SAM™ is a cross-platform desktop application to perform techno-economic analysis of renewable energy systems.

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EmTMyJUjas for a webinar overview of the SAM open source project.

If you are new to SAM, the NREL SAM team recommends downloading the desktop application, working through an example system aligned with your research interests, and then start investigating the source code. Extensive documentation of the model and a support forum are available on the website https://sam.nrel.gov/.

If you are NREL staff, please reach out to Janine Keith or Brian Mirletz to talk about how you want to use SAM in your project. We've found that getting connected early will save you and your project time and money. We can also connect you to other groups at NREL that have done similar work with SAM.

Finally, even if you don't want help, we would love to hear about significant efforts using the SAM source code! Feel free to let us know so we can share the great work you are doing with our funders.
