacts, a .gitignore bytecode rule, and a ci-linux-native path-filter addition. All six fix commits for the earlier review threads are in the head.
Clobber none: git log --oneline -15 shows only this PR's commits on top of base cb384e31; no recent work is reverted.
Correctness I verified the substantive claims and found them accurate. Every code citation in the SP2 doc checks out against the tree (crates/sandbox2/src/lib.rs:701/:506/:1121, crates/sessions/src/lib.rs:32, crates/minimald/src/net/provider.rs:30, rpc.rs:2959, crates/minimal/src/autospawn.rs:400, crates/orchestrator/src/local_backend.rs:221, crates/op/src/specs.rs:329, policy.rs/dns.rs/proxy.rs). The SP1 doc's numbers are internally consistent (6 probes 0.11 ms; 254 invocations 0.378 s; install log 143946 s vs dry-run 143020 s differ by exactly the wall-clock gap; post-reboot since_boot=24s matches boot time 00:43:30 + log 07:43:54Z at UTC+7). The fixed dev.minimal.loopback.sh idempotency guard is now correct (space-separated present, case " $present " in *" $addr "*) matches whole tokens only; I traced .1 vs .10). answerer.py's replies are wire-correct for every case the doc claims — A answer with compression pointer 0xc00c, NODATA and NXDOMAIN both carrying the SOA, and header 0x8580 decodes to exactly qr aa rd ra as the doc reports. The four embedded artifacts (plist, script, resolver file, bind-probe) diff byte-for-byte against the committed files. The ci-linux-native comment is accurate: no other lane's filter names ci-kani.yml, and a change to that workflow re-runs the Kani lane itself. The ten existing review threads are all resolved and none of their points are re-raised here.
Two nits below, both doc-consistency in the SP1 artifacts section. Not checked: hakoniwa's runc.rs/notify.rs line references (external pinned checkout, not in this tree), the dig interaction described for the uncommitted watchdog answerer, and the plan's T-number↔issue mappings.

Section 6 records the alias count, the daemon log line and the probe count as the "applied immediately" evidence, and the probe count is what separated the too-early first check (probe 1) from the correct one (254). install.sh stopped at the log, so someone following it alone got no probe result. Add the probe line the procedure block already carries; the two now agree apart from the launchctl print that install.sh keeps and comments, and that section 6 quotes. The Artifacts preamble claimed every file was reproduced in full while two of the seven were not. Name the five that are embedded and say where the other two sit. install.sh is the command list under "The root procedure, as run", and answerer.py is described rather than shown, being a stand-in for T9's answerer rather than part of the mechanism under test. Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; 1 finding(s) above severity 'nit' rule out APPROVE.
Scope matches the title, with two extras that each trace to events inside the PR. The .gitignore bytecode rule is justified: an early commit of this PR accidentally swept in answerer.cpython-314.pyc, removed in 8f92febf. The ci-linux-native.yml path-filter addition is a docs-PR edit to a CODEOWNER-gated workflow, but it is small, commented, and its rationale checks out: ci-kani.yml exists on this branch, its own lane filter already names the file, and no other lane's paths-filter names it (verified by grep across all workflows); the added entry makes a workflow-only Kani-filter change re-run the required native workspace suite. The file's git history shows both commits touching it (4b104044, e28ab5dd) are this PR's own. Clobber none: git log on both edited files shows no reverted fix. Correctness strong. I spot-verified nine in-tree line citations in the cgroup doc (sandbox2 lib.rs:701/1121/506, orchestrator local_backend.rs:221, op specs.rs:329, sessions lib.rs:32, minimald provider.rs:30/rpc.rs:2959, sandbox2 network.rs:266, minimal autospawn.rs:400) and all three in the macOS doc (policy.rs, dns.rs, proxy.rs); all match, except the rpc.rs:2959 citation discussed below. All five artifacts embedded in the macOS doc are byte-identical to the committed files (no drift). Shell scripts trace correctly (the skip-guard fix from a05be06b is present and sound; the count awk cannot over-count; [ "$count" -eq 254 ] gives the right exit code); both Python scripts pass ast.parse; no secrets in the diff; no stray .pyc remains and git check-ignore confirms the new patterns. All 12 prior review threads are resolved, and none of my findings re-raises one. Not checked: hakoniwa's namespace/cgroup ordering claims (runc.rs:124, cgroups/manager.rs:15) — that is a pinned external checkout absent from this tree — and the kernel 6.17 / nftables / launchd behavioral claims, which would need a build or a real host. Both findings below are minor and new.

