Doors Open UNLOCKED: Empowering the future of music tech with Ableton is designed to demystify the hidden roles in the music tech industry and foster a diverse peer network. The four-part series aims to lower barriers, create learning opportunities and help people explore different pathways in the music industry.
The programme is aimed at those with little to no experience of working in music tech, who have a pre-existing enthusiasm for music production and are seeking the foundational knowledge, inspiration and confidence required to thrive in this field. It's geared towards sharing knowledge, breaking down different roles in the industry and offering insights into the various career possibilities available.
Successful applicants will be given the chance to hear from experienced professionals, ask questions and gain a clearer understanding of what's possible in the music tech sphere. The workshops are free to attend, and for people aged 18 and above, there is no upper age limit. Limited spots are available.
Launching next month, UNLOCKED will take place across four Wednesdays in April, from 6.30 PM to 8.30 PM BST. The programme will cover audio mastering with engineer Conor Dalton (9th), composition with singer and composer Mentrix (16th), live show production with guitarist and producer Remi Lauw (23rd) and next steps with artist Katarina Holmberg, AKA Tigerlight (30th). All sessions are hosted by Katarina Holmberg and Create Define Release founder Tony Nwachukwu, who also sits on Resident Advisor's Community Board.
Dalton boasts 15 years of audio mastering experience, and runs his own company, Glowcast Audio Mastering. According to Muso.AI statistics, he is within the top 1 percent of mastering engineers worldwide in terms of streams and awards. Mentrix is an Iran-born, Berlin-based artist who also runs the female-led record label House Of Strength. Lauw is the producer and guitarist of R&B group Secret Rendezvous. He has also played session guitar with Dam Swindle, Mad Professor and others. Tigerlight is a multidisciplinary artist who has played everywhere from Glastonbury and Boomtown to Secret Garden Party and Lovebox.
The primary aim of the programme is to address the lack of diversity within the music industry. For this reason, we will prioritise applications from FLINTA, POC and LGTBQIA+ communities, and people with visible and non-visible disabilities and/or from lower-income households.
