We built moonshots. For Mother Nature. With 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 1 — 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝, we set a new standard for deforestation monitoring, alerting and enforcement - pairing satellite intelligence with the people who can act - helping Indigenous communities and park rangers protect vast areas of tropical forest. We've already deployed it across 36 million hectares. With 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 2 — 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐩, we brought together people who rarely sit at the same table: Indigenous leaders, law enforcement, scientists, entrepreneurs, technologists, investors and philanthropists. Because closing the gap between us was always the point. ;) The result: a series of moonshots addressing some of the biggest systemic gaps in protecting our planet. Now we are building the next one. 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 3: 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞. Illegal deforestation. Mining. Fishing. Logging. Wildlife trafficking. Environmental crime generates over $280 billion/year, yet the institutions fighting it often work with fragmented data, disconnected systems & limited infrastructure. Satellite alerts, field intelligence, government records, financial data and open-source intelligence exist - but they rarely come together in a way that lets investigators move from a signal → to intelligence → to an evidence-backed case → to enforcement. We want to change that. Mission 3 will build a secure environmental crime intelligence platform for governments, prosecutors, Indigenous organizations, NGOs and enforcement agencies, connecting: 🛰️ Satellite & geospatial intelligence 🔎 Open-source & field intelligence 🏛️ Government & enforcement records 🌳 Biodiversity & land-use data 💰 Financial, corporate & supply-chain data The challenge: combining AI, geospatial tech, data infrastructure & great workflow design into something investigators can trust & use. And for that, we're looking for our 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐓𝐎 - someone who wants to build this from zero. You'll define the architecture, build the MVP hands-on, work directly with leading enforcement and intelligence organizations, recruit the first team, and help strengthen the global response. We want deep technical judgment across AI, data-intensive systems and complex software design - ideally with experience in geospatial intelligence, investigative tech, data platforms, national security or financial crime. Lawrence Leuschner 공유함What happens when you bring together 90 of the most committed, influential, and experienced leaders in nature into one room to build systemic and planetary solutions? 🌍 ⭐ Following the launch of Mission 1 "The Shield", Capacity.eco officially launched Moonshot Mission 2: "Closing the Gap" last week. At the Enea Tree Museum outside of Zürich, we convened some of the world's foremost nature scientists, financiers, technologists, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, Indigenous leaders, and government decision-makers — united around one goal: designing rapid Moonshot Prototypes that move the needle on nature protection across 4 critical gap areas of Finance, Enforcement, Indigenous, and Narrative. We are honoured to have our supporter Prince Max von Liechtenstein open the stage for what proved to be two days of ambition and collaboration. The ambition was to build Conservation 2.0 with the speed and urgency the planet actually demands, before tipping points become irreversible. A conviction powerfully embodied by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Prof. Carlos A. Nobre, who was also in attendance. Having spent the last 40 years of his life fighting for greater protection of the Amazon, his reminder of what is truly at stake left the room deeply moved. 🚀 Over weeks of remote knowledge sharing and two facilitated days, we challenged the room to design moonshots from the ground up. What emerged were 8 moonshots now in motion, each owned by the working groups that shaped them: from dismantling the $280B environmental crime economy, to putting financing directly in the hands of Indigenous communities, to rebuilding humanity’s relationship with the natural world. And throughout it all, one of the biggest innovations was that the frontline Indigenous leaders who didn't just participate, but set the direction for these solutions. We are deeply grateful to every participant for their engagement and dedication across the Summit. We realised that we also closed the gaps between us. Lawrence Leuschner 공유함👉 From vision to reality in 9 months. 🚀 13 million hectares of Indigenous territories are now supported by our end-to-end protection system “The Shield”. 👊 We had a simple idea with Mission 1 Capacity.eco: Protect the treasure of the Amazon by giving indigenous communities the best technology on Earth to defend their land. 💪 So with a small team of incredibly talented entrepreneurs, tech nerds, anthropologists, and Indigenous leaders, we set out to build it. Today I’m proud to say: we made the first big step happen.✅ Capacity’s Mission 1 now supports Indigenous communities in protecting more than 13 million hectares of the Amazon Rainforest. 