Ein Jahr lang Telefonate, Mails, Modelle und Simulationen. Seit einem Jahr arbeiten wir mit vielen Partnern intensiv an Partnerschaften zu Grünstromspeichern. Diese Woche mit vielen zum ersten Mal am selben Tisch. Auf der WindEnergy Hamburg haben Dominik B. und ich zum Terra One Dinner eingeladen. Am Tisch: Betreiber und Partner, mit denen wir zum Teil seit über einem Jahr an Grünstromspeichern arbeiten. Was hängen geblieben ist: Eine Batterie stellt man nicht einfach mal neben einen Windpark und hat dann ein lukratives Projekt. Es braucht die richtigen Partner und viel Vertrauen. Eine Grünstrompartnerschaft organisiert man nicht mal kurz per Mail. Man baut sie gemeinsam auf, über viele Monate, mit dem selben Ziel. Dazu gehört dann auch mal ein Glas Wein 🍷 Die Messe hatte auch erstmals eine eigene Energy Storage Area. Gutes Zeichen. Wind und Speicher gehören an denselben NAP. Und zwischendurch auch mal an denselben Tisch. Danke an alle, die da waren!

🌬️ 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴: 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱 + 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 Wind generation is inherently volatile and it doesn’t always align with demand or attractive market prices. Forecast uncertainty and periods of high generation make flexibility increasingly important for wind projects. That’s where battery storage and co-location come in. By combining wind and storage at the same grid connection point, operators can store electricity when conditions are less favorable, shift it to more valuable hours and make better use of existing grid infrastructure. It’s great to see this topic getting more attention at WindEnergy Hamburg 2026: for the first time, the event will feature a dedicated Energy Storage Area. 📊 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 📊 Flexible Connection Agreements (FCAs) can enable earlier grid connections where capacity is constrained. Without consistent and reliable rules, however, they risk undermining market access, project bankability and investment in battery storage projects. Therefore, 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮 𝗢𝗻𝗲 has joined a cross-sector alliance of companies and associations from the energy storage, renewable energy, e-mobility and energy trading industries. Together, we are calling for binding minimum standards for FCAs under Section 17 of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG). The current draft amendment of the EnWG (“Netzpaket”) gives policymakers an opportunity to establish clear and consistent rules across Germany. Other European countries have already shown that fair, investment-friendly FCA frameworks can work. 📃 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼-𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗟 🔋 MiSpeL, short for 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘷𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘯𝘬𝘵𝘦𝘯, aims to change a key principle for co-located battery storage in Germany. Today, BESS co-located with renewable generation face an important limitation: charging the battery with electricity from the grid can put EEG support for stored renewable electricity at risk. ➡️ The BNetzA’s current MiSpeL proposal aims to change this: instead of requiring a strict physical separation of renewable and grid electricity, energy volumes could be allocated through metering and accounting on a 15-minute basis. ➡️ The benefit: more flexibility and more ways to operate the same asset. A co-located BESS could combine renewable market premiums with grid charging and market optimization, potentially enabling more cycles, better utilization and additional revenue opportunities. At the same time, this flexibility comes with additional complexity around metering, balancing and settlement. Importantly, MiSpeL is still a work in progress, not a final regulation, and major questions regarding implementation remain open. The BNetzA is currently working towards the final determination, with the new framework intended to take effect on 1 October 2026.
