To help you stand out from the crowd, we’ve created a range of impressive CV headers to help you capture the attention of employers. With our wide range of CV headers and layouts, you can quickly find the perfect template that suits your preferences. Once you've selected your preferred style, simply input your information into the designated fields and you can move on to your professional profile. It's as easy as that!

Professional profile: Promote your professional story

Your professional profile, which is sometimes known as a professional summary, is an introduction to who you are as a professional. It should be kept brief and convey to employers the unique professional value you offer and why you’re the best candidate for the job role you’re applying for. You might like to mention your motivations for applying for the role, the years of experience you have as a doctor, or any specialisations you have. Professional profiles should be kept brief – if you want to expand on your achievements, career experiences or skills, you can expand on later in the other sections of your CV. Ultimately, the main goal of the professional profile is to capture the attention of prospective employers and motivate them to read more about you. As a doctor, maintaining a professional, polite, and appropriate tone is essential.

We also recommend carefully reviewing the job description and tailoring your CV to the job requirements. Taking the time to familiarise yourself with the requirements outlined in the job description can help you present your medical qualifications and experiences in the most relevant and impactful way. By tailoring your CV to the specific job, you can demonstrate your understanding of the role and increase your chances of making a positive impression on potential employers.

Employment History: Emphasise your employment experiences

The employment history section is the most important section in your CV, so it’s important that you provide details about any previous jobs or internships you have had in this section. Your employment history section provides valuable insights into your professional experience and helps employers understand your career trajectory. You’ll want to list details about your previous jobs and internships, along with the duration of each employment, company names, and your specific responsibilities and roles. To present this information effectively, the reverse chronological format works best. Start with your most recent employment experience and work your way back to less recent positions. Remember, it's important to tailor the language of this section to the language of the job description.

Education: Elaborating on your educational accomplishments

Employers are seeking doctors that are both qualified and educated – so it’s important that you use the education section of your CV to showcase your qualifications to employers effectively. Ultimately, employers place great importance on applicants who possess the necessary credentials in accordance with Irish law. For this reason, you’ll want to include comprehensive details about your undergraduate degree, any internships you have successfully completed, as well as any postgraduate training you have pursued.  Be sure to highlight the specific institutions where you obtained your degrees, the duration of the degree program, and any achievements or specialisations within your studies.

Additionally, any postgraduate training you have undertaken demonstrates a commitment to furthering your medical knowledge and expertise beyond the undergraduate level. For example, if you completed your Master of Medicine (MMed) at University College Cork, you’ll want to list details about your qualifications in this section.

Lastly, you might also like to include any relevant details about awards, accolades or honours you obtained in this section. We’ve got a great example of a doctor’s education section below:

In the employment history section of your CV, it’s important to highlight any relevant skills you possess that effectively demonstrate your capabilities and expertise as a doctor. You can include information about specialized medical procedures you are proficient in, patient care techniques you have mastered, or relevant certifications you have obtained.