🌴 That’s equivalent to over three times the size of Switzerland. For years, forest monitoring systems already existed. But they often struggled with: • alerts arriving too late • too many false positives • detection accuracy too low for operational protection So to tackle this, we built a dramatically improved system, driven by AI- and machine-learning, that can analyse multi-source satellite data with 95% accuracy for clear-cutting and 80% for selective logging in near “real-time”. It's fair to say that we built the new benchmark in deforestation detection. 🤘 But detection alone does not protect forests. Mission 1 therefore works as a systematic end-to-end protection infrastructure that: 1. Detects - illegal deforestation using Earth observation, machine learning and AI 2. Alerts - Indigenous territorial defenders in near real time via a co-developed app “Guardiao” with the indigenous 3. Supports verification - through local knowledge and ground intelligence 4. Coordinates enforcement support - with relevant authorities, and 5. Strengthens long-term territorial protection capacity Because protecting global scale biodiversity hotspots will not happen project by project. It requires systematic solutions built for planetary scale. With Mission 1, our Moonshot goal is clear: Build the infrastructure needed to enable protection across ~280 million hectares of the Amazon - spanning all 5000 indigenous communities as well as state and national parks - in what is potentially the largest coordinated land conservation effort in history. That’s more then the size of Western and Northern Europe combined: France, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Norway. This was mine: In 2006 when An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore came out, I was so deeply struck by its message of the climate crisis that I immediately decided to change my personal life and professional career. It led to the creation of rebuy, the circular-economy platform extending the life of used electronics, and later TIER Mobility, Europe’s leading micromobility platform as well as investing with BlueImpact into other climate-tech companies. But the accelerating urgency of the ecological crisis made it clear that I needed to do more. So I founded Capacity.eco this year to stop global biodiversity loss. For our first Mission as a not-for-profit venture builder, we focused on protecting the most biodiverse place on Earth - The Amazon Rainforest. 🦥 If you haven't experienced the Amazon Rainforest yourself, it’s hard to translate its raw beauty into words. It’s even harder to explain the scale and devastation of the destruction. Which is why after my visit to Chief Dada Borari in the Maro lands in November 2024, I knew I needed to bring this visual from the Amazon to the rest of the world. With the help of Open Planet Studios (David Attenborough’s Oceans) and See Through Stories (Netflix's Breaking Boundaries), I’m excited to share THE CHIEFS - a short film showcasing the “why” behind Mission 1 far better than words ever could. It follows one of the Amazon’s great guardians, Chief Alvaro Tukano of the Balaio lands, and his fight on the frontlines to protect our planet’s most vital ecosystem. It’ll be my last public appearance in Germany before I leave Europe to move on to my next chapter (more background and motivation on that to come soon). Thanks so much to Julian Teicke for the invitation - I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to say goodbye in person to Berlin & the community that’s shaped me here. 🔥 Leo Ginsburg and I will talk honestly about transition moments: leaving, beginning again, doubts, convictions, and what it takes to build systems that actually work long-term. I’ll share my real, raw experiences from building rebuy, Blue Impact, TIER Mobility, and now Capacity.eco. Lawrence Leuschner 공유함The future of the climate depends on Indigenous leadership - and at COP30 Brazil last week, we made sure the world heard it. Together with our partners, Capacity.eco ensured that the leaders we work with every day - Chief Álvaro Tukano, Chief Tapi Yawalapiti, Enoque Marubo, Junior Yanomami, Ronnan Kayabi, and Bep-Y Kaiapó - shared their voices across eight major stages including the Oceans House, Swissnex in Brazil Planetary Embassy, Museu das Amazônia (Museu do Amanhã), the World Climate Foundation and the TED Countdown House. Their stories moved people to tears. Their clarity forced rooms to rethink. Their presence brought hope - the grounded, practical, “we are still fighting for the forest everyday” kind of hope. 🌿 Across panels, screenings, and roundtables, they spoke about guardianship, defending land under threat, and the solutions they’re building from the ground up. A huge thank you to every partner who opened their platform to make these conversations impossible to ignore. It sparked real trust, real teamwork, and a kind of community you can’t stage. It was a pleasure to also meet with Cacique Raoni who I met in Berlin just over a year ago and who inspired me to start Capacity. 🌎 Because the future of the climate depends on the forest - and the forest depends on its guardians. COP30 Brazil in Belém is off to a great start, already announcing a major breakthrough for the world’s forests – but the work is far from done. 🌳 During the last days at the Climate Summit, USD 5.5 billion was endorsed by 53 countries for the Tropical Forest Forever Facility - TFFF – a historic step forward in valuing forests for standing rather than extraction. 