Not much point to any of the profiles stuff as thats been ripped out, and anything remaining (for compatibility, so we log a warning) will probably be ripped out shortly
Sessions are interactive, so a large class of field reports — the TUI is garbled, lines wrap at the wrong column, resize does nothing (#950) — are claims about a terminal the bundle never described. `min bug` probed no isatty, no window size, and no tty device; triage had to ask the user. Three additions, all read-only and best-effort: - `host/terminal.json` records, per standard stream, whether it is a tty. That is the precondition `min attach` and the interactive prompts gate on, so it separates "ran under a pipe, a script, or CI" from a real terminal, and explains an attach that refused or a prompt nobody saw. - For each stream that is a tty, its device and its `TIOCGWINSZ` dimensions. Zero rows/columns are recorded rather than folded into `None`: "the terminal claims it has no rows" is the classic wrong-wrapping finding, not a failed read, and a size the user's window plainly is not says the resize never reached the pty. - `TERM_PROGRAM`, `TERM_PROGRAM_VERSION`, and `COLORTERM` join `TERM` in the verbatim env allowlist. Terminal.app, iTerm2, and Ghostty disagree about wide glyphs and truecolor while all reporting `xterm-256color`, so the termcap name alone does not identify the emulator. Each names a program, never the user or their work; the widening is exact-match, so a var that merely starts with the same letters stays masked. The probe is crate machinery like `system_info` — the mechanic in `diagnostics`, the archive path the CLI's policy. Its one caveat is inherent: it describes the terminal `min bug` itself ran on, which is the terminal that rendered wrong only when the user reports from the same window. Recording it beside the other host facts is what makes that judgeable instead of unasked. Locale vars (`LANG`, `LC_*`) stay masked. They would sharpen the same diagnosis — a mismatched charset garbles a TUI as thoroughly as a bad size — but unmasking them is a redaction-policy decision, not a collector's to make. Refs #950

Four items raised in self-review of the terminal capture, all valid: - `device_name` used `ttyname(3)`, whose buffer is a process-wide static on both glibc and musl — not per-thread as its SAFETY comment claimed. Two concurrent probes could each be handed the other's device. Switched to `ttyname_r`, which writes into a caller-owned buffer, and added a test that probes eight live ptys concurrently and compares against the uncontended answers. - The bundle test cited requirement `R2.3a`, which does not exist. The diagnostics spec is the authority for bundle contents and had never been extended for `host/terminal.json`, so add **R2.10** (appended, not inserted as R2.3a: the spec forbids renumbering after approval) with its proof artifact and traceability row, and cite it. - R2.4's allowlist had drifted from the code — it still omitted `TERM_PROGRAM`, `TERM_PROGRAM_VERSION`, and `COLORTERM`. Recorded those, the exact-match (not `TERM`-prefix) discipline, and the deliberate decision to leave `LANG`/`LC_*` masked. - `cli-min.md` described the capture as `TIOCGWINSZ` rows/columns; the serialized `WinSize` also carries `xpixel`/`ypixel`. `the_invoking_terminal_is_described` also asserted a tty always carries rows/cols, which would fail a tty whose `TIOCGWINSZ` fails rather than tolerate it. The probe is specified best-effort, so it now demands the size be well-formed when present rather than present at all. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Every other collector describes a machine, and a machine hosts many projects, so two bundles taken on one host from two checkouts read identically and the report lands on whichever project the reader guesses (#1211). `manifest.json` now carries a `project` field and `project/project.json` repeats it, alongside the directory the command actually ran from — the difference between "minimal read no config" and "minimal read the config one le 8000 vel up". Resolution goes through the same resolver the rest of the CLI loads config with and honors `--repo-dir` identically, so a bundle names the project the command would have acted on. Identity only: name, root, and the config file's relative path. No configuration values enter here — the config itself is collected under the existing redaction policy — and a malformed config is reported as malformed without quoting the line it choked on. Being outside a project is a finding, not an error: the scope records `unknown` with a reason and the entry becomes a manifest skip. `SCHEMA_VERSION` stays at 1; the field is additive and a v1 reader is unaffected. Recorded as R2.11 in the diagnostics spec, which is the authority for bundle contents. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.
Scope: matches the PR description — adds ProjectScope/ProjectIdentity to the manifest, a new crates/minimal/src/diag/project.rs collector wired into cmd_bug, two integration tests, and the R2.11 spec/doc updates. The PR body's account of dropping the decode/profiles half checks out against git log on the touched files; nothing unrelated leaked back in.
Clobber: git log on every touched file shows this stacking cleanly on the prior terminal-capture PR (2593955, 29b4ac6); no revert of unrelated work.
Correctness: one real gap — project.root is documented as an absolute path (manifest.rs:91), but resolve() reaches it via mfile::File::from_dir(repo_dir) without canonicalizing repo_dir first (details in the finding below). Everything else checks out: the ProjectScope/ProjectIdentity API shape matches how #[non_exhaustive] is already used elsewhere in this crate (enum variants stay constructible, the struct gets a new()), the skip-on-no-project path correctly threads through BundleWriter::skip/set_project, the --repo-dir vs. cwd branching mirrors mctx's MFileSearchStrategy::{Override,CurrentDirRecursive} exactly, and the manifest/project/project.json agreement is exercised by both new tests. Did not compile or run the test suite, per the no-build constraint.

