- Applications for Doors Open UNLOCKED: Creating sound worlds with Ableton are now open.
Doors Open, Resident Advisor's not-for-profit job forum, has teamed up with Ableton on a six-part online workshop series, continuing on from last year's collaboration which aimed to provide a foundational overview of roles within music tech for an international online audience.
UNLOCKED will run every Tuesday from February 24th to March 31st, and features three guest speakers who are each hosting two sessions. The series is designed for all experience levels, from those who've created their first sketch in DAW to experienced producers looking to build upon their skills.
The series will kick off with two sessions on developing sound design techniques via Ableton Live, followed by two workshops on film scoring. The programme will be rounded off by two more sessions on creating sound worlds for video games. Each segment will feature practical exercises to develop creative and technical methods for musical sound design in Ableton Live, as well as discussions around practical applications and career pathways.
The award-winning composer Sam Slater has been confirmed for the speaker lineup, along with Moscow-born sound designer A.Fruit and artist Mel Uye-Parker. The sessions will be hosted by multidisciplinary creative Katarina Holmberg and RA's Iona Thomas, who oversees Doors Open CIC.
The workshops are free to attend, and applications are open until January 27th. The primary aim of UNLOCKED: Careers is to address the lack of diversity within the music industry. We will prioritise applications from FLINTA, POC and LGBTQIA+ communities, as well as people with visible and non-visible disabilities, people from lower-income households, and those facing any other barriers to accessing a career in music. Places are limited to ensure a quality experience, encourage interactive engagement and facilitate peer networking.
