✨ [Success Story] SmartCatch, l’histoire d’une innovation née au CNRS Née de la collaboration entre des scientifiques du LAAS-CNRS et médecins de l'IUCT-Oncopole et du CHU de Toulouse, la start-up SmartCatch a transformé une découverte en nanotechnologie en innovation pour l’oncologie. 🏆 Lauréate de #France2030, elle lance désormais l’industrialisation de sa technologie en France. Lets meet SmartCatch 🩸. Cancer detection is evolving and the future lies in the blood. SmartCatch is pioneering a new era of liquid biopsy, making precision oncology accessible to every patient. 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞: SmartCatch are based in Toulouse, France. Founded in September 2016 and born out of a decade of research at the CNRS Laboratory of Analysis and Architecture of Systems (LAAS), SmartCatch was co-founded and is led by Aline Cerf. Their mission says it all: "Make the liquid biopsy of circulating tumor cells accessible to everyone." 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐨: SmartCatch designs innovative micro-capture devices — essentially micro-fishnets that physically capture CTCs from a patient's bloodstream. These devices enable prediction of response, MRD monitoring and pharmaceutical screening, all from a simple blood draw. The technology was developed alongside urologist surgeons at the IUCT-Oncopole. SmartCatch has secured backing from Kurma Partners, a European diagnostics venture capital firm. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Circulating tumor cells hold the molecular fingerprint of a patient's cancer but capturing them reliably has always been the challenge. SmartCatch's physical capture approach offers a more reliable and scalable solution, moving precision medicine from the lab into everyday clinical practice. At SmartCatch, we believe that unlocking the full potential of CTC analysis means aligning liquid biopsy workflows with the standards of digital pathology. 👉 Our X-Tracker® technology isolates circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cancer-associated cells (CACs) based on physical properties such as size and deformability—enabling the capture of highly heterogeneous populations, beyond marker-dependent approaches.