Verification log
1. rg for repo_dir canonicalization precedent across crates/minimal/src — exit 0 · self-reported
attach.rs:162 (cwd_host_path), lib.rs:1862 (cmd_activate/init), and task.rs:291 (cmd_task_run) all std::fs::canonicalize the repo_dir/effective path before treating it as an absolute root. crates/minimal/src/diag/project.rs (this diff's new file) has no canonicalize call anywhere.
2. read mfile::File::from_dir/from_dir_recursive and repo_path()/file_path() — exit 0 · self-reported
repo_path()/file_path() derive from mfile_path = dir.join(MFILE_NAME), so the returned path is only absolute if the input dir was absolute. from_dir_recursive(cwd) is always fed an absolute cwd (std::env::current_dir()), but from_dir(repo_dir) is fed the raw --repo-dir value as-is.
3. check GlobalArgs::repo_dir clap definition for path normalization — exit 0 · self-reported
crates/minimal/src/lib.rs:399-401 defines repo_dir as a bare Option clap arg (
-C/--repo-dir) with no value_parser; clap does not normalize it to an absolute path before GlobalArgs is built.
4. confirm ProjectIdentity::root's documented contract — exit 0 · self-reported
crates/diagnostics/src/manifest.rs:91 documents
rootas "Absolute path of the project root on the producing host." Nothing in the new resolve() path enforces that when the value comes from --repo-dir.
5. check whether the new bug.rs tests exercise a relative repo_dir — exit 0 · self-reported
Both new tests (the_bundle_names_the_project_it_came_from, a_bundle_collected_outside_a_project_says_so) pass tempfile::TempDir::path(), which is always absolute, so the relative --repo-dir case is untested and wouldn't be caught by CI.

