[edit]From Magadhi Prakrit 𑀅𑀬𑁆𑀬 (ayya), from Sanskrit अद्य (adya, “today”). Compare Assamese আজি (azi), Bengali আজ (aj), Hindustani आज / آج (āj). Doublet of ꠅꠁꠖ꠆ꠖ (oiddo).
