Badly damaged freezer, false delivery record and absolutely shocking service
I ordered a freezer from Appliances Direct, which was delivered last Friday (17 July 2026). On arrival, it was badly damaged in three separate places: the back, left-hand side and right-hand side.
Fortunately, I had paid extra for the freezer to be unpacked and placed in the room. Otherwise, the delivery team might simply have left it packaged, leaving me to discover the extensive damage afterwards.
The delivery team suggested that I keep the damaged freezer and arrange for it to be replaced later so that I could have use of it (I had bought it as additional freezer space for a function I am having this coming weekend).
I made it very clear that I would not accept a badly damaged appliance and asked them to take it away. I did not sign for or accept the delivery. The team took photographs, as did I, and told me they would report the issue immediately to Appliances Direct.
I also contacted Appliances Direct myself straight away and submitted photographs and all the requested information through their online portal. I was told I would receive a response within 24 hours. I did not.
When I telephoned Appliances Direct on Monday morning, I was told that the delivery company, Arrow XL, had recorded the freezer as having been delivered successfully. This was completely untrue. I had refused the delivery, had not signed for it, and the freezer had been taken away by the delivery team.
Appliances Direct then told me that I should email Arrow XL myself. I sent emails to two separate addresses: an address from which I had previously received correspondence from Arrow XL, and the customer service address advertised on its website. Both emails came back as undeliverable.
It is absolutely shocking that a delivery company working for such a well-known retailer apparently cannot even provide customers with a functioning customer service email address.
It is now Wednesday, and I have still received no meaningful update or resolution. Appliances Direct charges customers for delivery, yet uses a delivery company with an extraordinarily poor public review rating (Their Google Reviews score is a shocking 1.6!).
Customers should not have to spend days chasing a retailer and its courier because a refused and badly damaged appliance has been incorrectly recorded as successfully delivered.
I am extremely unhappy with both the condition in which the freezer arrived and the way Appliances Direct has handled the matter since. I certainly will not purchase from Appliances Direct again.