The HostNet bullet pointed at crates/minimald/src/rpc.rs:2959, which is an assert_eq! inside the #[cfg(test)] module that starts at rpc.rs:1748. Every other citation in that section points at implementation, so a T38 reader following this one lands on a test. Name PTask::validate_policy and the PolicyError::EgressRequiresOwnIp it returns (crates/sessions/src/lib.rs:486), keeping the RPC test as the assertion over it. Scope matches the title: two spike records (SP1 macOS loopback alias, SP2 cgroup classifier) with their artifacts, plus a ci-linux-native path-filter entry for ci-kani.yml and a .gitignore rule for CPython bytecode. Nothing outside that intent. Clobber none: git log on ci-linux-native.yml and the head commit shows no revert of recent work; the workflow filter entry is a new line atop commit 4b10404, and the .github/workflows/ freeze is respected (no edits to other workflows). Correctness this is a record-heavy PR and I verified the records: every code citation in both docs is accurate against the tree — sandbox2 lib.rs:701/1121/506, sessions lib.rs:32/486, minimald net/provider.rs:30, net/policy.rs expose_request, net/dns.rs LOOPBACK/register_host_net/register_own_ip, net/proxy.rs bind_listener, minimal autospawn.rs:400, op specs.rs:329, orchestrator local_backend.rs:221 — and the hakoniwa citations were checked against the exact pinned rev 0810ffa (fetched the checkout): runc.rs:124 is the single unshare, :127 the parent-notify, notify.rs:20 sets SETUP_CGROUPS, command.rs:466 is the parent's cgroup placement, cgroups/manager.rs:15 is the pid-keyed transient-scope name; the ordering-hazard claim (unshare before cgroup placement) holds. The five artifacts embedded in the SP1 doc byte-match their committed files (diffed plist, min.internal, loopback.sh, bind-probe.py, verify-after-reboot.sh). I ran the fixed dev.minimal.loopback.sh guard under /bin/sh (space-separated present matches and is substring-safe), and ran answerer.py against real queries (A -> one answer, AAAA -> NODATA with SOA, unknown -> NXDOMAIN with SOA, _dns.resolver.arpa SVCB -> NXDOMAIN) — all match the doc's section 9 claims. gitleaks is clean; no dependency moves. One finding, a doc-internal arithmetic inconsistency in the SP1 timing extrapolation. Not checked anything needing a build (none was required); the one detail I could not adjudicate without a live kernel is the SP2 phase-1 record of sendto returning EPERM under what was nominally a drop rule — a drop in the output hook silently discards, so EPERM implies the phase-2 reject rule was live when that fetch ran, but the run ordering is presented non-linearly (finding C already admits E's rule was in place for box-a), so I could not call it a defect.

3. diff the five artifacts embedded in the SP1 doc against the committed files — self-reported
dev.minimal.loopback.plist, min.internal, dev.minimal.loopback.sh, bind-probe.py, verify-after-reboot.sh all byte-identical to their committed counterparts; the artifacts claim in the doc is now exact.
4. Ran docs/spikes/2026-09-22-macos-loopback-alias/answerer.py locally and queried it with A, AAAA, NXDOMAIN and SVCB(DDR) packets — self-reported
Responses well-formed and matching the doc's section 9 claims: a.min.internal A -> 1 answer/rcode 0; AAAA -> empty NOERROR with 1 SOA in authority; unknown -> NXDOMAIN (rcode 3) with SOA; _dns.resolver.arpa SVCB -> NXDOMAIN. Flags 0x8580 (QR AA RD).

