Created by International Telecommunication Union & UNDP just 4 years ago, it's been wonderful to see how quickly Digital@UNGA has grown into a global community centered on action - not just talking about a digital future, but actually building it. More than 100 affiliate sessions will take place across New York and around the world to address topics ranging from AI in education to digital government initiatives, carrying forward the promise of Digital@UNGA - each of us can help make digital a force for empowerment - across countries, communities and generations. https://lnkd.in/erkZnszw Alexander De Croo Haoliang Xu

Doreen Bogdan-Martin reacted on thisDoreen Bogdan-Martin reacted on thisCountries are navigating a world of growing risks and uncertainty. The United Nations is there to help them do that. But countries should not also have to navigate the UN to get that help. That is the idea behind Expertise-on-Demand. As part of UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ UN80 Initiative, International Telecommunication Union and UNDP are co-leading work across the UN system to give countries easier access to the full breadth of expertise we hold. The approach is simple: start with a country’s priorities. Find the best expertise, wherever it sits. Connect the right teams around one coherent response. A shared catalogue already brings together more than 4,000 areas of expertise from across the UN system. This is what practical UN reform should look like: not adding another layer, but making what we already have accessible and work better for countries. Thank you to colleagues across the UN system who are helping turn this idea into action.

The question is no longer whether AI will shape our societies — but who will have a meaningful say in shaping its future. During this United Nations General Assembly week, we are joining our voices to call for an approach to AI grounded in trust, human rights, inclusion and international cooperation. The benefits of AI can be considerable. But they will not be distributed equally by default. Countries and communities need the connectivity, skills, knowledge and institutional capacity to make informed choices about how AI serves their own priorities, languages, cultures and societies. This is where UNESCOO and International Telecommunication Union bring complementary strengths: connecting ethical and human-rights principles with connectivity, capacity development and practical implementation - including through international technical standards that help translate principles into practice. As investment in technology and computational power accelerates, we must invest in human intelligence with the same urgency and determination. The future of AI cannot be shaped by a few. It must be shaped with the people and societies whose lives it will transform. The #TIME100AI Impact Dinner certainly felt like one of them: surrounded by so many inspiring people, each of them approaching AI from very different directions yet many of the conversations circled back to the same idea - that AI's promise is best realized only when its benefits are shared by all of humanity. Being named on TIME's TIME100 AI list this year has been an honor, and one that makes me especially proud of what it represents for International Telecommunication Union. Our work on #AI may often stay behind the scenes, but its impact reaches across borders and transforms lives around the world. And seeing that work reflected on a global stage like this made the recognition all the more meaningful. Between conversations about what is possible and what is at stake, one thing felt clear: the decisions made now will resonate far beyond this moment and impact generations to come. That is why this moment calls for action. The faster AI develops, the more critical it is that we work together to urgently bring in the countries and communities that are being left behind. Its objective is to strengthen cooperation on women’s leadership in digital policymaking and inclusive digital governance Why does this matter? 👉 Only around 1 in 5 ICT ministers and regulators is a woman 👉 Around 280 million fewer women than men are online globally Getting more women connected requires more women at the table - shaping the policies, priorities and digital futures that affect us all. The EU-LAC Network of Women Leaders in Digital Policy is already bringing together women policymakers and experts across Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean - we support the network on behalf of the European Union and Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ). Now, through stronger cooperation with ITU and its Networks of Women, we have an opportunity to take this work even further. Key topics for us this week are closing the usage gap, creating conditions for inclusive AI, and addressing the rising cost of memory components. Mobile connectivity and AI have the potential to transform lives and economies worldwide. But that potential can only be realised if people have affordable access to a capable device, and the skills to use mobile internet with confidence. Looking forward to many more discussions in the week ahead.

The week is off to a strong start, with our Partners for Impact breakfast, a launch event for our new report with the Partnership for Digital Access in Africa, and a panel discussion on AI governance. AI has the potential to be one of the most transformative technologies of our time. But ensuring the benefits are shared will depend on having the right foundations in place – robust digital infrastructure, affordable access to capable devices and the skills to use them, and enabling regulatory frameworks around the world. I look forward to continuing these conversations over the course of the week.

Doreen Bogdan-Martin liked thisDoreen Bogdan-Martin liked thisYesterday’s Digital@UNGA, organized by UNDP and International Telecommunication Union, was a powerful reminder of what should sit at the heart of digital transformation: people. It was a privilege to bring together leaders from government, the UN, business and civil society to consider how we navigate the pace of AI and technological change while keeping people at the centre. I was deeply impressed by Big Ocean. Their performance was remarkable, but so was what they represent: talent and ambition meeting technology that can help make participation more accessible and inclusive. The Digit’all Voices campaign brought that same idea to life in a different way. We heard from people around the world using technology to make a difference in their communities. Different contexts and experiences, but a reminder that digital transformation is already being shaped by people solving problems that matter to them. For those of us working in this space, the responsibility is clear. Our job is not simply to keep pace with technology. It is to help create the conditions for more people to shape where it takes us. At UNDP, we see what that can mean in practice. Our new Turning Digital into Impact: 10 UNDP Country Stories looks at how digital solutions are delivering tangible results across countries, from justice and health to climate, public services and crisis response.
