This was the worst agency experience I have ever had.
I spent over $7,000 with MarkaWorks for branding, packaging, 3D renders, and a Shopify website. The project became a constant cycle of changing timelines, changing payment conditions, and repeated promises that were not honored.
The proposal estimated 38 days, yet the project extended far beyond that. Milestones were marked as complete while major deliverables were still unfinished, and the website remained under development.
I was never given a proper opportunity to review and approve my logo, brand identity, packaging, or other key deliverables before being asked to make almost the entire payment. Most communication happened through WhatsApp, where I received assurances that later changed.
One incident completely destroyed my trust. By that point, I had already paid almost the entire contract, with only about $700 remaining. I urgently needed the packaging dielines for my manufacturer, so I asked whether they would release them if I released the payment they had just requested. They confirmed they would. Relying on that promise, I released the payment. Only afterward, they changed their position and told me I first had to pay the remaining $700 before they would release the same dielines they had promised to send.
What made this even more concerning was that they were simultaneously demanding final payment while confirming that the Shopify website was still being developed. In other words, they were asking me to make the final payment before the entire contracted project had been completed.
I also found myself doing much of the creative direction myself. I developed the concepts, color palette, and visual direction because I did not feel the project was receiving the level of creativity, strategy, or attention I expected from a professional branding agency.
Overall, this project caused unnecessary delays, stress, and uncertainty. My advice to future clients is to insist on regular design reviews, written milestone deliverables, and complete clarity about exactly what will be delivered before releasing payments.