The new comment's 'no 8 other l 10BC8 ane's filter names that file' is accurate: only ci-kani.yml's own filter (line 65) and the new ci-linux-native.yml entry (line 89) list it. The reworded comment cites no nonexistent test.
8. git log --oneline for ci-linux-native.yml, .gitignore and the head commit — self-reported
No silent revert: the filter entry sits atop 4b10404, the .gitignore change is new, the head f81df20 is a doc citation fix; the pycache file from the earlier commit is gone (7 files in the spike dir, no pycache).
9. python3 arithmetic check of the SP1 timing extrapolation — self-reported
6 probes in 0.11 ms (doc line 104) is 18.3 us/probe, which extrapolates to ~4.7 ms for 254 binds, not 'under 2 ms'; the doc's own measured 256-probe run (line 392) took 2.53 ms.

Tell it when it is wrong. 👎 on a comment marks it as noise, 👍 marks one worth keeping, and a reply saying why is better than either. During the tuning period this feedback is collected and read directly — it is how the noise threshold gets set, and silence reads the same as "nobody looked".
"Under 2 ms extrapolated" was below both numbers the document prints. Section 1's six probes took 0.11 ms, 18 us each, which puts 254 binds near 5 ms, and section 7's post-reboot run measured 2.53 ms over 256 addresses with the range up. Quote the measured figure in the section-1 sentence and in action item 2. The conclusion it supports, that probing the whole range at session start is affordable and NET-123 should cover every address, is what the 2.53 ms shows. Scope matches the title and body: two spike records (SP1 macOS loopback alias, SP2 cgroup classifier) with their committed support files, plus a .gitignore addition for CPython bytecode and a ci-linux-native path-filter entry for the Kani workflow. All changes trace to the PR's stated intent. Clobber none: git log on every changed path shows only this PR's commits (no revert of recent work; the prior ci-linux-native history is unrelated dependency bumps). Correctness this is a docs-and-experiment-record PR, so I verified the claims that are checkable against the tree rather than the prose. Every source citation in the cgroup doc's "What the tree does today" section checks out against the current tree: sandbox2 cpu_weight/booted_with_systemd/cgroup-ns-unshare lines (lib.rs:701/1121/506), NetworkMode::HostNet (sessions lib.rs:32), NetPlan::host() (sandbox2 network.rs:266), the HostNet egress rejection at PTask::validate_policy (sessions lib.rs:486), the daemon spawn (minimal autospawn.rs:400), and the build-side cpu_weight path (orchestrator local_backend.rs:221, op specs.rs:329, with_cpu_weight called nowhere in minimald/sessions/mip). The macOS doc's "Code touched" pointers (expose_request, LOOPBACK/register_host_net/register_own_ip, bind_listener) are accurate, as are the AppArmor/userns install-script references. Internal numeric/logical consistency holds in both docs: the level-arithmetic in the cgroup ruleset (L, L+1, L+2) matches phases 1 and G; the reboot timing (boot 00:43:30, since_boot=24s, log 00:43:54) is consistent; the 256-probe/2.53 ms and 18 us-per-probe figures agree with the fix in 7086ac35. The committed scripts lint clean (sh -n, py_compile) and the fixed idempotency guard actually skips present aliases (re-tested the case pattern). No committed bytecode remains (the on-disk __pycache__ is untracked and now covered by the new .gitignore rules; git check-ignore confirms). No secrets in the diff. The ten prior review threads all resolved with real fixes, and the items left standing (LaunchOnlyOnce retry, the sleep 2 install wait) are deliberately recorded as action items 10/11 on T10 rather than defects. I dropped two borderline items as re-raises of resolved threads or nits on an explicitly-stand-in artifact: the ci-linux-native comment's "a guard test over that filter" phrase (no such test exists in the tree, but that exact comment is the subject of a resolved thread whose author chose this wording) and answerer.py answering the out-of-zone DDR probe _dns.resolver.arpa with min.internal.'s SOA (a stand-in, explicitly not the real answerer, and its measured behavior is what the doc records). Not checked: the hakoniwa-pinned-checkout line numbers (runc.rs:124, cgroups/manager.rs:15, etc.) — the checkout is fetched at build time and not in this tree — the external issue links (T9/T10/T11/T38 numbers), and anything requiring a build.

