First off, hello and welcome!
For those unaware, Wattpad's latest terms-of-service update adds a vague rule limiting sexual content to what "supports the story," which a lot of writers are reading as a quiet ban on porn-without-plot. Whatever you make of the change, people are leaving, and a good number of you have ended up here on recommendations from AO3 users. Welcome.
Before you get settled, a few things:
We Don't Ban Darkfic
Some of the posts sending people our way describe fanfiction.lol as "AO3, but it censors darkships" or "the censored site you're looking for." That's not accurate and I wanted to set the record straight.
fanfiction.lol does not inherently ban darkfic. We don't have a list of forbidden tropes, ships, or themes, and we don't police content because it makes other people uncomfortable. If it's legal to publish under Canadian law (where this archive is hosted) you can post it here. Noncon, dubcon, incest, PWP, whatever you're writing. We think fic writers should be able to write what they want to write. If a piece isn't for you, the tags and warnings exist so you can skip it.
Our Actual Restrictions
Our limits come from Canadian law, not editorial taste. That covers a specific set of categories laid out in our content policy. It exists because we have to operate within the law.
