Ex vivo clinical testing to accelerate drug development

📍 What would  it take to make preclinical safety assessment more predictive of patient outcomes? 📍 👉 At EUROTOX 2026 in Vienna, we presented our poster: “Improving Clinical Translation Through Human Skin-Based New Approach Methodologies” The poster highlights how human ex vivo skin models can help bridge the gap between mechanistic testing and clinical observations by generating human-relevant data earlier in development. Using living human skin tissue, these approaches can support the assessment of: • local tolerability • inflammatory and immune responses • tissue damage • other potential safety liabilities At Genoskin, we develop human ex vivo models and CRO services designed to support more translational toxicology and safety assessment while contributing to efforts to reduce reliance on animal models. 📄 Explore the poster to learn how human skin-based NAMs can strengthen clinical translation and provide deeper insight into human tissue responses: https://lnkd.in/gzPiS-4y #EUROTOX2026 #NAMs #PreclinicalResearch #HumanRelevantResearch #Genoskin

Advancing real-time monitoring in live human tissue A recent publication in Nature Communications demonstrates the potential of a minimally invasive optical probe for real-time, in situ monitoring of metabolites directly within human skin tissue. Using Genoskin’s NativeSkin® ex vivo human skin models, researchers validated the technology’s ability to: 🔹 Monitor ethanol directly in tissue, without extracting interstitial fluid 🔹 Capture rapid concentration changes on sub-minute timescales 🔹 Simultaneously detect ethanol, glucose, and lactate, providing a more comprehensive view of tissue metabolism 🔹 Demonstrate the feasibility of a compact, minimally invasive probe designed for future in vivo monitoring Unlike conventional microdialysis, which relies on fluid extraction and longer sampling intervals, this approach enables high-temporal-resolution measurements while preserving the tissue environment. These findings highlight how human ex vivo skin models can help bridge the gap between innovative sensor technologies and clinical application, providing a relevant platform to validate performance in complex human tissue before moving toward in vivo studies. Congratulations to the Hutter Lab at The University of Texas at Austin. 📖 Read the publication in Nature Communications https://lnkd.in/gqVrSmSN

What makes a mast cell model truly relevant to human therapeutic development? Mast cells are highly influenced by their tissue environment, anatomical location and surrounding cells — making model selection an important consideration when translating research into therapeutic development. In this new opinion article in BioTechniques, our colleagues Nicolas Gaudenzio, and Chenyan Wu, share their perspectives on: • How mast cell phenotype varies across species, tissues and culture systems • The strengths and limitations of commonly used mast cell models • When human primary cells and tissue-based models add value • Why tissue context matters for understanding therapeutic responses • How to build a fit-for-purpose progression from discovery to translational research The article also explores mast cell depletion strategies and the importance of studying these mechanisms within a relevant human tissue environment. Proud to see the expertise of our scientific team contributing to the broader conversation around human-relevant mast cell research and therapeutic development. 📖 Read the full article in BioTechniques: “Rethinking mast cell research: choosing the right model for human therapeutic development” https://lnkd.in/ehQZB-Y8

September 14 is World Atopic Eczema Day. For millions of people, atopic eczema is not simply a skin condition. It can affect comfort, sleep, confidence and quality of life, often with an impact that extends well beyond what is visible. Progress starts with better understanding. And better understanding starts with research. At Genoskin, we support scientists working to advance atopic eczema research by providing human skin models designed to generate more relevant insights into disease mechanisms and potential treatments. Our goal is to help researchers go further, from understanding the biology of the disease to exploring new therapeutic approaches. On World Atopic Eczema Day, we stand alongside patients, families, healthcare professionals and researchers working toward better solutions for people living with atopic eczema. Supporting research today can help shape better care tomorrow. #WorldAtopicEczemaDay #SkinResearch #HumanSkinModels