…rker Two review findings on the project-scope collector. `ProjectIdentity::root` is documented as an absolute path on the producing host, but `resolve` passed `--repo-dir` into `mfile::File::from_dir` verbatim, so `min bug --repo-dir ../other-checkout` wrote a relative path into both `manifest.json` and `project/project.json` — meaningless to a reader on another machine. The cwd could be relative too: `resolve_paths` falls back to `"."` when `current_dir()` fails. Both are canonicalized now, which is the step `attach.rs`, `cmd_activate`, and `cmd_task_run` already take before treating a `--repo-dir` as a root. A path that cannot be resolved is left as typed, so the "no project here" finding still names what the user asked for. `resolve` is also a synchronous filesystem walk — a `std::fs::read` per ancestor — and it ran before the collector's first `await`, so a wedged filesystem would block the worker and outlast the `collect_step!` timeout that exists to catch exactly that. It now runs on a blocking thread, the discipline `diagnostics::listing` and `diagnostics::kmsg` document and keep. `the_recorded_project_root_is_resolved_not_echoed` covers the first: it fails on the old code with a root of `<project>/.minimal/..`. Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.
Scope: Matches the stated intent exactly — adds project attribution (manifest.json's project field plus project/project.json) with no unrelated changes. The PR body's own diff history (dropping the profiles-based project/profiles.json half) is reflected accurately in the current diff.
Clobber: None. Builds cleanly on the prior terminal-capture PR; no reverted work.
Correctness: Traced resolve()/absolute() in crates/minimal/src/diag/project.rs against mfile::File::from_dir/from_dir_recursive and repo_path()/file_path()'s layout logic — the root/config path derivation is correct for both minimal.toml and .minimal/minimal.toml layouts, matching the new tests. Both issues raised by CodeRabbit in threads.json (blocking filesystem calls off the async worker, and canonicalizing --repo-dir before recording it as ProjectIdentity::root) are already fixed in this exact head commit (0e8a04f3) — verified spawn_blocking wraps resolve/canonicalize, and absolute() canonicalizes both --repo-dir and cwd before they reach mfile::File::from_dir. Confirmed the canonicalization discipline matches the three sibling call sites the PR cites (attach.rs::cwd_host_path, and by extension cmd_activate/cmd_task_run). Manifest's new required project field is additive-safe: the type is serialize-only, and no consumer strictly deserializes it against a schema. Nothing here needed a build to confirm.
No findings to report.
What ran
5 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.
Verification log
1. Read crates/minimal/src/diag/project.rs in full against manifest.rs/bundle.rs changes — exit 0 · self-reported
resolve()/absolute() canonicalize before mfile::File::from_dir(_recursive), matching the fixes already made in this same head commit; ProjectScope/ProjectIdentity plumbing into BundleWriter::create/stream/finish is consistent, no duplicate or missing initialization.
2. Trace mfile::File::from_dir/from_dir_recursive and repo_path()/file_path() layout logic — exit 0 · self-reported
Confirmed strip_prefix(root) on file_path() correctly yields 'minimal.toml' or '.minimal/minimal.toml' for both Layout::Root and Layout::DotMinimal, matching the new tests' expectations.
3. Compare project.rs's repo_dir resolution against MFileSearchStrategy (crates/mctx/src/mfile_search_strategy.rs) and the canonicalizing call sites it claims to mirror (attach.rs:155-167) — exit 0 · self-reported
Override strategy uses from_dir(path) uncanonicalized in mctx, but project.rs deliberately canonicalizes first (per PR body/thread fix) to satisfy ProjectIdentity::root's 'absolute path' contract; behavior on which file is found is unaffected since '..' resolves the same at the syscall level. Matches the discipline in attach.rs/cmd_activate/cmd_task_run as claimed.
4. Check whether Manifest's new required project field breaks any consumer that deserializes manifest.json (e.g. guest bundle merge in minimald/src/diag.rs, minimal/src/diag/guest.rs) — exit 0 · self-reported
Manifest only derives Serialize (never Deserialize) and existing consumers only check for manifest.json's presence or parse it as generic serde_json Value in tests; no strict-schema consumer exists, so no backward-compatibility break.
5. git log -10 on touched files to check for reverted/clobbered recent work — exit 0 · self-reported
Head commit 0e8a04f is a direct, additive follow-up to f3b32b2 on this same feature branch; no unrelated recent commits are reverted or overwritten.

R2.11 says a malformed config is reported as malformed without quoting the
line it choked on, and `resolve` drops the parse error to honor it — but
nothing held that in place. It is a redaction claim, not a cosmetic one: a
TOML error prints the offending line verbatim, and that line is the user's
config. Put a secret on it and the manifest header carries the secret into
every bundle the user shares, outside every policy the collectors apply and
in the one file a reader is guaranteed to open.
`a_malformed_config_is_reported_without_quoting_it` plants a canary on the
rejected line and asserts no file in the bundle contains it. Restoring the
`{e}` to that arm fails it, on `manifest.json`.
Also pins the values `the_bundle_names_the_project_it_came_from` had only
checked for agreement: the root, the config's relative path, and
`invoked_from`. Two outputs agreeing on the same wrong directory was passing.

Both nitpicks from the CodeRabbit review body were valid and are fixed in "Add proof for malformed configuration reporting" — this one mattered more than "nitpick" suggests. R2.11 says a malformed config is reported without quoting the line it choked on, and
"Assert the actual project values" — correct, the test was checking that two outputs agreed, which two consistently wrong values also satisfy. It now pins Spec proof artifacts under R2.11 updated for both. |

Scope: matches the stated intent exactly — adds ProjectScope/ProjectIdentity to the diagnostics manifest, a new minimal::diag::project collector, tests, docs, and spec (R2.11). The PR body itself documents that the originally-included decode/profiles half (+262 lines, a FORMAT_VERSION bump) was dropped as dead weight once profiles was removed elsewhere in the tree; the diff here reflects that — no leftover decode/profiles touches.
Clobber: none. git log on every touched file shows a clean, purpose-built commit sequence (feat → fix → test) with no reverted or overwritten unrelated work.
Correctness: verified the two structural claims that matter most here against the actual code rather than the PR prose: (1) resolve()'s use of mfile::File::from_dir vs from_dir_recursive exactly mirrors how the rest of the CLI (MFileSearchStrategy in crates/mctx) treats --repo-dir vs. no override; (2) the canonicalize-before-treating-as-a-root discipline matches the established pattern in attach.rs, task.rs, and lib.rs::build_config. Both previously-raised threads (relative --repo-dir echoed into root; synchronous resolution running before the collector's first await) are fixed in this revision exactly as the PR body describes, and the fix is exercised by the_recorded_project_root_is_resolved_not_echoed. The malformed-config path correctly avoids echoing the TOML parser's error text (which would carry the offending line) and the new test plants a canary secret to prove it doesn't leak anywhere in the bundle. Nothing here needed a build to check — this was all traceable through rg/reading the referenced source.
No findings to report.

