Want to write for RA? Here's how you can get in touch.
As of April, 2025, we are open to pitches for long-form features, video essays, reported news, opinion pieces, release reviews and more—you'll find a detailed breakdown below. We are always working to correct the historical imbalance of the site, so we especially want to use our reach and resources to empower Black artists and writers, as well as other minority groups who have been underrepresented on RA in the past.
How to get in touch
If it's your first time pitching to RA, introduce yourself and share some examples of past work. Pitches should be clear and concise, tailored to the editor/section and briefly explain why you are the right person for the story.
We receive a high volume of pitches, but our editors will endeavour to provide you with feedback. It's worth remembering that, beyond the quality of the idea, there are many reasons why a pitch might not be the right fit, so don't be disheartened.

Reviews
During a time in which everyone has access to the same music, the job of our reviews section is to look beyond what lands in our inbox to uncover the answer to the golden question: What makes this project worth talking about? Our reviews section aims to cover a broad range of electronic music. We're primarily looking for pitches on exceptional independent music—especially projects made by marginalised and overlooked communities—that exist beyond the normal PR cycle. We are also interested in reading your critical opinions on bigger releases in the spotlight. Your pitch should tell us which record/s you'd like to write about, why, and what you think about them.
News
Our global news desk pursues tips from all around the world—we're interested in leads that touch on electronic music, club culture, technology, business, grassroots activism and the intersections between.
We accept both story pitches and private news tips on a rolling basis. Please email [email protected] or [email protected] with any relevant pitches or tips you think warrant RA's coverage.

Features
Features pitches should be named as such in the subject of your email. Explain your idea in a few sentences, and highlight why this particular topic is timely and why it would appeal to RA's global audience. We're interested in the following feature formats:
Long-form features: Multi-voice stories about key movements, sounds and trends bubbling around the world that help us to further expand our coverage.
Rewind: Want to go long on a retrospective appraisal of resonant tracks, albums or mixes? We're looking for records that have a compelling story to their background.
If there's a timely hook in the form of a key anniversary, even better.
A History Of…: Telling the story of a key genre, sub-genre, label or artist through ten essential tracks. Includes an interview with an expert on the sound–pitches should include one or more suggested specialists that would be a good fit.
We are not currently accepting pitches for single-artist/topic profiles, Breaking Through, Q&As, or photo galleries.
The following series are not available for external pitching, but we will reach out to freelancers who are the right fit: Cover stories, The Art of DJing/Production, festival/event coverage and the RA Podcast.
Films
We're always on the lookout for fresh, thoughtful films that explore electronic music and club culture from unique perspectives. Whether it's documentary, experimental, narrative, or something in between, we’re interested in work that tells untold stories, sparks conversation, or sheds new light on the scenes, sounds, and people shaping the global underground. What are the rates of pay?
Review pay rates will be agreed with writers before work is commissioned. Fees are based on a number of factors, including word count and deadline.
The fees for features will vary depending on a number of factors: the proposed word count, the number of interviews taking place and the complexity of the topic at hand. The fee is always agreed before the writer starts on the project. Any associated travel costs or expenses are paid for by RA.