🌱 For the first time at this scale, funding mechanisms are being structured to ensure a meaningful share – with a mandatory allocation of at least 20% of payments directly towards Indigenous People & Local Communities – recognizing their role as the true stewards of the world’s largest carbon sinks and biodiversity reserves. 🛡️ This moment connects deeply to Capacity.eco’s first Mission: The Shield, which already protects 8 million hectares of Amazon rainforest alongside 6 Indigenous territories leveraging cutting edge AI-enhanced earth observation. The Shield was built on the belief that technology, transparency, and trust can empower Indigenous leadership to protect their land – and this global financing shift is a massive validation of that vision. 🤲 But, the billions pledged are just the beginning – what happens next will define whether these funds truly empower local communities or get lost in bureaucracy. ✈️ I’m now getting ready to head to Belém, where over the next days we’ll bring five of the Amazon’s greatest Indigenous leaders and protectors – Alvaro Tukano, Tapi Yawalapiti, Enoque Marubo, Júnior Yanomami, and Bep-y Kayapó – with us, to ensure their voices get the platform they deserve in this fight for our planet’s future. Capacity.eco Foundation’s first Mission - “The Shield” - is now protecting 8 million hectares of the Amazon Rainforest (that's an area more than double the size of Switzerland). A few months ago, we set out with an ambitious goal: to protect all 280 million hectares of Indigenous land and protected areas across the Amazon to stop the tipping point. To achieve this, we launched our first #MoonshotMission - The Shield - the world’s first end-to-end system for rainforest protection. The Shield combines AI-powered satellite monitoring with real-time alerts to Indigenous communities on the ground whenever illegal deforestation occurs. 🌳Today, we are actively safeguarding 8 million hectares of rainforest alongside 6 Indigenous communities, with plans to expand to 20 million hectares in the next 6 months - bringing us one step closer to our ultimate 280 million hectare goal. ️⭐ We recently also achieved our first major success. The Shield identified a deforestation site in the Xingu Indigenous Park, which turned out to be a decades-long illegal logging invasion. Working alongside Indigenous leaders, we provided satellite evidence and a report containing data gathered by their surveillance team, prompting federal authorities to launch a formal investigation, which is looking very promising. We are now working activerly in cooperation with the Federal Authorities to stop illegal deforestation in our protected zones. 💚 None of this would be possible without our mission-driven team of technologists, conservationists, and Indigenous partners — people who’ve built frontier technologies, collaborated with communities for decades, and act with both speed and heart. Lawrence Leuschner 좋아요 표시함Lawrence Leuschner 좋아요 표시함Two weeks ago I attended the Closing the Gap Summit by Capacity.eco in Switzerland — and I'm still processing how good it was. For one day at the Enea Tree Museum near Zürich, leaders from institutional finance, science, conservation and indigenous communities came together around a single question: how do we actually close the gap between capital and nature? What made it stand out: it didn't end with panel discussions. Our working group launched the Nature Solutions Architecture Hub — a moonshot initiative to direct finance straight to nature solutions — and left the room with concrete 90-day objectives and owners for each workstream. Working alongside Markus Leippold, Torsten Thiele, Dr. Ina Othersen, Oksana Tiedt, Rebecca Berlinger, Alexander Hoffmann, Andrew Patrick White, Ilona Szabó de Carvalho, Martina G., Xenia zu Hohenlohe, Carlos A. Nobre, Dr. Fabian Heilemann, Wes Sechrest and many others was a highlight in itself: rare to find that depth of expertise combined with a real willingness to build together. Thank you Lawrence Leuschner, Cassandra Yip and the entire Capacity team for the invitation and for creating such a thoughtfully designed experience — from the inspiring sessions to the musical finale. I'm looking forward to keeping the momentum and continuing to work on these topics in the weeks ahead.

The summit convened leaders from institutional finance, science, conservation and indigenous communities around one mission: closing the gap between global capital and nature. That mission is exactly why Ridge exists. The world's largest asset class is locked out of capital markets — not because it lacks value, but because it lacks structure. Building the financial infrastructure that changes this is what we do every day. One concrete outcome: Sascha's working group launched the Nature Solutions Architecture Hub — a moonshot initiative to channel finance directly into nature solutions, now moving through a 90-day plan with partners across different industries (Pension Funds, Family offices, Conservationists, Scholars, Entrepreneurs, etc). Ridge is contributing on the systems side, where structuring and infrastructure expertise matter most. Thank you to Lawrence Leuschner, Cassandra Yip and the entire Capacity.eco team for a remarkable convening. We look forward to what comes next.