Verification log
1. rg for MFileSearchStrategy / from_dir vs from_dir_recursive in mctx to confirm --repo-dir semantics — exit 0 · self-reported
crates/mctx/src/mfile_search_strategy.rs shows Override(path) -> mfile::File::from_dir (no upward search) and CurrentDirRecursive -> from_dir_recursive. project.rs's resolve() mirrors this exactly: from_dir when repo_dir is Some, from_dir_recursive when None. The PR's claim of honoring --repo-dir identically to the rest of the CLI holds.
2. Compare canonicalize discipline in project.rs::absolute() against attach.rs::cwd_host_path, task.rs::cmd_task_run, lib.rs::build_config — exit 0 · self-reported
All three existing call sites canonicalize a --repo-dir/cwd path before treating it as a project root/path. project.rs's absolute() (std::fs::canonicalize with a typed-path fallback) follows the same discipline described in the PR body, and matches the pattern already established elsewhere in crates/minimal/src.
3. Read mfile::File::repo_path()/file_path() to confirm Layout::Root vs Layout::DotMinimal resolve to the correct root/config-relative-path pair used by project.rs's resolve() — exit 0 · self-reported
repo_path() returns dir_path() for Layout::Root and dir_path().parent() for Layout::DotMinimal, matching project.rs's config.strip_prefix(root) computation of a root-relative config path for both layouts.
4. git log --oneline -10 on the touched diagnostics/spec files to check for a silent revert of recent work — exit 0 · self-reported
History is exactly this PR's own sequence (feat -> fix -> test), landing cleanly after the prior profiles-removal commits. No clobber of unrelated recent work.
5. Cross-check threads.json against the diff to confirm both prior review findings (unresolved canonicalization, resolve() on the async worker) are actually fixed in this revision — exit 0 · self-reported
Both threads are marked resolved; the diff's project.rs now canonicalizes both cwd and repo_dir via absolute() and runs resolve()/absolute() inside tokio::task::spawn_blocking, matching the fixes described in the PR body's 0e8a04f section.

Closes: #1211
Summary
Bundles could not be attributed to the project they came from, so reports got
misattributed. Every other collector describes a machine, and a machine hosts many
projects — two bundles taken on one host from two checkouts read identically.
manifest.jsonnow carries aprojectfield andproject/project.jsonrepeats it,alongside the directory the command actually ran from. That last field is the difference

goes through the same resolver the rest of the CLI loads config with and honors
--repo-diridentically, so a bundle names the project the command would have acted on.Identity only — name, root, and the config file's relative path. No configuration values
enter here; the config itself is collected under the existing R2.5 redaction policy, and a

Recorded as R2.11 in the diagnostics spec, which is the authority for bundle contents.

decodechange (+262 lines) and with it theFORMAT_VERSION1→2 bump, which would have invalidated every cached upstream layerrepo-wide — a real cost paid for permanently empty output. It also drops the
common,decode, andstdlibdependencies added to theminimalcrate, and the private stdlibstaging that existed only to evaluate profile bodies.
The leftover
profiles/scan indecode/src/load.rs:279and theNoSuchProfile/ConflictingProfilevariants ingraph/src/lib.rsare scaffolding from the Aug 6 removal.Out of scope here; worth a separate cleanup.
Testing
cargo test -p diagnosticsandcargo test -p minimal --test bug --libon Linux x86_64:Four tests cover R2.11: the manifest scope and
project/project.jsonagree and name theright directory; being outside a project is an
unknownscope with a reason plus a recordedskip, never a silent absence; the root is resolved against the filesystem rather than taken
verbatim from
--repo-dir; and a secret planted on the line the TOML parser rejects reachesno file in the bundle. The last two were confirmed to fail against the code they guard.
Also clean:
cargo fmt --check,cargo clippy -p diagnostics -p minimal --all-targets -- -D warnings.Not run locally: the VM/e2e recipes — this change touches no daemon or VM path. CI ran them
anyway; all five lane aggregators are green on
