benefits of bus: bus :>
downsides of bus: trafic :<
@mynotaurus fortunately when there's enough bus (and public transport in general) traffic tends to get better
@njion @mynotaurus problem with bus is cars
@vi @njion @mynotaurus impressive…
@vi @yassie_j @mynotaurus I absolutely adore trams. They're my preferred way of getting around the city when cycling isn't a sane option (like on really cold/rainy days)
Which of these is NOT a 00s/10s pop-punk/emo/scene song? #poll
Please share!!

@vi RIGHT???
it's a good exercise to imagine the kind of life you want as a goal planning thing but all I can think of is like making little games on a MATE desktop computer
@vi well then i need a desktop computer to run MATE on. do you think anyone in Montreal has a spare thinkcentre
idk how it'll go + I'm not the biggest fan of their work, but its still an open source position so better than working for proprietary ig

@vi@downbad.fr sucks! Getting on the bus anyway. All mass transit systems are insufferable. I empathize.
its mainly that it'll fuck up my sleep schedule, and having to be on a bus for 6 hours for a 20 mins consultation
@vi@downbad.fr I just meant that the polish and comfort of a bus for three hours isn't as nice as car. It will get you there but there are pros and cons to both. Largely depends where you're at.. my point was that all mass transit could be drastically better.. Anyway, my sleep schedule is screwed so I never notice when I have to do something.. I go without sleep if I have to.
it sure could be wayyyy better, especially for its price, but its all i got for now
@vi@downbad.fr I know.. I wish it was a better transit system for you though. We don't have a license. But we sometimes drive. It not our car though. I sympathize with you about tourettes. I worry about sneezing when driving.. so I understand I guess a little..
there's something fun about seeing the different ways people try to spell my new name
like i settled on "kira" without thinking about it & it's definitely the canon spelling but i just got food & they spelled it "kyra" and im like, huh!
@vi oh no T_T i got "kiran" once and i was like uhhh no kira!!!! k i r a!!!
@kirakira Well, uh... do you actually prefer it pronounced "kee-ra" or "kye-ra"?
(I was assuming the former, admittedly.)
Spelling with y* would be a pretty solid way to get most people to assume the latter, spelling with i will make most Americans default to the latter and rest of the world vary.
(Also, there's at least one other person with a sizeable following who has chosen Kyra spelled with an y for their new name a few years ago...)
[* no, brain, I didn't mean "spellyng" when I wrote that]
@Tvorsk it's "kee-ra"! i definitely think if it were spelled kyra people would read it that way, maybe kyra can be on deck if i need an alter-ego name
@kirakira Ah, the myrror unyverse evyl kyra?
(And whew about guessing the "kee" preference right... I mean, it seemed basically guaranteed it was the case, but I'm a worryfox...)
@kirakira people usually don't spell the given name i've had my whole life correctly either
i change my layout to azerty when leaving it unattended
we are not the same
the world doesn't suddenly shift, it's always shifting ...
@vi i'm obsessed with 'duration' as a concept lately ... all in motion ... undepictable
"i chose this db because its fast and scallable"bitch WHAT
finds out it runs on java
"oh its java thats why its slow"
h-how does one make friends? ← Alba (has 4 girlfriends)
@mildsunrise bah who needs friends when you can just accumulate more girlfriends
@spinach oh but "how to make friends" includes girlfriends, i have no idea how i got to know them and such
@spinach like idk i see a cute girl and i go and then somehow The Thing happens(?)
@mildsunrise
Step 1: See cute girl
Step 2: Act shy and embarrassed and flirtatious
Step 3: ???????
Step 4: New girlfriend
@spinach YES that's exactly how it feels
(except for the being flirtatious part, my self esteem isn't up to the task)
@mildsunrise how does one make girlfriends? (Mia, has hundreds of friends)
@MiaWinter show me your secrets
(I always assume everyone hates me until proven otherwise)
@mildsunrise I talk to people and I hug people a lot
I never lie or deceive
I am always open and forthcoming, to a fault sometimes
I talk.... a lot
@MiaWinter awwww, cute i'm always afraid of talking too much, and it's kinda hard for me to be forthcoming... i hope people see me as open to things, at least
@mildsunrise fun fact: most people perceive me as scary and/or intimidating when they first meet me
I think it's because they subconsciously notice that I can see into their soul
.. most realize quickly I don't have a single shred of evil inside of me and never abuse that power so they come around :3
@MiaWinter i can certainly understand you being perceived as intimidating at first
@MiaWinter @mildsunrise i've got both of you beat, i don't know how to get either!
@aronia @mildsunrise you got me tho
@vi yes! I'm not saying I don't have friends, just that I don't know how they're made it's a mystery for me
@mildsunrise Just be open and true to yourself, and then find people who like the person you are. It helps that you're an amazing person, so no surprise that you have 4 GFs
@AliciaBytes awwww, you're so kind
It's so hot today
good meowning, i feel like garbidge
@aronia come nap me 🐾💕
@vi pas de média :(
posting it from a server that works (@mildsunrise it was this)
@violets hey, it's very nice i don't know what it is but it sparks brain
would you use a teleporter even if it was a murdering cloning machine
when i write c++ i usually try to maintain good compile times
and now there's just a single file left that disregards that, and it takes twice as long to build that one file than it is to build the rest of the project
@vi the <type_traits> header itself is actually pretty light all things considered
<chrono>, <filesystem>, <memory>, anything to do with streams, anything to do with multithreading are pretty heavy on the other hand
for this project i tried writing a custom vector, hashmap and unique_ptr implementations (vector because i wanted to have an optional small buffer optimization, hashmap because unordered_map is way too slow by default)
this is probably overkill though, but if you avoid transitively including <iterator> you can save 50-100 ms
instead of iostreams consider using fmtlib, it's great https://vitaut.net/posts/2024/faster-cpp-compile-times/
@vi also c++20 and requires is so much better for compile times than doing SFINAE shit
but still, it's better to measure this kind of stuff anyway
@pierogiburo ah there's your mistake see, we should optimise for shorter periods of writing code interspersed by *longer* compile times, so as to increase the downtime available for doing literally anything else
how it is sometimes
@pierogiburo he/they to she/they communication
@pierogiburo the urge to start another ":3" train right here and now