Under Bolsonaro, the Amazon rainforest is on track to become a desert. Deforestation has accelerated by 88% and, in just his first year in power, wildfires in the area trebled…IT’S TIME TO HOLD ECOLOGICAL CRIMINALS TO ACCOUNT!
I am a boardmember and help AllRise with Fundraising and Strategy, who have filed in October 2021 a complaint at the International Criminal Court (ICC) against President Jair Bolsonaro for his environmental devastation of the Amazon rainforest.
Under Bolsonaro, the Amazon rainforest is on track to become a desert. Deforestation has accelerated by 88% and, in just his first year in power, wildfires in the area trebled.
Bolsonaro’s actions mean damaged parts of the Amazon emit more CO2 than they absorb, with emissions now exceeding the annual carbon output of Italy, France and Spain.
This cannot go on. The consequences will be felt far beyond Brazil, raising the risk of extreme weather around the world.
This move will set a precedent as a “blueprint” for future environment-related prosecutions. The case aims to establish Mass Deforestation as a Crime against Humanity and make it functionally illegal and punishable now. This case is also an attempt to hold the world’s governments to account over inaction on the sharpening climate crisis. And to stop the impunity of those who commit these crimes.
It’s going to be a tough nut to crack, but we have gathered a triple A team including Sir Howard Morrison, the 2011-2021 Judge of the International Criminal Court, and with the initiative led by Johannes Wesemann. -

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐓𝐅𝐅𝐅) is designed as a “payment-for-performance” model that uses agreed satellite monitoring standards and systems to reward tropical forest countries with a continuing source of funding as long as they preserve their forests. While other forest conservation mechanisms such as 𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐃+ and 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐬 focus on rewarding emissions reductions, the 𝐓𝐅𝐅𝐅 takes a different approach. It aims to pay tropical forest countries directly for each hectare of standing forest they maintain, with payments decreasing based on any deforestation or fire-related forest degradation. Unlike most previous international assistance to conserve tropical forests, the TFFF will not be financed by donor grants. Once the facility reaches its $125 billion target (or, likely in the shorter term, a smaller sum), it will be the world’s largest “blended finance” mechanism of its kind, designed to pay eligible, participating tropical forest countries annually for maintaining their deforestation rates below 0.5% per year, as measured by agreed geospatial monitoring standards and systems. #COP30 #Deforestation #ForestMonitoring #Conservation Source: WRI: https://lnkd.in/ewxMWxPw?

I'm really proud to announce that today we launched SCM0011, a groundbreaking methodology designed to transform how global climate finance reaches the people who need it most: smallholder farmers. Smallholders produce a third of the world’s food, protect critical ecosystems, and are on the frontline of climate impacts—yet they remain some of the most excluded actors in carbon markets. SCM0011 changes this. This new methodology introduces: • Dynamic Baselines that reflect real smallholder deforestation pressures • A Livelihood Vulnerability Index to prioritise the most climate-vulnerable communities • A hard-coded 50% revenue-sharing requirement, ensuring farmers receive a fair share of climate finance • High-integrity digital MRV, finally accessible for fragmented, biodiverse landscapes Pilots with Quilombola communities in Brazil are already showing what is possible when ancestral stewardship is recognised, supported, and rewarded. This is more than a technical innovation—it’s a commitment to climate justice, local empowerment, and a future where frontline communities are central to global climate solutions. The methodology is open for public consultation from 17 November to 17 December, and I encourage all partners, experts, and practitioners to contribute. The EU is making a strong push on climate finance. Also adaptation and just-transition support, and this is signaling that funding for climate-vulnerable nations must scale rapidly. At the same time, the UAE is moving from words to action. Since introducing the UAE Consensus at COP28, it has helped mobilise private capital, introduced blended-finance mechanisms, and focused on turning ambitious pledges into real-world delivery. In my work with organisations navigating sustainability, one thing has been consistently clear... Progress isn’t driven by speeches or targets, it is driven by credible capital. When investment meets implementation, things change. Decisions speed up. Projects become possible. Confidence increases. If we're serious about global climate leadership, policy ambition needs financial backbone. Not someday, now. The world doesn’t need more promises. Michael Grunwald, 2025 By Martin Reiter, Rare.inc Grunwald bases his book on a challenge of feeding 10bn people, requiring a 50% increase in agricultural output and as such a lot of land conversion from high carbon (nature) to low carbon (agricultural use) accelerating climate issues. He builds very heavily on the work of Tim Searchinger, particularly in Creating a sustainable food future, World Resources Institute, 2019.