Verification log
1. git log on changed files (docs/spikes, ci-linux-native.yml, .gitignore) — self-reported
Only this PR's commits appear on every changed path; no clobber of recent work. ci-linux-native history is unrelated dependabot bumps beneath the PR's two commits.
2. sed/grep the cgroup doc's source citations — exit 0 · self-reported
sandbox2 lib.rs:701 cpu_weight, :1121 booted_with_systemd, :506 cgroupns unshare, sessions lib.rs:32 HostNet, :486 EgressRequiresOwnIp, network.rs:266 NetPlan::host(), autospawn.rs:400, local_backend.rs:221, specs.rs:329 all match the tree.
3. grep -rn with_cpu_weight crates/ — exit 0 · self-reported
Called only from crates/op/src/specs.rs:330 (build path) and defined in sandbox2 config.rs; the doc's 'nothing in minimald/sessions/mip calls it' holds.
4. sed crates/minimald net policy.rs/dns.rs/proxy.rs citations — exit 0 · self-reported
expose_request hardcodes 127.0.0.1:external (policy.rs:108); register_host_net/register_own_ip both register LOOPBACK (dns.rs:140-153); bind_listener at proxy.rs:157. macOS doc accurate.
5. sh -n and py_compile on committed scripts — exit 0 · self-reported
dev.minimal.loopback.sh, verify-after-reboot.sh, bind-probe.py, answerer.py all compile/lint clean; bash -n also passes.
6. Re-test idempotency guard case pattern in sh — exit 0 · self-reported
With present space-separated via printf '%s ', the case guard correctly matches an already-present address (fixed version skips).
7. git ls-files and git check-ignore for bytecode — exit 1 · self-reported
No .pyc is tracked; the on-disk pycache is untracked and matches the new pycache/ and *.pyc rules. (The pyc files present were generated by my own py_compile run, not the PR.)
8. grep diff for credential patterns — exit 0 · self-reported
No tokens, keys, or private-key material anywhere in the diff.
9. Verify ci-kani.yml exists and its filter contents — exit 0 · self-reported
.github/workflows/ci-kani.yml exists; its own paths-filter includes .github/workflows/ci-kani.yml. No other workflow's filter names the file besides the one this PR adds.
10. Cross-check doc numbers (256 probes/2.53ms, 24s since boot, level arithmetic) — self-reported
Section 7 output 'total 256 probes in 2.53 ms' and '254' come from the two verify commands; boot 00:43:30 + 24s = 00:43:54 matches the log line; cgroup level L/L+1/L+2 consistent across phases 1, G and Conclusion (a).

Post-merge, from reading both spikes against gominimal/arch main. The arch side is done: gominimal/arch#78 carries the two rulings and gominimal/arch#79 (merged) folds the measured results into the networking design v0.8 — the NET spec's HIGH open question (macOS mechanism) and the MEDIUM one (cgroup layout, co-resident scope) can now close against it. Three corrections belong here, beside the record, for the tasks that inherit them:
Everything else checked out, including the committed alias script against its embedded copy. |
Two spike findings for the box networking plan, epic #1437.
SP1, macOS loopback alias (#1453): proved. A root LaunchDaemon installed by the advisory command re-applies the reserved range
127.0.64.0/24onlo0at boot: after a reboot all 254 addresses were present and bindable 24 s after the kernel started, before login. Two boxes published on the same port at two range addresses loaded by name in Safari, Chrome and Firefox through the scoped resolver. The127.0.0.1interim is a temporary per-host state; T10 and T11 keep their macOS half. Side finding: a scoped answerer whose negative replies carry no SOA stalls every DNS lookup on the Mac, scoped or not; SOA-bearing negatives fix it. That is a requirement on the answerer task. The plist, alias script, resolver file, probe, verify script and stand-in answerer are committed beside the doc.SP2, cohort cgroup classifier (#1454): proved on Linux 6.17 / nftables 1.1.5. A per-box cgroup leaf matched by
socket cgroupv2gives each host-address box its own egress verdict without a network namespace, with the daemon's own fetch as a sibling leaf. Three conditions: the daemon is a sibling leaf and never the root; a box enters its leaf before its cgroup-namespace unshare (hakoniwa does this in the wrong order today); the ruleset needsCAP_NET_ADMIN, so a native host needs a one-time privileged install step. Co-resident Linux host-address boxes stay in scope of NET-078 to NET-080.Each doc ends with action items against the spec and the plan tasks.
