Why does the financial year start from april?not match the calendar year?

edit

I want to know that why financial year starts from month of april? not from the January? Is there any link between this and starting of acadermic year?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shivaaprs (talkcontribs) 14:18, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Firstly, why? There is no particular reason they should coincide.
Secondly, it is impractical to have the fiscal year change-over in the middle of summer, or during major religious festivals, when people tend to be on holiday. (Especially, when parliament or whatever ruling body is on holiday.)
And remember that some countries aren't in the northern hemisphere. Martin Kealey (talk) 04:48, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ethiopia FY

edit

Ethiopia's FY is listed as only 9 months: 11 September to June. However, Economy of Ethiopia (infobox) states that it is 8-7 July. Wikiain (talk) 16:30, 16 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

The date in this page was the incorrect one. I have updated it with CIA factbook data. – Ammarpad (talk) 16:48, 16 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Should Business and Organizations be a higher level element?

edit

As of this writing, the ToC reads as:

  • 3. Operation in various countries/region
    • 3.1. Afghanistan
    • 3.49. United Kingdom
    • 3.50. United States
      • 3.50.1. Federal government
      • 3.50.2. State governments
    • 3.51. Vietnam
      • 3.51.1. Businesses and organizations
  • 4. See also

But this implies to me that "Businesses and Organizations" are specifically those operating in Vietnam, which I don't believe is the case. Should "Businesses and Operations" be a top level item? Presumably Item 4, moving 'See also' to Item 5?

Alternatively, I also wonder if that "Businesses and Organizations" is only for US companies, so perhaps it should be 3.50.3?

Redundancy

edit

Is it necessary to have one-line subsections for each of the countries that has a fiscal year corresponding to the calendar year, especially when that information is already shown in the table? The sections on countries like the US, the UK, India, and Australia, where there's a bit of nuance and history, are obviously informative and helpful. 159.196.229.87 (talk) 15:01, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
